North Carolina Players XXIV: What's in your SF4 syllabus?

Man, fuck the tourney at Lucky’s! I just want to see how everyone stacks up against each other, lose of win don’t fucking matter. Since we’re all babies to this game it’s gonna be mad fun, like those amature boxing fights where they swung in all direction. We’re all scrubs on Sat. may the best scrub wins. Oh yeah, what’s the sidebet situation on Matt/Jeff’s “Who’s my bitch!?” event? How many people betting who, and how much?

A number of things;

 1. Its 11 frames, which is more than twice as fast as any of the normal messiah kicks
 2. The 3 followups make it damn hard to punish for some characters
 3. It’s one of like 987873456082 ways Rufus has to land SOS (ultra)
 4. It’s invincible, and is useful both on defense and on offense
 5. It’s a Rufus move, which makes it good by default
 6. It has a cool name

he can also be grabbed out of scissor kicks and (of course) regular psycho crusher. also he can be interrupted pretty easy during the start-up of lk scissors by just about ANYTHING!! shit’s mad annoying when you’re tryin to bait someone to poke after a lk scissors to get a CH and you do another only to get standing jabbed out of it.

P.S. also found out last night that you can SPD Raging Demon!!!
P.S.S. Agent_Chaos -

Yeah, I know I oversimplified the way black screen works in CvS2, but because no one ever uses level 1 Tiger Raid, I figured everyone knew what I was talking about.

Q: Regarding SPDing demon, is that super or ultra version?

I’m still trying to learn the timing for AA demon. Playing Akuma is rough, you can’t mess up at all.

Blake, at Sinsation Justin had a really nice AA demon setup.

Full/Mid-screen Hado XX FADC then:

If they jump over the fireball, AA Demon

If not, throw another hado for pressure.

I don’t think he was buffering the demon inputs during the dash either, because the one time he landed it he actually whiffed a jab after the dash (meaning he put the whole super after the dash was over).

I don’t know how practical it is, but it was definitely cool.

Interesting. Main problem I have is that I often get hit out of AA demon. Sam gave me the impression it doesn’t work well against attacks coming directly above.

Yo that EX hop with Sak is nasty. I forgot to tell you about that DP cause I only used her when running through arcade mode for the characters.

Also curious about blackscreen. I have a feeling just from random match happenings that inputs are accepted.

How good is the demon invincibility? Assuming it counts as a grab, you can definitely grab someone landing who is just holding up. I’m unsure if the start of a jump is invincible to throws though, and curious about how long it takes characters to land and then leave the ground.

I definitely empty jumped at DP and blocked low and his Sak ultra was blocked.

I would imagine you just need to do the demon as late as possible. Try crouching while doing it. I’m not sure if going from down-forward to down-back counts as the directional input in SF4 like it does in 3S, but that should help if it does.

Tripguard exists in this game. If you had attacked, you would have eaten the ultra.

AA demon is mad easy. You have to do it late, or you’ll get stuffed, but basically just make them land in it and they’re fucked.

Cool, I’ll have to mess around with that. Need to try out some other characters too. Shotos are fun, but I get tired of playing what are basically slightly different versions of the same character. Figure I might as well just stick to Akuma or Ryu and try out some other characters. Matt, got any recommendations?

Well yeah I realized trip guard is there. I wonder if you empty jump into a demon if you can get away holding up. It may be like 3rd, where at the right distance, if you’re not jumping already, you’re fucked then too.

Blake, why no Blanka? That fucker seems goooooood. Seems more CVS2 style than ST style though. Ryu seems like 3S Ken in that he can do everything in the game and is a perfect example of the system and mechanics, but not *quite *number 1.

Nope. There’s startup to it, but that startup is invincible, so if you’re jumping, you’re eating it.

Blake, Ken seems really Blakeish. Great rushdown, kara throw goodness, EX tatsu resets…oh, and FIRE. Blanka is excellent too. Just about everyone is good, tho, cept for the 3 i mentioned earlier.

Ah yes, it seems like every Blanka post-ST seems lame to me. Still, I have yet to give him a real shot in this game so that’ll be on the agenda for tonight.

Blake - um can’t remember I think it was the super that got SPD’d, but yeah, like they’re saying, just use demon to AA or punish someone whiffing some stupid shit, and if that shit goes through projectiles.

THIS. Matches I win with Akuma I’m like yeah I’m the shit they didn’t touch me! But…the other ones are like hey I had a lead and then made a mistake and lost like 60%…awesome. I never ever ever ever ever ever uppercut unless I have 2 meters or in an anti air situation. It’s just too risky.

As for another character for you, I agree that Ken fits your style. You could also play Fei because he’s all “hey I’m Kenshiro”.

A more correct comparison would’ve been, “Hey guys I’m Bruce Lee.”

On another note. Abel. That is all.

Oh yeah, regarding Ken, check this: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=178036

Best thread ever. SHORTO FTW.

Honestly, Fei seems too one-dimensional, even though he’s a cool character. I would play Cammy but she’s just…so bad. All of her shit functions incorrectly.

I dunno, man. He quotes Kenshiro like, verbatim on his entrance quote.

Hate to sound like a broken record but…
