tokido streaming some bbcs2 online play
There is a core group that i do stuff with plus four other people and Simon making nine. I’m not alone and we’ve done this before and the venue has done this before (IE not “baby’s first tournament.” that was months ago.) we know people who can help us. And then there is Roski who doesn’t show up much and therefore I don’t know what he looks like. Also never met him BECAUSE he doesnt show much, he is someone byrd/bloo knows and can get in contact with and is supposedly helping us set up. There isn’t a “scene” of like 50 dudes. This is Wilmington. So far we have a whole 9, 10 including Roski if he were to ever show. We are trying to get more people to show up and create a more pronounced “Scene” (though that makes me think of scene kids egh) but moreso a tournament that is full of lots of good competition, not just from there but from around the outskirts of the area and even the state. Hence me going on here and asking around.
Bend my way? Nobody is holding a gun to your head. Quite frankly you aren’t here either so you don’t have all the details on what’s going on or know what our group can do. Like I said before I’m not just coming out of nowhere, this is like the fourth time we’ve done a tournament. I see my job here as promotion, planning aid, and expansion. This is not something new. Don’t assume that you know what we’re doing without prior info.
Currently I am making arrangements to clear floorspace for setting up crt’s and xboxes at CFG with copies of the software as well as the patches. The Facebook page is up for the event and it is tentatively happening this. By that I mean I am flexible enough to move it up a week to allow for you guys to plan. If there are problems then I can move the date up a week without any trouble.
Also input on other games? I’m sorry but we can’t do m rated fighters in there so no mk, that will have to be put in somewhere else like the comic shop. I personally would like to see some st and 3s and ssf4. Would there be any particular game though that you’d definitely come for? Input please, let’s get this rolling. The more yays for a certain game the more it will be considered. We won’t do anything like MBAACC because I don’t even know if it is even possible to illegally get it in the USA right now.
Anyone know how to replace a bad cord in a stick? Mine is coming undone at the base.
Why are people pushing BB when AE is out in a few weeks. We all know that shit is gonna die the moment a new SF hits.
BB is forgettable, there’s very little comp and very little money in it. I don’t see a reason to bother. I’ll keep my animu chastity belt locked for when GG comes back.
have i met you at cfg im trying to think who you are
Believe it or not, there are people out there who don’t like Street Fighter. There’s nothing preventing me from playing both games, in any case.
There’s very little comp here in our state, go to a major and you can play more BB than you’d ever want to. People play this game.
And you’re citing money? Really? It’s not like anyone here is winning a major any time soon in SF4.
See, that’s just it. That DOES effect gameplay. The big problem is reactionary things, not just combos. Like reacting to a fireball, or trying to switch blocks. Empty jump low is SO good on laggy TVs. By the time they can see that you landed it’s too late, they’ve already been hit and just don’t know it yet. Every single ambiguous mix-up opportunity just turns into a damn unblockable instead. It throws off the timing of punishes. I might have a REALLY unsafe super that’s really fast and a great punish, and you screw up and I go to punish you for it but it’s a couple frames off and you block and kill me. In tournament finals. That’s the problem. Eliminate all lag and there are no questionable outside elements besides YOU just being a ****-up. A lot of people can’t really feel lag for some strange reason. They play at home on their big LCDs and come to tournaments and play on CRTs and never notice. Then they start dropping combos and blaming the CRT. If there’s lag I can usually feel it just when I press a normal. Just walk around and mash on stand jab for a few seconds.
tl;dr
Any lag at all effects gameplay, no matter how small it is.
Well there’s also Marvel.
Having to go out of state for comp kinda sucks. I dunno, maybe CS2 will turn out pretty good. BB has a shitty track record so far so I’m a bit uneasy about jumping in again.
Well I guess this is a better response than you just completely dogging it like you did a few posts ago. I’m not even sure why you quit considering how you got 2nd at the first tourney. Plus you were playing Bang so you couldn’t have gone wrong at the time.
I’m loving me some Marvel and BB right now.
I think probably only a select here can cite money as a reason for playing games. I like BB and all so i’ll continue to play it because i’m not gonna play a game I hate just at the off chance I get good enough to make money on it. Here’s hoping it doesn’t die in the month of June since i’ll be burned out of cash to go anywhere because of CEO. I remember showing up to Luckys and the Durham Gamefrog tournament, there were 3 entire instances when the game was canceled or had like 3-4 players so it was canceled anyway so again, still kinda salty about it.
100% correct. Any lag at all… even fractional, makes a difference and should not be taken seriously or tolerated in a competitive environment.
And why is that the case in NC? Why aren’t NC players good enough to win at any majors? Isn’t there some way or reason for NC players to become better if that is the situation?
I think the tournaments going on in Wilmington is a great idea and support it. I also think other players should support it as well or at least check it out first before judging. I’ve never played against any of the Wilmington players, but after playing with some of the Charlotte players I was surprised with the different level of competition that’s still within the state. I know no one wants to drive out to a lame tournament, but I’d personally like to see what kind of competition more and more people are bringing to the table.
FOR THE LAST TIME.
The reason NC doesn’t do well at majors is that NC doesn’t have out of state experience. We only play each other, for the most part, and that’s not a good way to get experience against other styles of play. There are a few that have gone to quite a few majors, and those players have a reputation for being strong even when they leave the state lines.
In GGAC, during the game’s prime, I beat asses at every major I went to and was (and still is) recognized for being the best player of my character in the country. Blake currently holds that distinction with his character. My team was one win (read: one brick wall of an on point Ky player that nobody was fucking with that day) away from qualifying for SBO. Our 3S scene was among the top in the country, with Roski, DP, Tom, Face, Ed, Javier, and myself all being threats at majors. We didn’t get to that point by staying here and only playing against each other. We traveled to where the players to beat were, and we took our losses until we could learn how to win. That’s what this state is missing right now. You have to find the comp, not expect it to find you, because if it does find you, it’s because you’re free money.
RE: The other stuff,
-I plan on giving CS2 a shot. Good netcode + nerfed IB = enough for me to try it out. I highly doubt that it will die when AE drops, since the communities don’t overlap as much as other capcom games do with each other.
-MK needs to be a 10 dollar game, ESPECIALLY if 3S is. There’s no reason I should have won less money than Tom did in a game with more entrants than the one Tom won. It’s new, and people are playing it.
-I’ll be at Elite Zone this Friday. I should have that guy who raped all of you (Aaron) with me, so if you want more rapings then show up.
I kind of think that the reason for this is because you have to spend an amazing amount of time dedicated to practice. For most people, this simply is not possible. Take this for example:
let’s just take the scenario of the PDP MK tournament. The pot was $10,000 to the winner. Even if you practiced day and night for it, and actually had won it all, that was a one-time deal. You can’t really “make a living” off of $10,000 once a year.
If I had to guess, I think the people that are winning majors are dedicating time to practice like it was their full-time job. So, to me, they are already somehow independently wealthy, or like living off of mac-n-cheese, or still live with their parents or something. Not a normal scenario for most people.
@ Matt
What time you showing up.
All of the top players have full-time day jobs except for Marn, afaik. Floe and Justin included; it’s not about practicing hard, it’s about practicing smart.
EDIT: Will, we can be there whenever. Lemme know what time is good, and that’s when we’ll show up.
Normal people cannot make a living off video games, that’s for sure. I’m pretty sure people like Marn and Justin had help from their families before they started getting cash from tournaments. I could be wrong but yeah… don’t plan on making a career out of fighting games unless you’re some sort of prodigy (and if you’re NC, you"re probably not a prodigy).
AustIn: Yeah I’d keep playing BB but they nerfed Bang and I don’t really feel like investing more time into another fighting game right now, unless someone tells me that Makoto or Valk are easy to pick up. Marvel and MK are too much fun and AE is on the horizon so I just don’t see having the time to put into it that BB requires to be competent. When I got second, BB was really the only game I was focusing on at the time.
I shouldn’t knock it though, if people enjoy it, they enjoy it. It’s whatevs. :china:
Also I’ma try to make it to Elite Zone friday. Anyone carpooling in the area?
The bulk of players show up around 6PM-10PM, I usually show up around 6PM and we usually don’t leave until like 5AM-6AM. Also good shit on bringing Aaron, definitely want to play him more.
He was playing super with Q iirc. I call him Senior Rambler[obv].
