the medium of 3 and 4 is not 4, when you play 4 long enough you will understand this. If you want the fundamentals play 3, but if you would like to play 4 and attempt to get your fundamentals set then by all means go ahead. We all learn in different fashions and that is just my take on it.
But yet your “Keeping it real” Is the exact same thing that the person that “Shits on the game” Just said.
Once again however, that is your opinion on AE your not “keeping anything real” your forcing an opinion as “everyone’s”. there are people myself included who don’t mind AE and actually like AE. You complain about yun and yang but I guarantee you haven’t actually played against a actual solid yun or yang to know why the characters are actually dumb(There are none on the east coast let alone the US). People are fed an opinion and or lose to something and do not find a way around it to realize that it isn’t that bad. I bet you also are in the mindset that Yun is actually better than Yang.(when in actually he isn’t, it’s the yun has a drastically bigger player base because of the shallow learning curve) What happens is people are now horribly focused on once they hear something and/or see something once they deem there is no way to counter something. Them making a character relatively overpowered or not in AE just deems that people now are going to complain about something so that it results in a nerf in the upcoming update. I guarantee it happens in 2012 even though I am enjoying the list of changes in 2012 as well. In my honest opinion Vanilla was the best version of the game everyone had to be scared to take a hit because of the damage output. If Sf4 was released as a earlier reiteration of the series, the opinion of the majority would be drastically different.
People exploiting a comeback mechanic? The top tiers in AE and in Super aren’t even based on ultra’s they are based on movesets alone, Super top tiers were space control characters in AE the top tiers are characters that can maintain safe offense.
[]Super Street fighter 4 consecutive top tiers: Honda, Bison, Guile, Chun-Li, and Balrog

[]Arcade Edition CONSECUTIVE top tiers from tierlists: Yun, Yang, Fei
(All of which ultra’s are completely irrelevant in their movesets and they are top tier for their movesets alone and ultra’s)
So what is exploiting what?
And seriously lets go ALLLLLLL the way back to vanilla, Sagat was so top tier but sagat wasn’t winning the majority of anything. According to you though he was horribly disgusting. Or lets go to Ryu, who even in vanilla couldn’t win consecutively, why? Because ryu is plain, ryu has no gimmicks and the majority of the player base have no fundamentals. The one player that won with ryu (Daigo) is because his fundamentals are so good.
Seriously, Your opinion is fact and the game is so easy to win at then win at it and stop complaining, it will make you better as a player overall. We all enjoy different things and view different things as bullshit. Well all enjoy different things. Forcing your opinion as “everyone’s” instead of actually letting the fact that people have already stated in the recent months that ae is not bad. Going back to what you were going to and the “he said, she said” instead of providing an actually in depth basis. Justin stated right after devastation that he actually enjoys playing AE and is playing it more now that he was before. Being redundant, Everyone has differing opinions, accept it.(IE. Jon likes Marvel, I like SF4)
Yeah I’m not sure how playing 4 wouldn’t get you ready for 5. It’s still the same core game, just with the speed of step back to the way it was in 2, plus meter management. It won’t EXACTLY prepare you for 5 I’m sure it’s as close as it gets? Guess I’ll go play cave story to get ready for dat calibur.
SF4 is watered down real fighting game, the only people that REALLY support it that much are the people who main it and people that are young and haven’t been exposed to or played other series competitively. If you like it, you like it, keep playing it. There’s good stuff in there for the fundamental player, but well… it’s boring as fuck compared to almost any other fighter. (opinion)
YYB pretty much hit the nail on the head with all the stuff he said. To add to that, 3S will never be as big as the other shiny new overpromoted fighting games we have these days. You can play it and watch as the scene dwindles into nothing but the same old heads that have been playing it, or you can play 4 / whatever new shit gets popular and actually have some new competition and tournament winnings that are bigger than a dinner at buffalo brothers. People either cling to the past and how “good” the old shit was or complain about what we have now and forever wait for the patch / new entry to the series, but it’ll be the same cycle over and over again.
People don’t like losing, but they’re always going to if that’s their attitude. I say play it for the love of the competition. Live in the moment and don’t wait for tomorrow or look back to the past and wish the old shit would come back.
Having played 3 and 4… they’re not really that different. 4 just felt closer to Tekken to me in how stiff it was, but a lot of the stuff like stun combos and guard breaks are present in 4-5 that aren’t in 3. 3 is probably a little more fluid than 4, but I feel like overall 4 would be the most similar to 5 right?
And I mean you’re pretty much right on the tier stuff, I’ve never really seen why there was such an issue with Yun / Yang for most of the general public. To this day I’ve never fought one that made me think the character was broke… usually if I lost it was because I was outplayed. I don’t know about everyone elses opinion but I would think it’s moreso on the general feel / flow of the game that most people have complaints, not so much the balance. Super and AE felt fine to me for the most part balance wise, but I’m sure apology edition will be the best yet, if 4 is your thing.
As far as Justin saying he enjoys the game… of course he does. I’d enjoy power stone competitively if I consistently made thousands of dollars off of it.
Money can usually make you enjoy anything. I’d like my job better if I was given more money and it’s still just a not so amazing grocery store job lol.
I think this is why I’m excited for Ultimate, the more I play vanilla the more actual fun I have playing it. I like most of the bullshit and dumb stuff, only real problems I had with it was how silly Xfactor 3 was, which became less of a problem the more I played and if it gets that duration nerf I think will be a lot more reasonable. DHC glitch also bothered me a bit because of how cheap it made 100% combos and how it forced a good bit of team composition, I’m ready to completely change my team every week for a while too once ultimate drops.
I think we should have a GG setup at the next EZ? We’ve got like 5 people mentioning it on this page alone. BB was fun last time, but we can pretend a little on the side…
But honestly, it’s gotten to a point where going to tournaments is like having a part-time job: It’s brain-dead, easy, a time-sink, and I’m only there for money. And seeing as how I have a full-time job that gets me a nice salary, there’s no incentive to play here.
I’m not sure I understand your post, I get that you’re a much better player than most of us at Guilty Gear-- but I was just proposing some casual games. If we did do a ranbat there is very good chance that the money would be ‘free’ but are you making such a point out of it for some other reason I’m missing?
You serious? Watered down real fighting game? You play a game a 8 year old can play and is sponsored for, for godsake. You say the only people who support it are young and haven’t been exposed to anything else? I have played and been exposed to other games competitively growing up. Speaking for the general public once again players are getting back into AE and playing it regular. Filipinochamp plays on almost a daily I played him yesterday and he fully supports the game and he’s been exposed to other games. Daigo in a recent interview state that SF4 was one of his favorite of the series. SF4 is the only fighting game now that is still widely played all over the world seriously. From Kuwait and Iraq to Sweden to Brazil. Apparently however the only people to support the game are young and haven’t been exposed to anything else.
It doesn’t, however the point was that people direct things to defend their own game instead of just realizing that people like what they like and accepting it and accepting that they don’t know everything.
You’re right I am not even 18. I am completely oblivious to the world. I haven’t done anything. I am absolutely retarded. My opinions don’t matter. My views don’t matter because I am an horribly ignorant minor in the world. My thoughts are horribly inferior compared to amazing thought processes. I wish I would have realized this earlier.
Daigo is completely full of crap. Not everyone can be completely in tune with their forum trolling and neglect the rest of life such as yourself.
Tekken and KOF audience > SF4 Non-US audience
Media interpretation of Tekken and KOF audience < Media interpretation of SF4 us and non-US audience.
What do I know right? I am just an ignorant minor. I am sorry for wasting your time you should educate me sometime on how you can’t do anything but troll a regional thread on SRK. I would love to be enlightened. Maybe I can follow in your deeply set footprints one day. Maybe one day.
Given that people are speaking pretty generally (Like in John’s post, how are we defining this category of people who ‘reallllllly’ like it) I don’t think its going to pay to get this heated. What Jon says is true in that many people out there who play fighting games at a ‘competitive’ level are bored by SF4 at a kind of local tournament/casual gatherings level, many of these people do opt to play alternatives like BB and Marvel. What Demarcus says is true in that there are still people all over the world who enjoy and play the game for reasons that certainly aren’t limited to their inexperience. You can argue about the proportions and numbers, but that’d just be silly.
Well I think it was more or less stating the facts about SF4 until Demarcus decided to defend SF4 using the same Filipino Champ who is on youtube having a hissyfit after losing to Yun where he’s almost on the brink of tears and cursing the other guy out.
THAT Street Fighter 4?
Rotfl.
I dont play Street Fighter, so its not like I need a reason to dislike it, I never cared for 4 and I never played 4 seriously. You claim that hearsay makes people followers and its a big bandwagon conspiracy of ideas against AE? Thats a pretty weak argument if I do say so myself in that I dont have to lose to Yun bullshit myself to see that Yun is bullshit, I mean full screen ex dash punch that gives frame advantage…loooool.
I get that you are a fan of the game, its just naive to think people play it because its an awesome game. Its a new game, and its a rewarding game if you play top tier.
And IMO Fei was never bad, its just that after Vanilla and Capcom decided to just start messing with the characters they took from what good characters had which increased the usefulness of what Fei already had, to the point where everyone was destroyed (R.i.p. Dudley) and Fei was boss, with two intentional top tier characters added to the roster. Mind you I dont PLAY SF, but this is SRK its not that hard to lurk around and stay current on whats going on.
Except SF4 doesn’t really need defending. It was the only game played around here for like…2 years.
I understand wanting to defend your community, but do we really STILL need SF4 white knights?
Nah son, you’re just a teenager. Nothing wrong with that. Most of us grow out of it. You still have plenty of time to play other games and understand why all these old men hate the game.
Hell, maybe in about 7 years when everybody’s playing SF5 Hyper 2018 Edition and Street Fighter X Magic The Gathering, you’ll be in our same shoes, lamenting the days when people played games that required skills like having to choose to block in the right direction.
It takes years of experience to reach that point, yes.
I wasn’t aware that the media plays these games. Players do.
It has nothing to do with numbers. Well, other than zero. And saying that ZERO games outside of SF4 have an International audience is just plain wrong.
You left out the part about how full screen ex dash punch has no invincibility, and loses to basically any button that can be pressed as soon as you see the slow ass startup of the move begin. Along with the part about how Yun hasn’t won a double elim event since Revelations. Of course, you don’t play the game, so how would you know these…facts about the game?
Anyone who doesn’t think Fei is undisputed #1 at this point is flat out insane. That character is just as deadly as the twins, but a HELL of a lot safer in the process.
