It’ll get patched, people are flipping out over this stuff. In this day and age, infinites get patched 100% of the time. We get games stupid early before they’re ready, so shit like this pops up unfortunately.

Don’t usually watch these podcasts but I wanted to hear what these guys had to say about gems and SfxT in general. Was pretty interesting hearing what they had to say which was basically assist gems (auto block,auto throw tech) are broken as fuck and need to be banned , with boost gems being ok except that they were nightmares for tournaments. They were also really against dlc gems.
It also seemed to be the concensus between them (Keits, Skisonic and Ultradavid) that SfxT is pretty mediocre and that if the game were to just die off they wouldn’t really care. Ultradavid even flat out stated that KoF13 was the best fighting game out right now lol.
Better question is when will you have time to stop by durham in between your pot-monster carnival on wednesdays and your mugen night on thursdays is the real question.
In light of recent events and the opinion I have of the scene at the moment (certain players, cliq mentalities, and games played) I have decided its in my best interest to just take a break away from all this for awhile. As in all the travel and active competing. This isnt just some post trying to get anybody’s sympathy or ask for any type of handouts becauce I dont want any false solace…im just at a point where im looking at everything happening and for the first time in a very long time im just somewhat disappointed in what I see in this state. I WARN YOU some people may take offense to some of the things I am about to say, and I respect their right to retort however they see fit.

Im tired of not having my contributions to the community as a whole recognized or even acknowledged. Yes this one is a little self serving, but im a human being and sometimes a simple “thank you” goes a long ways. For the most part this isnt a huge issue but I do a whole lot of thankless things for alot of people and im tired of having that generosity taken advantage of. Theres a lot of things that I have done in the past and I continue to do right now that some people dont know about, and I dont do it for me, but I do it for the community as a whole…and frankly I believe that should afford me some modicum of respect.

I cant stand the majority of the “new” scene. Maybe im just a grumpy old man, but alot of these newer players are just whiny, internet arrogant, pompous little bitches who really wouldnt survive in the pre-SF4 era. Alot of these scrubs dont even realize they didnt get “good” until virtually every game got “bad”. Then they have the audacity to sit behind their keyboards and spew garbage left and right. The spread of misinformation and wasting of precious resources and time is astounding.

Micro scenes bother me. Instead of there being one community made up of smaller scenes that ALL came together like there used to be, everything is now a micro scene. I cant stand having to sort through each micro scene which are really just cliqs that are self contained in and of themselves and having the games played chosen for me. Outside of KoF, I really dont truly like any of the games currently out, which then works against me because I have ABSOLUTELY no way to get sufficient play and practice time with LIVE human beings. I refuse to be forced to watch and learn games I have no passion for because thats all thats being played. This is in no way a snub to any of the known groups here, but rather just me venting my frustration.

Location. I know this isnt anybody’s fault but this is a major factor when its paired with any of the above thoughts. For those few who have ventured out to my house, they know how much I put into travel. Picking people up (sometimes at a serious inconvenience because of location), going out of town, dropping people off. Sometimes two or even three times a week. Im just tired of putting pressure on myself to be Mr. Reliable for a Ride. Im tired of getting home at 3 or 4 am (sometimes later), then doing it again a day or so afterwards. Im tired of being the guy who shows up from two hours or more away and people right up the fucking street cant show up to their own shit. Mainly IM TIRED OF GETTING PROFILED BY PUNK ASS COPS/TROOPERS everywhere I go!!! Yeah I usually get the tickets dismissed or thrown out but even having to travel out of town repeatedly to handle them in the first place is annoying. And thats an extra cost that I have to shoulder every single time.
Its all just taken a toll on me. I dont feel like this venture is cost efficient for me anymore. I dont feel like im getting any joy out of my time investment. Ive never been “that guy” that always took home the pot so its not about winning nor will it ever be. Ive always been that guy that floated around top 5 in whatever game I focused on but right now im spinning my wheels as far as getting better and im wasting fuel sitting idle. Nobody and I mean NOBODY can deny me my dedication to the scene and my drive to support the community. When I say im gonna be there, come hell or high water im there. I just think its time for me to take some time away and get myself mentally back into all of this. Ive got a huge backlog of 1P games I can play for awhile, but I feel like I HAVE to step away from competitive fighters for now.
Im thinking I will be gone until at least the earliest June or as late as TTT2 (a REAL game) release.

I can definitely understand what you mean in the part about not liking a lot of the games though, since I’ve been in that same situation before.
Like I know last December (2010 actually…) I had pretty much decided on quitting fighting games all-together. At the time, Tekken was dropped from Lucky’s, and there were literally no other fighting games I had a passion for. The only reason I’m still playing now was because Arcana 3 got ported… so that kinda brought back my hope in FG’s. But if it weren’t for that game coming out for home consoles, I would have stopped playing FG’s a good while ago… D:

Honestly, I think gems should just be banned (for tournament / time reasons). It’s not like they do anything major. Like adding 10% damage isn’t gonna change anything major like move sets, specials, or frame data…so technically people would still play (relatively) the same, whether the gems are used or not.

I am changing the structure of the RanBats.
We will only be running the 5 games listed for time issues. The game fee has been raised to $10 a one time pay, venue is still $5 ($15 total), and now instead of entering your game of choice the RanBat will consist of you playing every game. You will be entered in each game regardless if you have played it or if you like it. Each game will have it’s respected points but will tally at the end for total points across the board.
This is a move to get everyone to play and/or try out games they would other wise not play. We will also be coaching people as we play to help you better understand the game.
The new format prizes are detailed in the document. I thought of this idea because some games get no love and very little people playing them cause of noninterest or money issues. Now every game will have the same number in it and you won’t have to pony up $5 for every game you want to play, you just pay a flat fee of $10. You never know with the right environment, and knowledgeable people showing you stuff, it may turn out you like the game. Plus it gives those that take the game serious a chance to play people, even if it’s just a moving dummy for now but we will get better and learn.

Other things that are going on:
Team tryouts will be in one month. I will set a day aside for the RanBats for this. I am putting together the formula for qualifying right now and will let you guys know when I am finished.
FRanbats are about to start up soon and I am talking to Shin Blanka about once a month his team and our team trade months that we visit each other for a team challenge. It will be a more focused training session and a good time to level up and see new tech. I think it will be a big money match between us but the details still haven’t been worked out yet. I am also going to be working with another state to get them started up as well so that we will have a couple teams that we will travel to and learn from.
When someone talks about NC it will be about how good we are and how strong of a community we have. Now is the time to pull together and finally do something instead of just beating up on people at weeklies. Your not getting better doing the same old thing over and over again, your not being challenged. I have put together everything for you, all you need to do is show up with a good attitude and be ready to learn.
All I am asking for is a little appreciation. The last thing I want is you to post up a 4 page essay about how awesome I am and why you want to have my children. I don’t want that shit at all and please save yourself the time and energy. If you want to show how grateful you are you can do it by coming out and supporting your fellow players. Not only is it an insult to me but also your fellow players that show up every week to get better only to have small numbers in their brackets and people shitting on everything. Same goes for Brian Paul Zebrowski and DeMo Edberson. The best way to show your grateful for then getting you to events, sacrafising their time, and killing their cars is to be on time and show up to events when they offer the ride. Hell it’s not like your driving anyways.
So much to process right now but the bottom line is that the guys that put in the work are tired of people talking a big game but never taking the opportunity when it’s there. It’s easy to sit behind a keyboard and talk shit, now it’s time you got out and did it in person.
As of right now I am going to keep the RanBats in Greensboro. I don’t mind the drive and the Greensboro guys are really trying to level up and I want to offer them the opportunity to get some help getting to events. It’s also closer to most everyone in NC. The only way I would move them back to Charlotte is if the numbers were so bad but right now they are not. All of G’bo is there and Charlotte will be coming out in force soon enough.
I have to give a shout out to Ryan Sneak Holiday, Conrad Ifejuka, Micah O. Lewis, Jayson Crawford, Jordyn Crawford, and the rest of the Greensboro guys (I am sure I missed someone, sorry). They came out to every Charlotte RanBat for almost 5 months until school took over with finals, only missing a couple days. That is dedication and I am going to repay them by keeping the RanBats in Greensboro.
For the Charlotte guys that can’t stay late. Let’s figure out a carpool just for the guys that have to leave early. For instance Dwight Pitts could drive up and bring Joshua Taylor and Nunnie with them so they could leave early and still participate in the event.

Good stuff. I like what i saw but, the most that was being played was UMVC3 AND SF X Tekken. Looks like KOF XIII is not a popular game in g-buro, but still it was a good effort.

That said, I’m ok for the format, though I don’t even play 4 of the games, and it might result on some stompings, and people aren’t going to learn unless they care about not being stomped.
One suggestion: maybe start the ranbats immediately when you get there, worry about casuals later, so folks who have to leave early, can leave earlier.
I didn’t get out till 12:30AM, not a problem for me, but it would be for folks who worked at 8am and drove an hour to get there. I understand you can’t get there earlier.
Bryan, that looks like a good format. That should get more people interested in games, and if anything, atleast you’ll have full brackets for the games. It’ll be fun.
