North Carolina Thread LVIII

So does that make you immune to wolverine and phoenix crossups? Granted trying to block high low mixups from the two are still going to be a pain so I don’t want to blow this thing out of proportion. Just asking.

Josiah we could have played yesterday man. We could have gone over the game so you would understand it a little better. Anytime you are in the mood I can swing by your place and we can play; might even be able to learn marvel to while i’m at it instead of just picking up the stick and button mashing. Only thing is I have a really hard time playing on 360 pad and my execution on stick has gone to shit too. ughh

Demo, I hope to see you tonight, so I can show you my two main’s new changes

I got caught in the marvel trap, phoenix rage >.>

It’s not really ergnomical to be able to do reliably on a pad over and over again. Although if you see a cross up coming and have time you can block both ways. If the hitbox let you do it, you could block both ways every single time no problem.

You don’t really have enough time to switch your fingers over to the analog stick in a real match outside of when there’s a super freeze so you’re limiting yourself. It just prevents bullshit random uncontrollable wesker cross up into DHC death. I asked around in the tournament threads if this was banned, and people said there has been no official ruling on it, so if someone tries to kill me with the wesker ambiguous super in tournament, I’m using this until it’s ruled otherwise. Hell I’d do it vs wolverine too if I had time. Fuck that character lol

Cook Out with their high ass food. I’m all about that Wendy’s and BK dollar menu.

Alright then. I love playing MvC3 despite its shortcomings, just feels like a funner game to play than the rest right now. I have seen one thing that I almost demand they fix. While playing Bryce the last few nights I’ve been crossed up in some ridiculous fashions. Mainly when I’m coming in from a character death. I’ve literally been crossed up ie I needed to hold foward instead of back with Wesker/Zero/insert teleport character here teleporting directly in front of me. Now I’ve had my problems with X Factor, Phoenix, what have you in this game but I’d really like my eyes to not deceive me in terms of what I’m blocking on the screen.

That being said I’m still doing my weekly sessions this week if anyone is interested.

what in the hell are you smoking? you can get a cook-out tray (with a REAL burger not some dollar menu garabge) with two sides and a drink for under $5. your local cook-out must be on some new shit lol.

Lawrence: changing mains again? thats bad business man. youre doing REALLY good with Asuka, you just have to work on patience and punishing more. switching mains may seem like a good idea to begin with but at the same time (and this is NOT an insult) you have to understand that you need to have a strong understanding of all of the facets of the game before jumping from character to character. either way, I look forward to what youre bringing.

about the blocking both ways on pad. i dont think this would be too hard to pull off actually if you were on the left side of the screen. just push the stick to the right and hold left on the pad. doesnt seem like it would be too uncomfortable. i still think this technique should be frowned upon in tournament though.

I’ve felt about switching some also, in preparation for Tag, in order to learn a 2nd character. Then again I’ll probably switch to Jun, though I love Asuka’s voice (why I picked her)

I agree that this stuff is pretty annoying, you’d have a lot of fun fighting Garrett… he hits you once and then the rest of the round is trying to block those unseeable cross up mixups into character death into entry mixup into death and so on. It’d be nice if they let you choose the side you come in on or something but yeah… probably the most annoying part of Marvel.

Yeah I was mostly joking about the wolverine thing but honest to god, if neither player has ANY control over where Wesker is hitting you and it can cross you up multiple times completely randomly, and leads to DHC x factor death for that character, I have no qualms using this. That super should not do that, it’s straight up bullshit. If I block the damn thing, it should block the rest of it and not drop me out of block stun.

Well, the cross mixups I’m fine with since they are actual cross ups and if I get hit with one of those I at least feel like I made the mistake of blocking incorrectly. What I’m taking about is Wesker(being the main perpetrator) teleporting directly in front of you with some assist coming with him. Basically a failed cross up if you will that I’m getting punished for blocking correctly judging from whats on the screen since I still had to block holding towards despite the fact he’s in front of me. Sounds crazy, but I had that happen at least 3 or 4 times the past few days and this is offline BTW. Just must have something to do with his frames during a teleport or something.

That shit is cheating, straight up. I don’t care, because it’s marvel, but blocking on both sides at once is cheating, plain and simple.

If you hold forward you move into the assist. If you hold back you get crossed up. It’s essentially an unblockable in some situations.

Maybe but until they say yes / no to it being allowed in tournaments, I’m not gonna let myself get killed by that setup. Like you said, it’s Marvel anyway, seems like a no holds barred game. That “unblockable” might as well be cheating as far as I’m concerned. Dick move engage!

Will: RE: the hitbox… I talked to the guy that makes them and that was an outdated ruling. They fixed it so you can’t do that with the new hitboxes, so they are allowed at all major tournaments. I got myself on the waiting list for a dual modded one.

Yeah. That’s actually… a really scrubby thing to say. To even ATTEMPT to create a justification for how it could possibly be reasonable to do in a tournament or even a casual is bullshit. I can’t even block 20f+ overheads on my own or tech a throw to save my life, but even I know that abusing an oversight in programming to allow digital and analog inputs to give double side blocking is bullshit.

Boohoo that Wesker’s super does what it wants. Maximum Wesker is nowhere near one of the more irritating aspects of the game, with or without it following a DHC XFC. I’d be much more concerned with Wolverine/Sent instant overheads. Or Phoenix mix-ups after killing a character and waiting for the next to come in. But all that is shit in the game that you gotta deal with if you want to play it.

what tourney would allow you to block both ways at the same time. that is something that people already know is cheating, it doesnt have to be posted in the rules its common sense. it gives you an unfair advantage over your opponent.

Right but doing this basically makes it so you have to take your hands off the buttons. You’re still vulernable to high low and you can’t attack. I’m not saying I support it. I’m not saying it’s good it’s in the game, and I’m not saying it should be abused, but if it’s not banned and I’m in a tournament situation where it’s block the Wesker super or die, I would do that. It’s not reasonable to use that technique for anything else because they could simply just throw / high low you but due to the super freeze, it gives you time to relocate your hands, so it’s not something you could just do whenever you were in a mix up (ie entry, etc etc). Also using it to block a mixup requires you to realize you’re in the mixup in the first place. Most mixups aren’t even apparent until you’ve been hit by them.

Same here. I wanted a TE but forget that, a dual modded hitbox is my next stick. It looks like it will be a few months before we get our hands on the dual modded ones though since they will be usig PS360+ boards and those aren’t slated for release for another month or two (http://www.akihabarashop.jp/article_info.php?articles_id=63&osCsid=d2f37e2d1d9dcb5ad3f5c65c28e8f69c)

What else does it do? It doesn’t do damage. It doesn’t have invincibility. It doesn’t seem to be good for anything except the random crossup properties and low blockstun.

This is one of your scrubbier moments, Jon. I gotta say.

Yup, but as soon as they are available, I’m jumping on that stuff. I remember playing DFO on keyboard vs pad and my movement was so much more accurate with a keyboard… plus as they say, actuation time is a lot faster. You can do a DP in half/quarter the time on a keyboard that you can with a stick. The only problem with keyboards is the awkward ass arrow key arrangement. Having a jump button fixes that.

DHC to activation super, X factor. Dead character. You guys can say what you will on this, it doesn’t matter to me. If the option is there, and not illegal, why not use it?

Also to note, if NC does choose to ban it, I respect that and would follow the rule. I’m just saying at a nationals, no ruling on that shit? Don’t hesitate if you can do it.

Random thought on it too but isn’t using option selects exploiting mechanic of the programming? They wouldn’t be possible without and abnormally long buffer window like SF4’s. Yet people still use them. I don’t see a difference between the two in nature.

I’m kind of torn on the situation. Obviously it’s morally wrong but at the same time there is truth in what Jon says. If it’s available and not illegal then why not use it? Even if it was made illegal it would be an incredibly hard rule to enforce. The best solution is for Capcom to patch it but until then you can just chalk up Jon’s reasoning as playing to win. He isn’t using some kind of third party software/hardware to enable this, it’s just a glitch in the game not much different than the myriad off other bugs we’ve found in the game thus far.

If something is effective and legal, then abuse it. Hasn’t this been a mantra of the fighting game community for a long time now?
