The test button you map in the input configurator is what’s used to enter the service menu, not the service buttons (if that makes any sense).
The excuse for AE was that a lot of other players were able to find an arcade that had the game and become better that way before it became DLC. Now that people can get their hands on KOF XIII in some way they would rather GIVE the advantage away. I said I was done making excuses and I’m not gonna let an opportunity pass me by without giving it a shot.
Tekken 6, SSFIV:AE, and MvC3. I don’t know how long I’ve been posting up on SRK asking who’s having sessions. Tried the people on the first page and only you and Demo responded back with something. Can’t seem to find anyone in my area who plays so its mainly tournaments for the long distance drives besides the few long distance sessions I can make it out to. Now that I hear Lucky’s may be done only EZ remains. I gotta find something to do before I go out of state and hopefully KOF XIII will help hold me out until then. I’m not trying to make excuses, only improvements.
Jimmy: You know you love BB, you know want to play Tager and pretend he’s good. You can’t fool me.
Give the advantage away? Is there some war going on nobody informed me about. If you’re this serious about playing a game, doesn’t it make sense to play one that has a scene that knows how to play the game competently, or a game that the community at large has working access too, or doesn’t seem to have built in latency issues. From your posts I can see that you’re really serious about not making excuses (excuses for what?) but this seems like an odd area to focus your efforts.
I’m moving the gathering at my place this week to THURSDAY.
I got some stuff to take care of, so this gives you guys plenty of heads up for those that want to come out.
Strafe Gaming have 2100 Sq. Ft on their upstairs, and 3000 sq. Ft in the basement.
I’m honestly against the rip for KOF XIII for reasons I won’t go into because they should be obvious to the people that know me and going into it here will just cause an argument. From a practical perspective, access to the game isn’t as universal as other competitive games right now, which means practicing the game will be a lot more difficult. Playing matches is one thing, but with some players having no access to legit training to figure out things like combos and character specific counters, it just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to put forth a lot of effort into trying to learn the game right now. I know this has already been mentioned somewhat by Lucerne, but I wanted to emphasize how much this will kill the game for some people who might otherwise be really hype about it.
As far as people having early access to AE and gaining an advantage, the same is true of XIII. There are arcades in this country that have had the game available to play for a long time now. In fact, it’s actually been available LONGER than AE. Those people will still have an advantage whether you start playing XIII now or in October.
Built in latency makes a difference too. While I didn’t have to re-learn Ragna stuff on console (because CS1 Ragna was so easy), the arcade rip would occasionally speed up to the point of unplayability. These unofficial releases simply aren’t reliable.
HEY GUYS. SO. The JET program just completely blindsided me with the news that I have to be carrying about $3,000 on me when I enter the country for various fees and crap that I will have to pay. I WAS NOT READY FOR THIS. As a result, I’m kinda flipping my shit trying to get the money together, and I’m going to be selling some of my stuff.
As an interest check, here are the things I’m probably going to be trying to get rid of:
1st generation Macbook Pro (Still works great, but there’s minor damage to the outside case)
Anime DVDs (Boxsets, single dvds…if people actually show interest for this, I will create an accurate list of what I have. Note that anime is in english, usually with Japanese also available. Some of it’s subtitle only though)
Manga (I have a ton of it, mostly incomplete sets, but the same as anime, I will make a list if there’s any interest. Note that the manga is in english, not japanese)
PS1 Games: FFVII (2 copies, good condition), Star Ocean: The Second Story, Final Fantasy Anthology, Suikoden 1, Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics.
Nintendo DSi - Pretty much in the same condition as I bought it in, fantastic. DSi’s menus ARE in Japanese, though.
Nintendo DS games - Pokemon Platinum (In Japanese), Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light, Love Plus (again, in Japanese)
Edit: I also have a list of 360 games that I’m selling on the NC Fighters facebook group.
It’s the “test” button
duude. . . we have to play on GGPO.
Damn that sucks. Not gonna be enough though. Might have to show some leg at the street corner.
For real though, since it’s a school program (i think right?) Would there be any sort of scholarship / funding / (as a last resort) student loans? Just some ideas.
On another note for people that know a lot about XIII… I’m looking at Kensou, Kim, Andy, and Duo Lon… are any of them any good?
There’s a training mode in there actually. Also you can turn off input lag. Not sure if the random speeding up is a hardware issue but I’ve yet to experience it on my PC (pretty high end).
Lol @ people talking about A3. Really, nobody is ready that doesn’t already know in that game.
I’ll play CS2 as soon as I get my PS3 back from Lucky. He told me he was shipping it today.
What part of Japan are you goin to? Oh How much for Suikoden, and Pokemon Platinum, Love Plus?
Jon, it’s not the presence or lack thereof of a training mode, it’s more the fact that you need a high end PC to run it and not everyone has a grand plus to drop on a PC if they don’t already game hardcore on PC. You can make the argument that it just constitutes the base cost to play a game, but really, comparing the cost of a PS3 or a 360 and game to the cost of a high end gaming PC is ridiculous. You also have to actually acquire the roms, and while I said I wasn’t gonna go there, I really wish people would take into consideration that any time you download those files, you’re basically stealing over two thousand dollars from SNK, a company that hasn’t exactly been doing well lately.
With as many people that downloaded BB:CS, I don’t feel too bad. It’s not going to stop me from buying it on 360 when it comes out in October. I’ve seen SF4 leaks, SSF4 leaks, MvC3 leaks, BB:CS leaks… and every single one of those people bought the retail game anyway. Piracy in the fighting game community seems different from the people who download Fallout and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and stuff. On a technical/moral level, it’s not any different, piracy is always stealing. But on a realistic level, piracy is always used in fighting games for stuff that isn’t out, and then the burned/downloaded versions are forgotten when the retail disc hits versus the people who download big name titles for free and play them and those companies never seen the money ever. SNK is still getting my money in October regardless of this leak existing or not existing. Not like I was about to go out and buy an entire arcade unit but the leak stopped me from it.
Also, my PC only cost me about $600 in 2007, with an additional $200 worth of upgrades in 2009, custom built from newegg parts. It runs KOF 13 absolutely perfect. The requirements aren’t as high as you’d think. But I do agree, anyone without a PC to run it will definitely be SOL cause it’s not worth buying one just for this.
I’m not going to download the dump personally. I don’t think I could stand playing the CPU for months, and I can’t spend more then 5 minutes in practice mode without getting bored.
That said, while it’s having something that isn’t rightfully yours, if you buy the damn game, SNK suffers no damage from it.
I will be going to Kumamoto prefecture in Kyushu. Also, individually, I’d say $15 for Pokemon, $15 for Love Plus and $25 for Suikoden. Could do some sort of package deal though, $50 for all 3 or something like that?
Yeah I had planned to buy XOF 13 when it’s released, so I don’t feel too bad about this… not that I would have anyway. I like to support fighting game developers… they’re the only games worth owning for me usually.
Also as far as a PC upgrade, you could get a really good upgrade for like 500 to what you have currently probably. Anything above 1000 is going for top of the line but you don’t need THE best to have a good PC. There’s a lot of awesome games for PC too, but I guess we’re all old men and don’t have time for a lot of games these days anyway. I dunno. My porn plays a lot smoother /shrug
I think what people are forgetting is that the console version is going to be significantly different, with ADDITIONAL EXCLUSIVE CHARACTERS. So I don’t see how this arcade rip is really going to hurt console sales, as the console version is going to be almost like a new game anyway, unless of course the new characters are totally shitty and tossed in half-completed like Mature and Elizabeth in XII.
If anything this may actually get MORE people interested into actually paying American dollars for the full real version of the game, because goodness knows SNKP can’t be assed into making an actual demo themselves.
There is literally no one I believe who was actually planning on buying KOF13 who will be dissuaded from buying it by this rip.
The only thing I’m mad about is that it just reminds me how much my PC sucks.
I thought people would know better than to ask this kind of question with every single new game.
Essentially this question is never about if a character is good, but “what’s the tierlist for the game” and/or “is the game balanced enough for everyone to compete”.
For the former:
[LIST]
[]4 - K’, Raiden
[]3 - Andy, Shen, Kyo, Iori, Kula, Elisabeth, Takuma

[]1 - Goro, Terry, Kensou, Mature, Maxima, Joe, Robert, King, Hwa, Ralf
[*]0 - Mai, Athena, Clark, Ryo, Vice

For the latter, it’s debatable at this point on how much exactly K’ and Raiden dominate the cast. The KOF XIII scene, especially in Japan, has been mostly lazy, so I doubt even at this point most of the lower-tier has been properly “discovered”. Remember that pre-patch, shenanigans ran pretty wild all over the game, and SBO was a top-tier circle jerk.
The game at high-level is definitely all about the Drive Cancels. I notice that all of the bottom tier characters listed have extremely limited damage and options off of HDC. This is very much an offensive-minded game, even if it doesn’t look as crazy and fast as Marvel or airdash-gatling-allday Annie-May games.
@Lucerne: To each his own. I like KOF XIII and I’m gonna play it regardless other people decide to jump on it or not, but I would like to see it grow more along with Tekken in NC. Although Tekken 6 is my fav I’m focusing on MvC3 and SFIV as well, but nobody around really plays them so instead of arguing that nobody plays I’d like to look towards a game that I enjoy more than two out of the three.
@x S A M U R A Ix: Where do you live at and what time?
@TitaniumBeast!: I understand where you are coming from with nobody really getting any training in the game, but I came out to gatherings to try out MvC3, SFIV, and AH3 considering I didn’t own the game for either meaning I had no practice what so ever when I played. That’s just me though and where many people would avoid those type of gatherings until after playing countless hours in training mode, I prefer going out, meeting people, and hearing whatever advice I can take before I jump in with useless presumptions about the game and my skill level.
Although there is a PC leak of KOF XIII that’s not gonna stop me from buying the game when it hits stores, so SNK still gets their money. If anything this leak has made me more interested in the game since I never played KOF XII. I just want people to try the game out and if they like it lets get some games going, but in no way would I advise not buying the retail version and using the PC leak as a substitution.
@Sumaragi: How much for Final Fantasy Anthology and what about that Macbook Pro?
@SeanxFayt: I’ve heard about GGPO a couple of times but never really bothered considering how much I enjoy local play instead. Considering how much I love Alpha 3 and if I can get some games in with someone I’m willing to give it a shot.
@Frank the Tank: Do you play A3? I’ve never heard of you playing that game. The most I’ve played against NC players in Alpha 3 was at last year’s AZ, but I think they were just randoms who wanted to jump on the sticks.
Just throwing my opinion out there…If people are “serious” about playing KOF, they should be playing it now (on the PC). Though I’m not saying DL’ing the game is the right thing to do…It would make sense that people will buy the game after it hits consoles. So that shouldn’t be a reason for people not playing KOF XIII.
For people who don’t have a high-end PC…You don’t need to own the game in order to go to gatherings/tournaments and play KOF (if people are eager to support the game, and bring their laptop + KOF XIII). If some new SF4 version came out at an arcade 45 minutes from your house, would you just not play it because you don’t own it / have to leave your bedroom in order to play? That answer would probably disregard the other reason for not playing KOF XIII (disadvantage due to availability).
Not that I’m some KOF fiend or anything (As some already know, I don’t even plan on playing FG’s much after Arcana dies)… I just already know that if you don’t like the game enough to play it on a PC (whether you have it on your PC or not), you “probably” don’t like the game enough to play it after its brand-new phase after console release. The only reason that would make sense for a person not to play on PC is a bad framerate / lag… but that’s definitely not the case since we’re talking about playing on high-end PC’s.
