It’s a smash session but a lot of other fighting games go on as well. I’m not sure exactly what but I know mvc3 will be there and probably BB and ssf4.
I see no point in playing super now since both my mains are getting char-changing buffs/nerfs
Last time we gathered there was a lot of MvC3, Blazblue, and Melee, but yeah, I guess this will be mostly a Smash session, but a lot of the Smashers play MvC3 and I play Blazblue, SSFIV, MvC2, and HDR and Sneak is mega-legit. Hopefully we can get some confirmation that Austin and Ian will be there, but I don’t think Ian posts ever soo… idk.
Wait… are you that one really good Hazama/Ragna guy who liked to complain about Blazblue? I LIKE COMPLAINING TOO!
Also, Porter, I thought you used Viper or something.
I think you misunderstood, I’m not saying the mixup isn’t there, I just think the slow speed of the dash makes it easier to block. Dante can do the same kind of mixup with his airdash, except he’s about 10 billion times faster than Zero.
I was talking less about Wesker vs Zero and more [Wesker against the rest of the cast] vs [Zero against the rest of the cast]. If you want to just talk the matchup straight, I don’t think Zero has the advantage. People forget Wesker has counters. It’s one thing if it’s a blind guess, but if you’re flying around spamming saber to control space, it becomes pretty easy for Wesker to Tiger Uppercut or Rhino Charge and ruin your life. You can do H Tiger Uppercut against projectiles, so errant level 3 Buster isn’t a good idea either (people always get shocked when this happens, btw). All it takes is one counter to inject that level of hesitation, to make you wait to attack, and then every time you jump at Wesker, you end up putting yourself in a mixup because suddenly your baseline strategy to condition your opponent isn’t as viable.
Marn runs Zero second, actually. He uses Zero to take advantage of DHC trick with Magneto for big damage. Of course, he pretty much never calls Zero assist either, probably because Zero’s assists are doodoo unless you have Sogenmu active.
If you wanna discuss the characters with assists, Wesker is still better, IMO. His combos don’t improve as much as Zero’s do, but his mixups get even scarier, and that’s all that really matters with Wesker. It is nice to be able to combo level 3 late in a combo without using XFC, though; Wesker builds so much meter that he often is at liberty to KO a character whenever he wants.
Just check the Wesker forums, there’s a whole thread dedicated to his mixups that Viscant started. Basic mixup off of OTG Samurai Edge is airthrow or jump up with L and start air loop. If they guess right and block air loop, you get to do an extremely dirty and easy mixup with command grab or crouch L/M.
That would be me.
ps Blazblue is trash.
Yo, It’s almost Friday. What’s going on in Greensboro and Raleigh this weekend? Anything interesting?
ps blazblue is poopy, i agree.
It’s not Smash-exclusive anymore. Come on down if you live nearby.
I must say after watching Viscant’s Wesker last night I’m more inclined to agree with Blake. The team was Wesker/IM/Pheonix and I’d say about 80% of the time Pheonix never entered the match. Pretty impressive shit.
Well I’m down with picking up MvC3 seriously if there are people to play against and I’ll just play SSFIV to get acquainted with the fundamentals of the game until AE comes out. I’m hoping Tekken will pick up more in NC when TTT2 hits stores and will have to find someone to game session with for AH. Sucks I missed out on all the Melty Blood action prior.
Tekken hype in NC thread generally goes: 90% of the people in thread say they’re going to really get into the new Tekken when it comes out.
New Tekken comes out, those people get stomped, and stop playing after about a month.
Repeat cycle 2-3 years later when next Tekken comes out.
Gathering at state saturday
If you ever wanna play Tekken 6/AH3/SSF4 i’ll play although I dunno where we’d play lol. I play Steve in T6 though which turns some people off, i’m not all that great but I love the game, i’ve actually been teaching a friend how to play. I know some people enter it at the gamefrog tournaments.
So is Marvel.
But they’re both really fun, so yeah…(BB its fun if you play the right character, Marvel may go the same way maybe)
This
I’m not going to be able to make the drive to fayetville tonight, 3 hrs of driving just isn’t possible with my schedule this weekend sadly. I’ll be at state tomorrow though.
Sweet, i’ll see ya tomorrow then and i’ll be recording matches as always. I’ll be playing DAT AH3.
I disagree with this entire statement. Marvel is GDLK when Phoenix isn’t involved.
Thanks capcom for patching out caps infinite, there were so many cap players abusing it i didn’t know what to do. I cant wait for the next patch…
If it takes you 3 hours to get to Fayetteville from Cary I may have to show you a better route, it only takes me about 45 minutes.
Are you going to the NC State session on Saturday? Cause I may need a ride. David’s GF wants him to hang out on Saturday so he’s not sure if he can make it.
EDIT:
Ow well in that case I takes me about 1:30 to make it back and forth from Fayetteville to the Triangle area. As for the patching it’s really killing my interest in MvC3. I actually like the idea of patching as long as the developer announces release dates and patch notes, which are pretty bare bones things to ask. If Capcom continues going done this path I’ll probably drop MvC3 as my main game but still continue to play it since I see myself doing well in tournaments for it.
Patches = Good
No announcement for release dates or patch notes = Bad
It takes roughly an hour and thirty minutes according to google maps so i’m pretty sure he’s just saying 3 hrs total of driving not 3 hours to get there which would then mean 6 hours of driving.
Also hoping you can make it to the state session so I can get some info on how elite zone is.
I’m also curious as to how the MVC3 community feels about all this patching. Honestly I thought people liked Marvel for how ridiculous it is, the zero glitch made sense, that was a game killing glitch after all but not so much an infinite like Captain Americas.
Phoenix is obviously not a problem, but Captain America is!
