North Carolina Thread LXV "Farewell NC"

Sorry for the low turn out, but that is not the main issue. Durham is SNK headquarters and we should be taking care of our training and sessions in-house. I have seen the player caliber at WNB and it is good for the games that are being offered. KOF XIII is a more demanding game in terms of research, combo execution, game engine knowledge, frame data (which is pain stakingly trial by error), and multiple match information retention. That type of game is not attractive to the younger newer players who are not use to taken a few losses to gain knowledge in the long run to go to winning solidly. It is not that KOF XIII is not fit for the venue it is that the venue player in the area are not fit for KOF XIII.

Then Durham I shall be spending my upcoming time playing KOF XIII.

While I have no first hand experience, I’d say that Marvel is as rigorous from a research and strategy perspective due to the added considerations of choosing between having a full-fleshed character versus an assist character, x-factor, and team synergy. Granted that UMvC3 has a spectacular guide in which much of the needed data is offered but for a game with this depth and roster, it can hardly be called completely comprehensive.

Different strokes for different folks is all. If those players never get to see or experience KOF in any significant way, then how are we suppose to grow as a community in this neck of the woods?

I am putting the finishing touches on season 2 of ReSe NC RanBats!

I will have all the details up tonight or tomorrow.

It will be in Greensboro like I planned so long ago. Stay tuned for the details!! Can’t wait to do this for all of NC now!

While this is quite true (which is part of why I really like the game), I have another point to offer up.

Maybe, just maybe, you shouldn’t ditch a game entirely because it failed to draw numbers on the night of one of the most important yearly sporting events in the region.

KOFXIII is a beast. I havent been this hype for a fighting game in a long time. Its crazy if a game got all these old heads coming out of retirement, you know it must be hell of good. Yall will see at Final Round how we use to get down in NC.

Pastries on me!

I shoulda juumped on the kensou bandwagon a long time ago. He is so damn good. 600+ damage from a throw is godlike

Friday sessions at Ez now streaming live every friday http://www.twitch.tv/namedakamada
Saturday , Reese Let Get It !
and oh yeaa i kinda need a ride for saturday

ReSe?

I agree with both points made my Ed and by Matt.

Ed, youre right that the game (while pretty) doesnt attract that newer generation because it lacks that proper amount of flash like UMvC3 and it also doesnt have the name Street Fighter on it to help it.

KoF is like that “pretty ugly” girl in school that you know you wanna hook up with but she always wears baggy hand me down clothes and never does her hair so nobody else really sees how fucking hot she is. All she needs is for someone to take her out of her shell. Then SSF4 and UMvC3 are like the popular cheerleader that everyone has made out with and her slightly fat friend that only gets attention because she hangs with her and gives out her cookies for free.

Matt is most definitely right as well, last night was somewhat of a bad night to expect local people to come out. I think you guys should try it again in two weeks honestly. Just an idea.

I wont be out tonight because I came out last night, but I wont say I wasted it because the TH guys are running a legit thing now so I enjoyed myself. Plus I need to save my gas because I will be going to ReSe on Saturday and then right back to the area for the Island Invitational on Sunday. Speaking of ReSe, whos riding with me? I only have 2 spots open.

DeMo ReSe carpool

  1. DeMo driving
  2. DeMo’s guest

and even further out lets talk Final Round. I was talking to Ceron (Will) yesterday and he made the point that people arent talking DIRECTLY and thats gonna be a problem. its not the time to be “assuming” someone has got you for the trip and people need to quit procrastinating, thats no bullshit. I talked to the sales manager at the Westin (the venue FR is being held at) personally and there are only king rooms left, meaning ONE BED. this was the only option I had left to book MY room because I got tired of waiting on this community to speak up. now without assuming, here is who I am to believe is rooming with me.

  1. DeMo
  2. Darrell has given 100% confirmation
  3. Javier has given 100% confirmation
  4. Will has given 100% confirmation
  5. optional
  6. optional

I really dont want to even do more than 4 but I will if I have to. there are a few people who have said they want those optional slots but until I get CONFIRMATION of “Yes DeMo, I am 100% going and I have my split of costs READY” im not going to assume anything. im not being a dick but I have been burned travelling with groups before and I dont intend to get burned again. I have booked MY room for Friday March 2nd-Monday Mar 5th because last year I stayed to watch finals Sunday and then drove back same night and that wasnt a pleasant drive. I understand some people arent going to stay through to Monday so if you are in my room you are only expected to pay for the days youre in there.

now on to the Final Round carpool. as of right now my car is looking like this

  1. DeMo driving
  2. Darrell has given 100% confirmation
  3. Javier has given 100% confirmation

you guys need to get serious and get on your shit because the typical NC clusterfuck of waiting a week before aint gonna fly with me this year.

As a TO for WNB we tried to Run KOFXIII… 4 people showed up for registration. Im not getting convinced that we should spend the time to run it. The past WNB was to get a physical headcount for those who truly want this game to be ran. We decided what better way to run it, then to do a little side tourney for the game without messing up our schedule. Core Raleigh doesn’t play it because we don’t know if its worth it. That was the whole point of this. If we saw people come down for this we would of start playing it. Soooo why didn;t anyone show up, especially you RDU guys. You heard time and time again from both OJ and Jon that we run our tournaments legit so i don’t see the way we are running the tournament to be the problem so now i’m confused. lol. But whatever the case may be, we’re just a new scene trying to take it slow and actually be good at a game or games that people care about. SUPPORT WNB!!!

I already told you I had work and would come out for KoF next week (Which I took off and plan to come out for two games I don’t even like although I don’t hate them either). Jon just overslept and Daryl was busy with the sporting event + other stuff. You can’t say oh nobody came because people make plans for the biggest college basketball rivalry so lets not bother people won’t support it. I don’t plan to ever take off Wednesdays at work because I think AE is not a good game and that Marvel is ass so of course if we just go OH WAIT KOF THIS WEEK FOR SURE I can’t just “go” and neither can the other people that have work but could get off if given the time. KoF at tournaments has consistently held a pretty high position for people entered compared to capcom games so it’s definitely not something to sit on.

SO RESE Tournament is this Saturday! ANyone looking for to carpool Saturday from Fayetteville to Charlotte? If so PM no later then 10 pm Friday because I will not be checking my messages afterwards!! All i ask is for $10 to help with gas, $5 going and $5 back! I got room for 3, I don’t play DJ so bring your own music! My car plays CD’s and Tapes :frowning: no aux but you can bring a aux tape. I’m trying to make it to Charlotte no later then 10am and leaving about 10pm since I’ll be running the Rese stream.

ummm there were more than 4 people there for KoF

DeMo
Blake
Mike (Sofa)
Marcus
NC State guy, im sorry if the name slips me while I type this
Kris showed up a little late but he was there
and im pretty sure Tyrell would have played because he played in casuals.

thats 7 of the 8 you guys wanted. plus had Mike (Alice) had shown up with just him and Dustin, thats 9. add Jon who overslept, Darrell who had other obligations, and Javier who wouldve came with Darrell and theres 12. how many heads did UMvC3 pull? 13. and your numbers have been going DOWN by my observations. like I said on FB I appreciate you guys trying last night, but now I feel like you want to justify dropping support of an AMAZING game because of last night. hell if you guys want numbers how come NONE of you opted to enter it? you want a scene to support you…well you gotta support it as well. even if we had got the minimum players you wanted it still would have been the SAME thing as playing at our weekly sessions, which is pretty much what the WNB is honestly. you guys are a group who plays with each other exclusively weekly, the only difference is that you have organized your weekly sessions into tournaments.

i love Jon and OJ as well, but the scene is much bigger than two players who just so happen to play the games you guys push very well, which also happen to be the two games with the name Capcom on them, which means they will attract the general populace more than a game like KoF.

and i believe ive EARNED the right to voice that opinion because i did my part by showing up from over an hour out to play a half hour of casuals then eat appetizers and watch the bball game. once i knew KoF wasnt gonna happen i could have simply left. but i stayed, i paid the venue, i ate some food, i supported your scene for a game i dont even play.

Demo, i really really really appreciate you and the others who came out to support us and KOF, but listen here’s a couple points. point 1, we said 7pm; by 7pm if there were not 8 people in attendance we were not going to bother running it. Now that doesn’t mean we don’t want to ever run KOF as a tournament game; especially because most of the TO’s for WNB bought the game for the KOF players. Now, KOF is a longer tournament game than marvel and AE, plus the lack of setups that we have and the time contraint. So 4-5 people were there by 7pm, we said 8 therefore we didnt run it. Simple. we advertised it on SRK, our facebook group, and the RDU illumanati group on FB as well numerous of times in 1 week prior to the tournament. point 2, you say “I feel like you want to justify dropping support of an AMAZING game because of last night”. AGAIN, we bought the game for you and everyone who wants to play it. We’re going to run it again, im just saying im not convinced with the turnout of last night. I don’t care about the excuses honestly. Don’t say “Run this Game” and then not come. Demo, honestly this post aint about you and the others who showed because ya’ll did your part and it would pain me to come to event and not be able to play the game you want to play and i want to apologize about this but rules are rules. Talk to ya boys not us for that. point 3, This is our 5th tournament, of course ima see the same familiar faces i see at sessions, because they want to support the scene; im not quite sure what you’re getting at their. Ummm and its a local tournament that we advertise everywhere; you see us up here on SRK everyweek about the next WNB so i dont know what you mean by “exclusively”. point 4, it is because of Jon that why got the idea to run KOFXIII so i’d like to thank Jon for the Idea. not to mention we are running Soul Calibur next week because Jon asked for it. Again i cant thank you more enough for trying to expand KOF, but we are going to need more people next time. I’d like more feedback so we can get these tournaments right for everyone to enjoy but if we cater to the peoples wishes and you still arent satisfied, im not sure what to do.

Welp, that’s a shame. In any case, as much as it sucked for the tournament to not happen, I can’t really complain because the rules were pretty much laid out beforehand and as Xaiah mentioned, it was advertised in multiple places well before the tournament. But oh well.

I do think that if anything, sticking to just SF4 and UMvC3 is going to eventually hurt the turnout for these locals. It’s good that you guys are open to having other games present. If SC5 is on the roster for next Wednesday, I will do my best to make it out there. I do have a Chemistry exam the following day, so it’s up in the air.

trust me, the people who didnt show arent off the hook in my book by ANY means, but what im saying is that if YOU guys bought the game then why arent YOU playing it?

ok say we had 5 there by 7pm. but there were also 3 copies of KoF there, meaning there were 3 people on YOUR staff that own the game but didnt enter it. see what im saying?

I still don’t think you’re realizing that posting oh flavor of the week, one week before it actually happens isn’t enough time to commit to it. Like I said there are people like me out there who absolutely hate UMVC3 and have a small dislike for AE that aren’t going to be going to those things normally and need time to take off or be able to get their schedules adjusted to show up for these things and as it was mentioned it was a big night for college basketball and people had already made plans for that too of course.

Demo I can confirm 100% that I can carpool to Final Round 15 with you if you have an available spot (#4 I’m hoping) to do so. Please let me know if this is a go or not. Thank you kind sir.

1.) UNC vs. Duke…kind of a big deal in the state of North Carolina.

2.) People have to work and can’t take off whenever they feel like it, because they have to work. So one week doesn’t work too well for people who may have to give at least a two week notice.

3.) UNC vs. Duke…kind of a big deal in the state of North Carolina.

4.) Women to talk to while watching UNC vs. Duke…kind of a big deal in general.

Just give a little more heads up so people can arrange their times better. Some were down to put other things aside and come out, but I do respect those who had other pressing matters at the moment. I just feel like you guys don’t really want to run KOF and now want to throw “the community doesn’t care” because people had prior plans or obligations before the tournament was ever announced. Not saying that’s the case, just how I personally feel about the matter.

I respect the time and everything you guys are doing out there, rules are rules like you said. I’m just saying the short notice and other things going on that same day caused some issues for some people, so please don’t overlook it as “well if they don’t care why should we.” That’s not the case here.
