I did as well. Had a few moments where I stopped paying attention and going down wrong exits really fast or missing turns completely. Pretty scary stuff, anyway as I mentioned above when we have more room (next time with the tables outside) we will most likely have more setups for more than just casuals which should make things run even smoother. I think it’s a little bit hard to make everybody happy though because even if we moved say MVC3 out for Tekken 6, in that event the Tekken 6 people wouldn’t be happy any more.
I thought this was very well run. I might have missed it, but the only thing I would change is letting people know the order of tournament games. That way if someone’s only entering one game, they don’t have to commit so much time. Otherwise, having the brackets out to see was awesome. Really, there’s nothing to be done about a slow tournament other than for the community to step up, bring more setups and have more people be willing to help. Props to the people who were running everything. The way the fighting game scene is nowadays, people have to get involved. It’s not like Corner Trap does this for a living.
Well I think my xbox is about to red ring real soon : (
last night in a lobby these streaks showed up in the middle of the screen and the game froze. I turned it off and back and and it started working again. This does not bode well.
again : (
Awesome tournament, was really fun, still salty about losing to the out of state players in Marvel when I know I had a chance but oh well. KEEP ON TRAININ’.
Good shit to ATL and Maryland and SC for coming out. Definitely good to see you guys supporting our tournaments.
Also Duo thanks for the ten dollars that I transitively got from Will by bodying him in our money match! lol j/k Will, that shit was fun though. I just wanted to plug my victory =P
Thanks for coming out but really, this was our first time having this many people at that venue and, while agree it sucks MVC3 started so late, I don’t think that will always be the case. It was a ridiculous number of people that came from out of state compared to usual, so next time I imagine we’ll be more prepared. IMO it should be main games first then side games but we’ll see how that goes next times. Good games in casuals none the less =)
Well Corner Trap and I had a conversation and resolved everything very quickly in a very civil manner. I look forward to our next set for sure tho, whether it be casuals again or in a tournament match
Had a blast at EZ yesterday. Was REALLY excited about the turnout of the Tekken players for sure. Don’t know the exact number of entrants, but out of all of them only 5 were faces I had seen at least once previously. Also, AH3>SSFIVAE. I’ve messed with it a couple of times before solo, but when some of the tournament players were telling me things you can do in it they just successfully recruited one more AH3 player. Would have played more casuals with others if I didn’t see Halo Reach being played. I practically main that game competitively no matter how much it upsets me sometimes.
On the note of the out of state players it was really good to see you guys. Makes me want to travel out of state more now. Its cool if you’re competing against people in state, but when its out of state everyone is against you and it just soooooo exciting to have to perform under that kind of pressure. Phenomenal job from you guys, but don’t expect next time to have the same results. NC players are just gonna level up from this, so the next time shall be just as exciting if not more.
Overall it was great seeing old faces, a blast seeing new faces, and for the most part I paid 15 bucks and got more than my moneys worth. Next time though I’m not leaving empty handed. Don’t sleep on NC.
@Corner-Trap: Concerning the Tekken indecent I would have given him the DQ after the FIRST outburst. What I saw just so happened to be his second outburst, but when I found out it was actually his second I was wondering why he wasn’t DQed after the first. That is no way to conduct yourself during a tournament and for that there should be consequences for your actions. During his match against Brian I would have given him a warning first during that one. If he doesn’t want to at least try to perform during his match I would have stopped the match and Brian declared the winner. After his first outburst during losers he would have been DQed and out of the tournament. Stuff like that just slows down a tournament too much and with other tournaments to run as well its not needed nor should be tolerated. If you want to prove yourself to be a professional gamer than first act like a professional.
P.S. Fighting games are still technically a game, so for the most part just go out and have fun. That was a big lesson I learned at EZ.
what the hell happened with this Tekken incident?
I do not know the full story, as I was outside when the end of the ’ incident ’ happened. Apparently…
Some person got really upset with something that happened in Tekken. So furious that not only did he break a controller, but he also threw a ( what looked to be expensive ) watch towards a GLASS door at the store across from the venue.
Us from SC were only outside for when the metal clang of watch met the glass door. Luckly, it didn’t break, but the recovered watch was not returned to its owner by that store’s management.
What made it all funny to me was… the fact that person in question raged… and the set wasn’t even over. It was 1 - 1
good stuff in marvel Triangle Homies
Get better TVs. I know good players will grind out and suck it up, but if you have 9-10 players who can’t dash or qcf motions not coming out, it’s a problem.
Had fun guys. It was fun playing everyone in GG and BB. Marvel was good fun to. The competition was so fierce. Shoutouts to Steve H for narrowly winning SSF4. You had no choice but to root for him since the Final Round Team Member was cheering for their guy so proudly (which they should’ve of course). Both were great players and they made a really good grand finals.
I was having execution issues too but I assumed it’s because the TVs were lagless and I’m not used to CRTs… was it something else? I figured just NO ONE was used to completely lagless TVs lol
Those TVs are just fine. You notice how none of the players in the top part of the results have complained, and how it’s always you complaining about the CRTs every single time? Take those things, and draw a conclusion from them.
Yeah man CRT’s don’t lag. Period. Good players WILL NOT grind it out and suck it up if the tvs are bad. You’re probably used to whatever HD monitor you have at home. As am I. I dropped stuff myself and my moves weren’t coming out but I don’t wanna blame the tv’s for it considering they were CRT’s. You were probably doing the inputs to soon (for example your backdashes) so your stuff probably wasn’t coming out at all.
I play on CRT at home after switching from a lagless HD setup actually. And when I was in college, all I played on was CRT. I’m going to take my losses, because I deserved to lose them, but a lot of my wins I don’t think i deserved because of how awful I played.
You should really just practice on both so you’re ready for whatever may come up. That way you can boot up you “ok I’m on a CRT” timing vs “ok I’m on an HDTV” timing when need be.
On second thought, it may be the JLFs on TEs. I don’t use a TE, so I’m not used to those yet. >_>
It’s usually the same group of players who complain about lag on CRT’s (which is a pointless complaint to begin with). I asked multiple out of state players how the setups felt and got not a single complaint.
Yo Mad Props to Will for a job well done. Fuck the haters!! All those people and all those games, shit ain’t easy. It was a great time with a lot of good comp and Hype!! People kill me, Child like outbursts and a broken toilet that we have to explain to the owner?? Come on now, with all that crazy shit the tourney was still ran smoothly and was enjoyable. Anyway,Thanks to all that drove out to EZ,I met a lot of cool people and learned a lot. I’m proud of my performance in AE and 3S, and gotta shake the dust off my GGXXAC skills. I suggest playing on CRTS at home,HD is nice but its not worth dropping combos at tourneys.I’m glad people enjoyed the small PS2 corner we had set up. But I hope next time to get abetter verity of games going on on it next time. I love 3S but don’t wanna play 500 casual 3S matches.Anyway, GG yall. Holla
