Wait, when/where did you think I wasn’t giving effort? Sure, I might not practice as much as others due to time restraints, but I do try to learn as much as I can when I’m at a gathering. Why else would I have practically drown Rob with AH3 and Tekken questions? For the most part I don’t think you have to be at a particular level to enjoy a fighting game. Different people enjoy it for different reasons.
Shrug, I’m not saying you weren’t giving it effort but I don’t think being competitive takes as much effort as you think. I work 40 hours and have a girlfriend and other stuff that demands time from my life. I probably only practice once or twice a week. I think the hard part is the initial dissecting the game and figuring out what you want to do with it, then after that it’s all just experience (which is the fun part). I just see a lot of people stuck at the part where they don’t dissect the game, and so they stay stuck at level 1, when they could be getting a lot more out of it if they really understood everything that was going on.
I mean like I said it’s cool if you just wanna have fun and play the games but why show up to gatherings if you have no intention of getting better? Why not just play with random RL friends and what not. Coming out and getting perfected repeatedly can’t be that fun for you. And I don’t mean that with any disrespect, just trying to figure out what it is you actually want since half your posts sound like you want to get better and compete, but then when that’s challenged, you fall back on wanting to have fun.
We’ve met a couple times already but I just want to say I’m of a very similar situation and attitude and I’ve enjoyed the times we’ve played together. You seem very lighthearted about your wins and your losses and I hope I’ve come off the same way - I’ll say I take the hobby a little more seriously than some people but my goals are more about learning and growing as a player than about winning specifically.

You should come to the Elite Zone gatherings in Fayetteville on Fridays, very laid back atmosphere and lots of games, especially if you’re willing to stay until the sun comes up. I’ve missed the last couple but I’ll be there this week! If nothing else though hit me up for some online games, we’ve barely ever played (I think the last time was just after Marvel 3 came out and you beat me down pretty hard with Dorm)
Wait, you think that because if I lose or I’m not as good as a lot of the other players that instead of “leveling up” I throw “I’m just playing for fun?” If that’s the case then I understand where you are coming from and I apologize if you feel that way. Long story to explain, or at least just over the forums anyway, but big thanks for the input bro.

Im speaking solely on the Tekken Bob breakdown here. Dont be fooled by the boring display at EVO, those matches were so full of holes that I cant even begin to tell you why I was so angry watching them. I was literally screaming at my screen. But heres a little snippet, for the top 8 to be the representation of the game’s best players…why the FUCK wasnt ANYBODY properly punishing Bob’s bellyflop? watch the matches again…NOBODY…NOT ONE SINGLE PLAYER launched Bob for using one of the most blatantly unsafe moves in the game. That was a poor representation of the game imho. But I take nothing from the players, but I will say this: how come Tekken was the ONLY game at this year’s EVO without true international representation (and Ryan Hart doesnt count)? Also for those who are hype about KoFXIII, ATLUS has a character wish list thread on their forum site and they claim they will pay attention to it for future DLC. The rules are simple, name 3 guys and 3 girls you want to see in the game, keep your choices canon (as in no dead characters), and nothing too crazy. I pretty much know that they probably already know what characters they are going to do seeing as how it takes so long to work on one, but it never hurts to see what the community thinks. I already put my vote in for
Heidern, Yamazaki, Oswald, Blue Mary, B. Jenet, and Vanessa

It takes some people a lot more effort then others to get the same results, and this can vary from game to game. Talent level does matter, as does dedication- it’s hard to be dedicated to a game if you don’t really respect it.
