So I had this awesome dream the other night. Another Vegas/slot machine type thing, but this time the machine is like a hybrid of a…pinball and ski ball game, only thing is the pinballs are Chic-Fil-A chicken nuggets. So you pull back the plunger thing, nugget shoots up and goes into a ski ball hole and I gets MONAH
Nope. I don’t think anybody will be able to tell it’s survivability until after Evo though. I think it’s biggest problem is that people don’t have access to it. Then there’s some who could play it, but don’t want to take the time to deal with all the brokenness. I’m in a bit of both worlds.
Blehck… I just don’t like games where one character has no chance against the other. When I saw Gief vs Claw at the NC state gathering, it really turned me off from HDR… not to mention laggy tournaments at Sinsation. But at least in 3rd strike the low tier characters can beat the high, they just have to work their ass off. In HDR the high tier can’t beat the other high tier! …and Street Fighter IV looks really good, but I just don’t feel the excitement when I see it played in tournaments. I think Mr.Quotes said it right at Sinsation, referring it to “Street Fighter Golf”. But SF4 will probably change a lot over the course of time.
The thing is, in HDR, there’s reason to learn the low tier chars- they have some matchup advantages. Cammy has some matches that are heavily in her favor, as does Fei Long. The low tier chars in 3s tended to suck against everybody, so no point.
The thing is, if Gief vs Claw happens, you lose you go to Blanka, you counter the Blanka with ken, etc. It’s like tennis where you try to break the other guy’s serve. This is also why learning the bad matchups is important.
ST isn’t meant to be a one game environment SBO-style, it’s meant for US-style tournies.
As for SF4 and it killing off games. I think the only games that will be hurt are other SF games.
Also, alternative fighters like Melty and KOF will suffer- KOF especially, as SF4 appeals to SNK-types more then any other Capcom fighter I can think of.
I don’t think GG or 3D genres will be affected at all.
Blanka really isn’t that advantageous against Claw…the only thing that match-up ensures is that claw won’t be walldiving any…Claw can own blanka on the ground imo.
As popular SF4 is going to be I don’t see it killing “alternative fighters” such as MB and AH (Can’t speak for the KOF series) mainly because they (MB/AH players) tend to be, more or less, open to play other fighters w/o neglecting their “main” game. I can only see this happening if your community/game is on its last leg and there’s absolutely no chance in their being a new.
Now I don’t follow SNK that much, but aren’t KOF2k2UM and KOFXII supposed to be released on consoles sometime this year and they’re pretty big in the KOF community? So I really don’t see how SF4 can take away the hype that players from other communities have for their newer games.
Don’t worry about me stopping TVC. If people keep playing, I will too. Same with 3rd, same with CVS2, same with GGAC (sorta), etc etc. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to be all over 4 though like white on .
Well, in that case- I can see Melty continuing. It’s dojin-style not traditional-style for SF4 would be a complement not a substitute anyways.
As for SNK fans, KOFs tend to be different enough that people have heavy preferences. For example, I love 98UM and think it’s a top-3 game of all time, but I gag at other KOFs. I’ll give 2k2UM a shot, but to me, there’s only so much you can polish a turd. KOF XII I’ll judge on its own merits, but I’m pessimistic- as the new SNK hasn’t given me that much love.
I expect to enjoy SF4 a lot more then any future SNK fighter, unless they make a new Fatal Fury.
