North Carolina Players XXIV: What's in your SF4 syllabus?

Honda really doesn’t appeal to me in this version as much. The HHS seems so much smaller…he just seems so much smaller, and dumpier.

And for some reason, I can shoryuken in this version alot easier than in HD Remix…thought it was my stick in Remix, but I think the windows of opportunity are larger in IV.

It’s cause you’re a 3S player. 3S will always be better in my eyes. I’m gonna still practice the shit out of Makoto.

lol hardly. That’s like…half of NC lol. You need me, Blake, James, the Marvel guys if they play, Eddie, whoever’s left in Durham/Greenville/Fayetteville and Shiki.

I haven’t got my copy of the game yet, so I’m still undecided. I was hype about playing Rose until I saw everybody else jumping on her. Maybe Cammy since I play her in ST.

Man…if we don’t have at least a 32 man bracket at Lucky’s, I’m going to be pissed.

Majors: Rose, Ken, Cammy

I’ll be working at BB in Greensboro that day, but I get off at 5 so I’m good to go.

PS: This weekend is another auction in Winston for those that want to know. Not that I need any more candy, but I WANT MORE!!!

It’s going to depend on what time it starts and such. Not going to go in to work a mid on 2 hours sleep.

Perhaps you should dump the extra crap and just have SF4 and the SC4 regional, that may be all you have time/space for.

Yeah…I thought about that too. SF4 will probably take a while given the assumed lesser amount of hardware and nobody knowing wtf they’re doing yet, and I dunno how many are going to be there for Calibur but I wouldn’t expect more than like, 20.

So I think we could get away with 3S and GG still, if things run smoothly. We do need some practice for FR in all our main games. I wouldn’t mind playing CvS too, but I’m sure Alex knows best here man because…he does. And it’s his shit anyway yo.

AY whats up everybody, im playing sagat, and abel and I will slap cajunstrike and take his dual shock three.

I need help:sad:

I need a converter for my ps2 stick. I hear a lot about lag and I know some of you have converters. I know the pelican is a no go since it is sold out.

Also Ryucross the stick you made for me, does it have a ps1 or ps2 pcb and was it digital. Certain converters seem to be specific to the pcb.

My thumb hurts playing on pad:sad:

Also it looks like Abel and Rose for me.

Didn’t the last SC4 regional held at Lucky go over 32?

I’d expect just as many this time.

I’d say just run those four games, and hold off on the other stuff. I think we need all the hardware we can get for this.

I know what you mean. I’ve never seen a smaller and more punishable Butt Slam in all my years of Honda.

I guess my main problem is trying to play this game too much like ST. That, and wasting meter, and not having the patience for Ultra turtle-fests.
It just feels like everybody I liked before feels gimped, stiff and weird in this version. Like they REALLY nerfed the range of everybody except the shotos, Sagat, and Chun. Which is who I guess 90% of people are going to end up using.
I couldn’t even anti-air with Rose’s cr.HP…which is really sad, although it’s most likely my own problem with using it.
Damage is low, range is nerfed, and a lot more stuff is unsafe even without parry so this is going to be another game where people are going to sit around and wait for the other player to make a mistake, especially with the constant threat of Ultras. It’s almost like Exceeds from SvC Chaos again.

I’ll try to learn Abel, but it’s frustrating. Dude has slow, weird normals with virtually no range, and if there’s anything that sucks about playing with a grappler, it’s when they have slow, short, low priority normals (2I Hugo, 97/98 Shermie). He doesn’t help that his grab has less range than Honda’s.
Dan doesn’t seem bad, just that he has to work harder. I’ll also play him, Honda, and Rose.

The SRK shortcut is also frustrating. They made it way too forgiving to get out a DP instead of a fireball. At least it’s not as bad as in TvC where you crouch-block and someone jumps over your head…

Abel, Dan, Ryu, Viper. I love the way capcom imported Ramon and named him el fuerte.

Digital PS1 board I’m fairly certain.

And you can take me off the character list for now. Until I get some quality time with this game, I have no idea who I’m playing.

Ditto. This is the first time in years I’ve had a fighting game that enchants me so much that I’ll gladly play it single player for hours. I have zero clue who I’m going to play at this point, although it will likely be a Shoto (lololol). Capcom has managed to make almost every single character in this game look appealing.

Shawn, buy an InPin converter from Laugh in the trading forum. They’re cheap and REALLLYYY good.

Shiki: Yeah, a lot of stuff is unsafe if used in the wrong way, as usual, random specials probably get you killed. Honda does feel reallllllllyy shitty, and I personally would have preferred they keep the game pretty high damage, but it’s all good. You can still take 40% in a combo with some character, sometimes more when you have an ultra / meter. I’m just used to Fierce into rekkas doing half life, lol.

Also try using focus attack more, it’s really versatile with the dash canceling, might help your offense a bit.

I understand what you mean, but I’m not even talking about random specials.

Abel’s close LP is -3(WTF), which means you can be thrown by having your JAB blocked.
Also, Chun’s NORMAL throw has greater range than Abel’s HP Tornado. I don’t even want to think about Ken’s kara throw.

And not to turn this into a “Whine and bitch about how shitty Abel is” topic, but he has the SLOWEST crouching LP in the game (tied with Fuerte), the SLOWEST Ultra in the game (by a good margin) and his Ultra doesn’t even have mid-level invincibility (except to projectiles)…and even THEN his Ultra invincibility ends before he attacks.
Compare that to someone like Bison, who also has a relatively slow Ultra but has full-invincibility and lasts until a few frames AFTER it hits.

Abel’s close LP chains to other stuff, so wtf to anybody that gets thrown; that’s your fault, not the character. He has the tools to confirm his ultra (which, btw, is the only reason most characters should use them; once they KNOW FOR A FACT that it’s going to hit) off of a low forward, along with a dash cancel off of his towards+forward which links to close fierce for more combo/pressure goodness. Abel is scary as hell.

Yeah basically, day 1-2 impressions aren’t usually good. Evaluate your character after you understand all their tools.

I’m not gonna say how I think fei is because right now I don’t fully understand all his properties. He’s fun to me. How good he is I don’t know.

Except for the fucking crazy ass focus attack. His is broke.
