Wow rocket raccoon is awesome, he’s such an asshole. The win pose where he holds a knife to the camera is godlike.
Gonna get tired of ROCKET-ROCKET-ROCKET SKATES though.
Also, log trap looks fucking amaaaaaaazing.
Re: Franks level up, it looks like it makes his normals bigger. Like when he levels up he uses different weapons and shit, eventually they get pretty huge hitboxes. He doesn’t look that great still but ehh, whatevs. 2 Joke characters at the end of the reveals is interesting.
If I recall he was the 4th best on the tier list but him and Rachel I was pretty hard pressed to find any players for except at the higher levels of play which I assume is because of the skill required to play those two so much respect to you and Matt for managing it. Also fun fact was that yesterday was Rachel’s “Birthday” lol
None taken. I understand how it can be frustrating in both not being able to make it to sessions and having people ignore you when trying to get info on a session. Bryan is in Raleigh, but its usually Tekken although last time he did have some 3S and other games. Ling is in Cary, but if you can make it out there its well worth the drive. There’s some guys on State campus that play as well on Saturdays. There’s games going on, its just that it sucks here in NC due to people being so far from each other. But again you’re gonna have to check through the posts for some of them. Good luck and later bro.
Yo pimpmuffin07 and Daidoji Kage, I’m open to try and play some games if you’re looking for players. I usually play Tekken and trying to get on some 3S. Pretty much down for anything for the most part, but definitely would love to play some Alpha 3 sometime. Gonna be on KOFXIII for sure when that comes out and looking at Ultimate as well.
Never heard that term before. Aren’t they usually called rail shooters?
It’s been a minute since I’ve been to EZ but just a heads up I’ll be there this week and I’m bringin Ryu back. Didn’t realize you guys started doin ranbats, I’m definitely in for that!
Porter, if you ever wanna get some offline sessions going just hit me up. I know another guy in town that plays too that’s been looking to get beat on by someone besides me. If you’re interested PM me with what your schedule’s like and maybe we can work out some good days to make fights.
Yea we used to call them shooters right. Side scrolling shooters, I’m not used to all these new terms n stuff, lol. I remember the old terms Shooters/Platformers/beat em ups/Fighting Games, not(Fighters)/Neck kick or cross up, not(Cross over??), Two in one and Buffer not (Canceling). Moves and techniques were good, not (Strong??). Why change all of these just seems silly. I think due to the internet and flow of information cats like to sound cool and or Japanese by using said words. As a result the US gaming community has lost a lot of its original character IMO. With the death of Arcades it really doesen’t help any…
I like Gradius and R-type over Ikaruga, Ikaruga’s scoring system pissed me the fuck off. For real though check out these shmups for PC: Ether Vapor(fun/pretty), Hellsinker(difficult/complicated), maybe check out touhou 9.5 or 12.5 for weird as hell shmup with pokemon snap stuff, it is really good for pick up and play for 5 minutes or so. For good scoring systems I still don’t think PCB has been beat though Great Fairy Wars was pretty close.
Yeah it’s a shame but we are just the next generation to be around long enough to see all of our shit around us change Wait till were 40 and 50, I wonder what we will be calling things then?
I remember back in my day where we actually played with our hands OUR HANDS, now a days you kids and your fancy brain readers you just have to think about doing something and boom it comes out.
I always just called them shooters, and I called FPS games FPS. But someone coined the term “shmups” and a couple of people put “shumps” instead. That’s all.
Also, (Alice-chan/Zamuel/me/someone else?) were talking about game design a few pages back, or another topic, or whatever. Aside from all the jokes, this video I agree with 110%: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FpigqfcvlM
He pretty much shares my exact mentality, and in this video he is capable of getting my beliefs across better than I can. Even showing me things I hadn’t considered to make me appreciate it even more.
Hey Shinso, I wannna try some of those shooter I’m just not big on Moe and stuff like that, I like robots or space ships in my shooters. But you know what I will embrace change for a change and try new things.lol:D
I know 360 has all the tight shooters on it. Anybody know where I can go to mod 360s?? I wanna be able to play Japanese and American games when I get one.
He’s interesting but as with most ‘insiders’ he’s unable to get over his own nostalgia in some key ways. For instance, older games that didn’t really explain stuff to you versus new games that do. You could pretend this is an issue of respecting the players intelligence or catering to the lowest common denominator, but this is an inherently emotional argument. It’s arguing from a place of ‘i dont like the way things are now’ not ‘why are things truly this way’.
Isn’t it far more likely that games ‘back then’ evolved from arcade games which ran on a game to game basis and didn’t quite want you to figure things out? They wanted it to surprise you so you’d lose and have to try it again, the fact that it made the game playing experience rewarding was a bonus-- but then we began to like that or treat it as the norm, we talk about games in terms of a ‘challenge’ it seems-- we gamers in our mid twenties and thirties now have an intense respect for games that keep you on your toes, but this is ignoring the fact that the next generation didn’t have that platform as their base.
Many gamers now speak of single players games in terms of wanting an experience, wanting to be ‘immersed’.They want to pretend as if they’re in the game, things which we might consider challenges or ‘good design’, many very validly now interpret as obstacles to their immersion. So designers have started ‘casualising’ games. That’s why games like flower (Which have no active lose/win mechanic) and noby noby boy now have a market. I feel that measuring all games against a metric that we simply have a personal bias for is inherently kind of stifling. If we want more of our games, why dont we man up and buy the ones that cater to us? Stop buying Madden, start buying Dark Souls. Let developers know what we want and they’ll give it to us, but as long as people are pirating shit from tiny guys like atlus while hordes of regular guys with jobs loyally buy NBA this and Gears that, of course nothing will change.
edit: I got kind of general towards the end of my post, I actually do agree with many of his specific points, but some of his general ‘outlook’ is a little too pollyanna imo.
Finally put a pre-reg in for Final Round. I’m going to have to get serious about shit again. I just hope I still have something left in the tank.
Going to have to train for three months. Was going to do EVO, but new houses are expensive, and I don’t know if EVO would carry KOF. Cross-country for possibly only one game ain’t worth it.
Wish I had known about SCV being official yesterday.
I have purchased the registrations for FR for you RanBat guys. I have a total of 6 but they are all in ReSe’s name cause I don’t know who the winners are yet.
Please go to the FR website and register if you have not yet so when the time comes it will be an easy name switch and I don’t have to track you down.
I will buy the game entrances when we have the winners and do the name changes on the badges.
I am going to call the hotel tomorrow and get the rooms reserved. Hopefully I just put a deposit on my card and pay when I check in.
Thanks guys. It’s been a great time so far and is looking good for FR.
See you tomorrow :china:
Also a reminder about ReSe coming up on the 12th of November. I should have a setup or two of Ultimate running for you guys to mess around with before it comes out One of the guys from ATL is supposed to bring his copy too so it should be fun. Maybe some of you could get some money matches in it before!!
Hell sinker is 100% robots and stuff, no cute girls or anything, Ether vapor is like 99% ships as well I think the characters are anime in the tiny amount of cutscenes though. I forgot to mention Genetos its a cute short free shooter.
