North Carolina Players XXIV: What's in your SF4 syllabus?

Yo Darrel, can you bring my thumb drive to the tournament please?

I see what you did there. -_O

I’ll just leave this here.

hahahahah it’s so true. “knocked down” -> “is he close?” yes -> SHORYUKEN no -> fuck it -> SHORYUKEN

So tonight, street fighter 4 knew what was up. I did ranked match -> custom match -> search parameter “more skilled opponent”. Results?

NO OPPONENTS WERE FOUND. Yeah…damn straight.

Also, it’s fitting the background for online is a picture of Ken. It lets you know who your next opponent is gonna be, and what move he’s gonna be doing.

Great stuff, this. If only the ultra did a little bit more damage.

Bison (dictoator)'s ex-psychocrusha can be thrown on start up in close distance, just so y’all nazi head will know and use that shit wisely. SF4 just gave me the first bullshit with that last night, i need to know more…

Looks like I’m back to maining Honda :wgrin:

Yeah Jibbs, all of that stuff is great, but when you take half life with Cr. Fierce XX Ultra with Abel, it all just kind of pales in comparison.

Also, my bnb for Sakura right now is cr.short, cr. jab, cr. jab, cr. strong XX Fierce Shoryu or lk. Hurricane (Which you can link another cr. fierce XX whatever after) or EX Hurricane Kick.

Seriously, lk. Hurricane is the best thing ever. bnb XX lk hurricane, cr. fierce XX EX Hurricane, Sakura Otoshi does like 30% and tons of stun.

James has all sorts of Sak tricks with EX Hurricane resets goin on. Also, you can do her bnb with low short, low jab, low fierce XX upper/hurricane, it’s not too hard and does good damage.

Seriously, every character I used to think was ass boring is really fun in this game (Honda, Blanka, Chun, etc.). I really enjoy the variety present in each character.

Yeah, if I make it I will. KOF 2002UM is too FIRE! If you can pull yourself away from SFIV for ah sec and try it out, you wont be disappointed.

Face: Welcome to a character that has more utility than damage intake and output.

Oh I think her ultra can be treated like an AA. I’ve done it once and it worked so I’m just kinda throwing that out there as an idea. I have no idea how solid or consistent that would be.

Thanks Darrell!

Edit: Blake! I got your ipod and I’ll get it to you this saturday.

Double Edit: After playing with Alex, Phil, Des, Peter and PaulZ last night, my point of view on the top 3 has… teeter tottered? Is that the word I’m looking for? In any case…

SFIV will be SO HYPE! Get “SEAREIOUSE” NC!

I need to test some other stuff with Sakura’s ultra also. I don’t know if you’re able to react to it after the black screen. Because “black screen” in SF4 doesn’t actually stop time. Basically, I want to know if it is like CvS2, where if you aren’t blocking low before the “black screen”, can you still block, or is it a guaranteed hit. If she had her divekick and you couldn’t block, whiff divekick, Ultra would be awesome.

From what I’ve observed so far, every ultra has some sort of startup after the black screen. For example, Ryu’s ultra. If you’re standing still and he throws it out, you can jump forward and avoid it.

She doesn’t have the dive kick, but she has neutral jump roundhouse! It’s really good as a meaty wake-up option. Low forward shoryu if it hits.

Also, I forgot to mention how awesome her standing roundhouse. Roundhouse and forward beat a lot of low footsie.

Shoryu . .ken

Face- my understanding of how ultras work in this game is this: As the screen zooms in on the character that performed the ultra the other player is free to make inputs. This means that as long as you didn’t happen to have a move out you can still block low. You can also try to beat things out, like if Boxer ultras in my face I can mash out EX shouoken and beat his ultra out clean. I learned this stuff off of one of the gootecks podcasts, but I forgot which one and it seems to have worked in every situation I have tried so far.

It’ll be fun having sakura battles with everyone. And it’ll be good to talk to other people about some match ups and things too. The real question is what color Sak are yall playing?!?!!? I got dibs on color #6

Thanks DP, I have missed my iPod greatly. =(

SF4 is gonna be so hype, I anticipate hella upsets.

That’s not exactly how it works in CvS2.
In CvS2 each level of super has a number of “freeze frames” where the opposing players cannot make any inputs. 3 frames for Level 1, 5 frames for Level 2, and 7 frames for Level 3.
These # of freeze frames are universal for every character and every super in the game.
For example, Sagat’s low-hitting Tiger Raid and Yamazaki’s grab super have 4 frames of start-up for every level.
Therefore, as long as you aren’t the midst of start-up or recovery frames from an attack (that can’t be canceled) you can ALWAYS, on reaction to the super freeze, hold DB to block Level 1 Tiger Raid or hold U to jump out of Yamazaki’s Level 1 super grab.
For Level 2 or higher, you can’t because 5 freeze frames > 4 start-up frames.
This is why you often see Sagats even at high-levels Level 2/3 Tiger Raid on reaction to seeing their opponents stand up.

As for SF4, I believe you’re right in that there are no freeze frames after the “time stop” (there is only 1 frame of start-up before the time stop when the Ultra cinematic begins but I don’t know if you’re counted as “frozen”).
Something that helped me understand this was Viscant’s excellent explanation of Blanka’s Ultra in the SF4 Blanka forums. It’s entirely possible for Blanka’s ultra to “hit” and shock his opponent but for them to be able to recover and block if they’re too far away.

This just in!..

I was messing around in training mode and I was wondering what the difference between EX- otoshi and regular otoshi. They do the same damage but EX heat seeks, so if someone throws a fireball even at fullscreen…

LOLOLOLOLOLOL sakura donkey kong punch x3

EDIT: Oh my god. Full screen fireball combo’s into EX-Otoshi. Let’s play Zone SFIV! Don’t focus my fireballs plzkthx.

Also, the best focus dash follow ups I’m finding are

Lv2Focus (or lv1 if it’s counter hit) > Dash > Fierce > short hurricane > crouching fierce > then:

  • EX- hurricane if you want resets, ultra, or otoshi

  • Roundhouse hurricane if don’t have meter or don’t want to burn meter

  • Fierce shoryken for a knockdown (does less damage than roudhouse hurricane)

ooooorrrrrrrrrr on some characters. smiles at Sam

Short Hurricane > Standing short: then same as above. Does more damage and gives more meter. :lovin:

If you do the combo to this extent, you are gaurenteed to have EX meter so long as your bar is greater than having no meter. In other words, the combo up to the last standing short gives you nearly one full bar. KNOWLEDGE!

On a lot of characters, you can actually do another short hurricane then > stand short > whatever.

yo austin i will bring your game

hey i got a question what makes ex messiah kick so good
