So they made the game to have the player focus on resets instead of one really big damaging combo for the kill? Cool then. My combo looked like that one until after 6HC. I usually would mix and match stuff there, but still did pretty good damage. I pulled off the time stop at the end of the combo at Jon’s place one night, but haven’t gotten around to testing much else since then.
What’s causing the resets, cause can’t the opponent block? I want to actually sit down and learn the in-depth fundamentals of the game when I talk about playing it properly. Half the stuff I can do I don’t so I limit my ability through lack of knowledge which is why a lot of the time I would get cornered when there was something simple I could have done to get out. I’ve got a ton to learn, but before I try reading a novel I need to learn the alphabets first.
After the new year when I’m back we need to get some games in. It’ll probably be after Mr. Karate is out, so it should be interesting.

I just wanted to pop in and say Merry Christmas. I haven’t been playing as much games as I want to because it’s expensive to go to the big city, but I just got my hands on a cheap ass bus pass so I’m gonna be going a lot from now on and getting my grind on ^^.
Teaching here is fucking rad, but to be perfectly honest with you guys, it’s been a bit of a bittersweet time for me so far. As I told many of you before I left, my family’s store went bankrupt and closed down when I left, and my family declared bankruptcy as well. Well, last month, my parents’ cars were seized by the banks, and it looks like we’re going to be giving up our house sometime in the coming months as well. So it’s been slightly tough for me - I’m doing well, but my family is kinda struggling (although they remain shockingly optimistic about it…) and I can’t really help it. I’m not even slightly religious in the least, but if you could just keep my dad in your thoughts, I would appreciate it. He’s my hero, and honestly, it’s really tough for me to see him going through this rough of a spot after he worked his tail off to support me and my brother up until we were financially independent, only to have the economy turn on him at the last second and take away any chance he had at retirement.
It’s a bit melancholy of a thought to share on Christmas, but I really would appreciate it.

Though personally I’m wanting New Year’s as soon as possible. I can’t think of anyone I know that hasn’t had a bad year due to economic or medical reasons. Hopefully 2012 will be better for everyone.
Play the game properly? Pretty sure I don’t play Arcana properly lol. I infamously don’t do the “right” combos and just come up with my own (usually worse) nonsense, but that’s a big part of the fun for me.
Well Jon, the players just aren’t there for Marvel for various reasons. It’s not just those main games, it’s everything. Our main player base has fallen off for all the games. It’s not that there’s a “focus” or whatever on Arcana, it’s that so many overall are unable to play. Arcana is just a smaller game that held on because Doug, Rob and myself all happened to still be able to play. Several others don’t like the game. Too bad there’s still no Gambit, would probably play it then (for a few months, before I get blown with xf level 3 abc combos again) D:

In Arcana when you return from hitstun while at neutral you have 2 frames where you effectively cannot do anything but block. This allows a few character/arcana combination to have inescapable zero death setups, outside of bursting.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Elsa had a few more undiscovered ones as well.
What makes them unable to block is the fact that 2[E] guardbreaks if you block it.
Time super prorates 50% and -20F untechable time, if I remember correctly. I can think of exactly one combo after it that’s actually worth doing (with Clarice), and that’s just because it drains 3.2k health (it does significantly more than that, but you gain 3.2k back). It’s usually used for mixups though, yes.
There’s a 2 frame window when you come out of hitstun where all you can do is block. Elsa abuses this after pin (which leaves them standing); you set up a situation where your 2[E] becomes fully charged just as the opponent comes out of hitstun, and then follow up with another combo. Most arcanas’ 2[E]s just guard crush, but Fire makes 2[E] a true unblockable that they can’t mash out of. To set up unblockable resets with any other arcana, you have to hit the opponent with another attack immediately after the 2[E] or they can mash out of it. The only things fast enough for that are arcana specials, so the specific reset varies by arcana. They’re a lot harder to do that they look.
edit: Oh, Punishment makes 2[E] and 5[E] true unblockables as well, but it also causes them not to launch.
Sorry to hear that man, I hope things look up for them. If it helps you feel better, my family went through the whole bankruptcy thing a few years ago, but the banks / government is pretty willing to help people with their mortgage to get an affordable price since I guess this is happening to a lot of people now. Hopefully something like that happens with your folks and you don’t have to lose the house.

It’s cool though, SC5 is coming out and I know we’ll all be on that like crack. Not knocking you guys for playing what you like btw, that’s awesome. It’s cool to see a game like Arcana still have a pretty dedicated scene even when it’s not super popular. I just love me some big tournaments too much lol.

This year has been okay overall for me, I guess. It’s rough for everyone and I hope things turn out for the better next year. Happy Holidays to everyone (or Merry Christmas, if you swing that way).
Minor sad things include owning a dog for just long enough to grow attached to it and then having to give it up for adoption because you can’t afford to take proper care of it.
I played SC4 (and in tournaments) and liked it, but SC5 also isn’t much like that game. Doug (longshot) and myself played SC4 weekly before we got on Arcana Heart. Anyway, there has been a deal of SC play here in the past, and the popularity of 4 doesn’t necessarily need to have any bearing on who’s in for 5. The movement improvements and meter management should make the game fun.
Also, definitely remembering Sam’s family, did some praying when I saw the post.

Why not spend that time playing what you like and minding you own business. I have been cool about it in the past but…I’m starting to loose my cool. I don’t wanna do that.
