Of course I wasn’t in VA for this, but I have to say that I’ve known Robin for years and he’s never tried to dick anybody over on tournaments.
It sounds like there were some issues, and that’s unfortunate, but I can see both sides of the argument. True you didn’t play yet… but trying to give one set of people their $ back after 8 or 9 hours creates a logistical nightmare. Now you have to re-calculate pots, come out of pocket maybe, decide who gets refunded or not, etc.
It sounds like Robin did the best he could given the situation.
Like I say, I wasn’t there, but I’ve never known Robin to be anything but a stand-up guy about all of this. I have no doubt in my mind he meant anything but the best with anything he said or did (with the understanding he was probably tired and frazzled towards the end, of course). I hope everything turns out better next time.

Like CT said, if there are any serious issues just PM the TO instead of endless posts on the forums. PMing people helps diffuse a situation far better than posting it on the forums for everyone to read and comment on. This is the second time on this thread something like this has happened and as you can tell the first time was handled so well you can barely tell there was ever an issue.
On what went down with the tourney, like I said, if there was another venue I would definitely give it a shot again since everyone has good stuff to say about Robin’s tournaments. I just don’t want to have to get bodied by heat and inconsistent TVs again. Like I said before, I know tournnaments always run late so that wasn’t a complaint really, it was just the heat and me not caring about SF, on top of Blake and Tami having nothing to do while they waited for me and Jos that made me wanna leave. We were just salty about how the money thing was handled, the other stuff would have been forgiveable if it weren’t for that. I would just suggest putting “NO REFUNDS” on the tournament page so we aren’t put in that situation again.
3 of us were there from around 7:30 until 6AM. We were in the front on 2 crts payin SSF4AE. Maybe you missed us. But evereybody normally gets there around 5 or 6pm. What games do you play just MK? On another note games at my place on Thursdays seems to be working well, so all are welcome this Thursday as well. I only have 1 PS3 Set up, so yall can bring 360’s or extra TVs or whatever yall need. I got 1 PS3/2 PS2(1 import)/2 Dreacasts/ 1 PS1 (import)/1 Game Cube/and 1 PC engine,lol. I’d like to have 1 dedicated set up just for say 3S or GGXXAC. The rest can be AE, MVC3,MK or whatever. Anyway hope to see yall then. All I ask is that when yall leave help me clean up the trash and soda cans n stuff.(^o^)/
Jon, I’m sure you could have enjoyed a more comfortable venue had Robin not bothered to try and make it one big ass tournament. We’ve been there all sweaty and shit before, when some of the setups have delay, and I posted with nothing but good things to say about the time we had.
Jos, I would have probably been upset about not receiving the tournament fee back, but at Lucky’s, we kept the whole pot in a black zippered bag behind the desk, not in a safe at a restaurant/bar that has other employees and management busy serving the customers; it takes some empathizing with the situation. Couple this with the fact that nobody received a refund, and things start making more sense. He’s running the tournament at a business…“hey business, things are running poorly, please open the safe so that I can return this money” x N. Not a good look. Were you guys all on time? =p
Not knowing if this was the situation or not, but when the tournament starts becoming stressful to run (something not going right), this also happens to be the point where random people continually approach the TO and ask stupid ass questions, shifting the focus away from reorganizing to something for which you usually don’t have a clear answer for.
I just don’t understand why the situation was approached in such a confrontational manner, as opposed to a “thanks for what you did, here’s what went wrong for us, lets talk about how to improve.”

I thought the no refunds thing was standard fare. When I’ve had to leave early at Lucky’s, I’ve always refused any refund (though my situation is different in a way). I’m not saying that you should, but I honestly thought no refunds was standard and expected.
I’ll say that slow starting of tournies is a big reason why I don’t enter shit much anymore, not because of any personal dislike of the games, but because I’d be wasting my money if I don’t even get to play.
As for Dark Geese, isn’t he in a Mexico City Hospital trying to get a blood transfusion to get the American blood outta his veins?
It was an extension of being upset at how I was spoken to in person by Robin, but whatever this horse has been beaten to death, revived and then beaten to death again already.

That was never me trying to be in good standing with some TO. The “I” isn’t trying to enforce any sort of holier than thou attitude but rather that I’ve experienced the situation from both sides and I didn’t bitch so I’m better than you.
Yo I’m the shit and played third strike a couple of years before yall got into the scene so my opinion is the correct one. I’ve done everything, replaced sleep with coffee so I can get up and power walk and then read success books on being awesome. Props to random old third strike players. That said, still shitty. No refunds are standard, but when the tournament is advertised to start at 2, you expect some lateness with it maybe starting at 3-4. Maybe your first match won’t be til like 4:30. But 10? That’s a bit extinuating. I know I wouldn’t be pissed if I didn’t get a refund. But I would be pissed if EIGHT HOURS AFTER THE TOURNEY STARTED I HADN’T PLAYED ONE MATCH and despite this I didn’t get a refund despite a “set in stone” policy. What is TOing part of a corporation now? “Sorry, it’s the way things are done”? Did Jon/Jos get a customer service number for an apology from a guy witha headset reading from a pamphlet? I get the concept but seriously. 8 hours. Especially after the stuff Matt said about casuals/money matches from the TO in the middle of this clusterfuck.
