First 2 weeks of May are finals at NCState.
SSF4, Tekken 6, MK and AH3 at tonight’s gathering was good stuff. Although I didn’t participate in MK, looks pretty fun though.
Edit: Also wtf no promotion going on for Luckys or the Charlotte tournament? I don’t see a thread for either of them although personally i’d rather just make the elite zone tournament and save the rest of the cash for CEO 2011.
Yo good games at EZ yesterday! nice turn out and scene support, word! GGXXAC,SFZ3, 3S, SSF4, MVC3!! Real nice. Thanks to Everybody who played. I learned a lot. looking foward to more matches. oh and late nite with Kevin in CVS2!!lol I’m in full support of tourneys at EZ. yall, doin good work. Keep it up. Now that I got cats to polay with my game play is soaring. Gotta get my Balrog and Ryu back in gear in SSF4. Thanks too everybody who showed up. Great group of sports men. Holla
Do you want me to make a tournament thread for EZ or do you want to do it yourself.
We evolved past sleeping awhile ago, catch up.
You should still be able to make the EZ tournament since we’re trying to host it on the 21st.
@austinb03 / HooD NiNja
There are sessions at NC State pretty much every Saturday.
Just thank Kevin for everything, he started playing again and in like 2 weeks the entire Fayetteville scene was revived. Also apparently we play every fighting game under the sun at our sessions so that should be more reason for out of town players to come.
RE: Tournaments
Glad to see 3 tournaments in one month to make up for the dry period NC has been having.
RE: New thread
Whoever makes the new thread please be sure to keep all the sessions and tournaments updated on the first post.
MK was fun tonight but it’s still ass. Fun ass.
Got a reason it’s ass?
Yeah, that’s lame as hell. Capcom’s been really shitty with gouging lately between stuff like this and Marvel. Eventually there comes a point where you just to say I’m not putting up with this crap anymore.
Question: for MK, is the tourney standard going to be 1 on 1 or tags? I’m trying to put some work into that right now.
Also, for Arcana, does anyone actually use Dorothy or is she considered to be useless?
Given MK’s track record, the burden of proof definitely needs to be on you people. What makes this game any good?
I can kind of agree to this, i’ve played most of the MK games except for this new one. Although it looks kinda fun and the fatalities are intense i’m not sure how I feel about some of the combos Brandino found last night (50%ish) unless of course that’s standard for MK at higher levels and in that case then ok.
Hey guys. I just wanted to let everyone know that I will NOT be hosting tomorrow or next Monday. I have some big finals coming up, and I’m going to be leaving my 360 at a friend’s house until then so I can study better.
High level UMK3 players bust 60% in vids I’ve seen. From what I understand a lot of MK games are broken because of infinite blockstun (?) combos, and since normals do chip on block… Yeah.
Semi related…
Is it worth it to play MK9 on an MK styled stick?
Just play it on a PS3 pad.
No, it’s not.
The game feels more like an old school fighter than anything that’s come out since SF4. You have a diverse cast with all styles represented, and there’s no game mechanic that gets you out of blockstun; if you block the beginning of a string, you have to block the rest of it. There are lots of other reasons, but honestly, I don’t care whether or not any individual player plays it. It’s getting played regardless, and you can either try it out and learn it, or sit on the sidelines.
Well a lot of my problems with it are the design of characters, the similar move sets between the cast, and just the stiff, awkward gameplay. A lot of characters don’t even have the tools they need to open someone else up. Characters without lows outside of sweeps which are unsafe, and people that don’t even have overheads, much less ones you can combo off of.
The designs are really uninspired, and seriously, a lot of characters movesets are practically the same, or atleast 80% similar. It feels like tekken without sidestep and the hugely diverse moveset. And seriously, it’s not the 90’s anymore… they could have redesigned some of the characters, we don’t need 10 recolorings of the same character. 3/5 females in the game use THE EXACT SAME MODEL. There is no variation between the body types. There’s also like what… how many pallete swap ninjas?
The gameplay just doesn’t feel deep to me. It’s actually fun against other people but shit< I have fun playing things like that GC Naruto fighter and shit so I’m not too picky. I just don’t see it having much of a competitive life span.
@Jon: Most of those sound like you have a problem with the aesthetics. I was never a fan of MK, but back when I played it as a kid I liked how Sub-Zero and Scorpion were the same guy. They still have different defining features (like Ken and Ryu). Ken and Ryu got real minor variations, and those were generic evil versions, or generic younger versions.
Everyone (from what ive seen) can open up the opponent with stuff like unblockables, throws, and even fireballs.
And CYBER-fuckin-SUB-ZERO aughhh so cool
Idk imaa try it out. Looks really interesting.
Freakin’ tornado throws haha. The tips were definitely good, but no one plays a3 anymore for me to actually work on using the stuff
I live in Wilmington as well bro. PM a phone number so we can get some games in.
@Sean: I still think a3 is crack so whenever you’re on facebook let me know. I gotta brush up on my trash vhonda anyway LOL
Quick question, what’s considered good damage for a BnB combo in MK? 25%?
Trying to see if the character I’m playing has some potential or if I should junk for someone better.
lol kk gotcha bro
You went from ‘this is why the game is interesting’ to ‘I don’t even give a fuck’. This is unique spin on the old hard sell.
