North Carolina Thread LVIII

Because its the sort of thing that should obviously be banned considering it requires two input devices to work.

lol marvel and it’s programming oversights

lol I agree with this.

Play some laggy Arcana 3 on your PS3 Jimmy! D:

Also, I will probably play Mai/Yuri/Lizzy in XIII. I’m not playing the game atm, waiting for release, but that’s most likley my team. Compatible with the ratio bullshit if we do that also I think! However, I would urge strongly against this, even though I hate life just a little bit every time I see Raiden do you know what. K’ is just a solid, do-everything and not give a damn character.

if NC wouldn’t allow it, i would highly doubt you could do that shit at nationals.

Now before people keep posting about this think for a second, how on Earth would we enforce a rule like that?

if only marvel had a “block” button
j/k
but this double blocking this has been around for months though . . . and apparently in some older games as well. why is it such a big deal now?

It’s a big deal now because it came up now. If it came up in relation to any other game, I’m pretty sure basically the same discussion would ensue.

Jon, I also think that it’s pretty unfair. And I don’t even see how it would require you to take your hands off the buttons. If you only use your thumbs sure, but you do have 4 other fingers available if you shift the way you hold the pad pretty easily.

is there a way to patch this controller issue??? there’s no way they would ban xbox or ps controllers so they need to do something about this.

There is only two ways without a patch, and that’s to ban pad players and old hitbox users, or watch their hands the entire fucking match.

Regardless of what situation you use it in, it’s still scrubby as shit. Even if you can name 100,000 situations where you technically COULD use it but it just wouldn’t be probable (well, it’s not a 100% thoughtless defense in THIS situation…), you can still name one where it’s fucking broken. And what Ron said, the biggest reason is that it requires too input devices. There’s a difference between a glitch in the way the game engine works causing the game to not really work as intended (The first special cancel? Marvel 3 DHC Glitch? SF4 Unblockables, even though a few people kneejerked to it? Possibly even Option Selects but maybe not?) and a glitch causing the game to interpret two input devices at once allowing you to do things like walking Soniic Booms in HDR. They’ve already got plenty of bans and have put them in place in the past to prevent modded joysticks from allowing left/right simultaneous input cause everyone knows it’s bullshit.

But yeah, most games were smart enough to not let you use the stick and the pad aside from HDR/MvC3. But the hitbox’s “braindead cross-up defense” was tested to work for HDR/MvC2/BB and then MvC3. And in some of those games, it even let you perform charge motion moves without letting go of back/down. Like MvC3.

First off, this is only a problem on 360 marvel.

Secondly, it’s not that big of a problem. Have you all not played marvel? You get crossed up overhead and then hit low within a few frames, then it happens to you again on the other side a few frames after that. Moving your hands in an awkward way to block both sides isn’t ideal in most situations.

That being said, it does give an unfair advantage in certain situations. I don’t think it’s enough of an advantage for us to get to upset about. Jon and OJ have known about this for a while and neither of them won the last EZ tournament, this is not a ground breaking technique. You can do unblockables in marvel…being able to block both sides once in a while in certain situations is eh…whatever.

I’m not going to stress it. It’s almost impossible to enforce.

Should it be patched? Yes. Should we complain about it until it is? No

EDIT: And all the talk about ‘2 input devices’ is garbage because these games are developed for console where the vast majority of people that purchase these games play on a pad.

Yes, Capcom would have to hear enough about it to patch it. Until then, they probably won’t care about it. Here you go:
http://www.capcom-unity.com/go/suggestion/box

How and why are people trying to rationalize using a pad to block on both sides as a fair and viable technique? This is one of the most inane fucking discussions I’ve ever seen on here. Why not allow turbo and 3 button maps? I vote yes because it’s not ideal in most situations because my normal doesn’t chain and I only really need two buttons for an EX and three buttons may accidentally give me an ultra. It’s fair don’t worry don’t see me slippin.

The excuse that’s it’s “hard” to do makes no sense either. Controller on lap, left thumb on dpad, right fingers on buttons, right thumb on stick when you wanna block both ways whoohoo! THIS IS FUCKING STUPID.

Jon, have you ever done this in tournament?

On a side note, and this is really just beating a pointless dead-horse, but if you haven’t actually driven from Raleigh to Wilmington or Wilmington to Raleigh or Greensboro to Fayetteville or Greensboro to Raleigh or Greensboro to Durham or Winston to Fayetteville or Winston to Durham, ETC AD NAUSEUM, please don’t tell me how long it takes you Morgan Freeman motherfuckers. <3

<-- waitin’ for the patch!

(A big shout to Matt for coming through yesterday and making the tournament worth our while. We’ll do our best to ensure attendance grows with each weekly and thanks for your support.)

That’s not the point, Jos. The point is that it was an obvious OVERSIGHT on Capcom’s part. You’d think they would’ve learned from HDR. It’s only supposed to read one or the other from a pad, not both. It doesn’t matter how few situations you think it can be used in, even ONE is too many. And as much damn complaining as I had to read about stuff that wasn’t really a major issue (Boohoohoo, Sentinel is SOOOOO hard to fight. Sentinel vs. Sentinel 3), I think the complaining on THIS is more than qualified considering what it’s about. And Jon listed one major example. Random Maximum Wesker DHC XFC for the kill. Regardless of why Wesker’s super is random, this specific blocking technique completely neutralizes that and robs it from the game engine. And I don’t even play Wesker. I think his super’s randomness is a bit stupid, but I wouldn’t try to justify robbing him of that “bullshit” with something that is ACTUALLY bullshit by abusing inputs. “Hey guys, let’s out cheat the ‘cheaters’ by holding left and right!” (the ‘cheaters’ aren’t actually cheating in this situation with Wesker, in case you missed that quotations symbolizing my own sarcasm within this hypothetical quote from a random scrubby ass Marvel player.)

EDIT:
And yeah, to add on to Roski, LP+LK mapping is BANNED in tournament in 4/Super/AE. You can’t map THROW. Something THAT basic. They will gladly let someone fuck up a throw cause of a mispress, you think double-blocking is somehow legit? Get the fuck out of here with that shit.

This one time I (true story) came up with an OS in Super by hitting LP+LK+MP+MK~backdash delayed in blockstrings to break the throw or focus backdash away.

I think I’ll buy a hitbox and have those four presses with an instant macro back-back command mapped to one button that I can only press with my right middle finger. Hopefully I can have the hitbox on a table when I do it so I can use my left hand to whip out my balls while we’re playing because there’s no tournament rule in place that says I can’t specifically do that.

nc players are TRAAAAAAAAAAAASH

please dont play me and do this shit if your on a pad

If Wesker XFCs and does Maximum Wesker, I’m actually glad because that’s probably the least damaging or threatening thing he can do in X-Factor.

Then again, I play Hulk. Stop running teams full of characters made completely out of paper, Jon.

Actually quite a few tournaments, majors even, have started allowing 3P or 3K macros.

I’m not saying I *agree *with it, but just pointing it out…

You never gave me the FT10 in a3. . .

been caught up i will be down alittle later today

y should pad players be able to do some special shit that other players cant. that doesn’t sound any different from a turbo button to me its a hardware thing that lets you do stuff other players cant.I mean, none of you have any honor anyway but at least plinking and osing is someting any player can do if without having to use special equipment

if your game is such a joke that this is the kind of shit you people think is cool or or good than ur even bigger fools than i thought. word? someone has to specifically tell you not to do some shit or else youll just do it? glad to know none of you are fans of self control either because its not exactly my strong point. thats probably why ill clock the fuck of out of punk that tries this on me. not even, yall ever seen alladin when that a-rab tries to steal an apple and they cut his hand off? we need to bring that shit back for real because people done got it twisted around here

Interesting discussion here. For the record, I’m against this pad blocking scheme as the reasoning besides that its not illegal is ridiculous. Guess steriods were cool in sports before they were banned too. Also, I’m against any button mapping. I know this is the console age, but if those button inputs weren’t available to you in an arcade setting you shouldn’t be able to use them in a competitive tourney setting.
