So we had around 15-20 people show up for an impromptu tournament with a days notice, everything worked out well and we ironed out a lot of details. All I need to do now is figure out the point system and we can have weekly small tournaments (ranbats) on friday and one monthly large tournament on a saturday. There was an issue with someone stealing some of the prize money (despite it being secured behind the counter), management is currently looking into it and will review the security cameras. Nathan decided to cover the prize money out of his pocket and Kevin gave him his winnings to make up for it, so thanks to everyone who helped ease the situation. As a prize for all the #1 ranked players for each month they get free entry to the next monthly tournament. We’re thinking of more prizes but I feel that’s a good baseline. I’ll make a thread detailing everything later on, for now here are some results:
Sigh… I think I’m gonna stop playing fighting games. Maybe just stop playing games altogether. As much as I hate to say it, I wish Demarcus was still here.He might have been an ass hole, but at least I’d have someone who was passionate about the game to play with. Maybe I’m just tired of hearing about how bad my favorite game is. Maybe it’s the fact that the only competition I have is either out of state or online. I wanna learn the other games, but it’s really frustrating when I lose to low short X 50, or Will goes Magneto mode on me, and I’m given like 2.3 seconds to understand how to stop these things. When I taught my cousin how to play SSF4, I didn’t pick Akuma and just rape his face into oblivion. I taught him everything I knew about the character (Sakura), looked up shit for him and actively tried to make him a better player. But I don’t get that in return when I try and pick up new games that everyone else has been playing for years. I think I’m just frustrated that in order for me to feel challenged at a game I love, I have to pick a worse character to actually see if I could do good without using my main. (also Will, I meant to play Oni against you, my hands subconsciously went to Akuma)
Maybe I should eat a bag of dicks… lol
But whine and cheese story aside, Raf! You should send me your number so I can ask you something importante my friend. My num is 9103160955.
All I can say is hold out until Feb. by then SC and KOF will be out, which will be something new.
I’ve been waiting for those two for a long while now to have something I like. Arcana did it for me, but too much of a learning curve with combos for me to truly enjoy it.
wtf I don’t get how Lucerne was here and I missed him. I seriously think I miss him more than anyone else yet he’s a guy I respect like mad lol. Definitely was a good way to get back into games and realize where I wanna go. Hadn’t played 3S or BB seriously in forever and although 3S was partly because I wasn’t sure who to pick up. The dreamcast was a fun idea, Jojo’s, Twinkle and SSFIIX whatever initial d edition was pretty cool too. Definitely all about playing games you like not games you hate but do good in atleast for me.
That shit happens with Marvel. Most people fell off because of the “insurmountable” pile of bullshit that teams like Will and OJs can throw at you, and learning is incredibly difficult in an environment where you get one mistake and then that character / team is probably dead. But, unlike everyone else, I stuck with it and figured out how to fight it. If you like Marvel, stick with it and you’ll see that the bullshit isn’t quite as bullshit as once thought.
If he’s using wolverine, the trick is to zone and stay just outside of berserker slash range, or if you have to be in cross up range, atleast be far enough away that you can react. If you’re in the corner, that’s obviously not an option, so there you have to guess and punish. If he uses and assist to make it safe then just GTFO after you block and regain space. If it’s Magneto, he dies really easy, so let him come to you and run into shit, practice your combos so 1 hit = 800k atleast and he won’t be unbeatable. The trick is to not let him get started, the way I see it is to just treat it like you’ve lost if he gets in, but you have a second chance to POSSIBLY block if he does, just don’t rely on that, because you can only block magneto for so long.
NC is not the best state to live in for fighters, but it’s growing.
Truth is, Mikaul is probably the only person who takes AE seriously in Fayetteville. I’m not really sure what to tell him cause he kind of has no competition in his area. Yesterday everyone was tearing into the whole SF4 series and I just had to keep reminding him to play the games he likes and don’t listen to anyone else. Hopefully these ranbats will bring more out of city players to keep him going.
Also Mikaul, don’t act like I don’t try to thoroughly help you in 3S. I explain my setups, give you tips on your character, expose my thought processes. I pretty much do everything you did to help your cousin learn SF4. So it’s a bit insulting to hear you say that you don’t get that kind of mentoring in return.
Just keep playing, don’t let a single bad night with some players making fun of AE make you drop the game (or video games as a whole), especially when you won. Don’t forget that AE is the most popular game in NC just not in Fayetteville, hopefully these ranbats can bring in some competition for you.
This sounds really nice until you realize that all you did was counter bullshit with even more bullshit. That’s what Marvel 3 in its current form is, a steaming pile of bullshit. The only trick is to make sure you pick the right bullshit.
Since I have forgotten how to use the quote system, let’s try this instead.
Will you are perfectly right, it’s usually you and me chilling, going over some shit on the drive home/you taking a smoke break. So I take that back (at least for 3S).
I’m not trying to say NO ONE is good at the game in NC. That’d be a lie straight up (what I probably meant was out of my city, not state). But in order for me to play the rest of you guys, it’s like 2+hours of driving, or deal with lag online. And I know I’m a better player offline. So I was kinda including the rest of the state in online. Ya know?
But like Will said, I shouldn’t let one night get to me. I’m probably just gonna be salty for a second. I’ll keep playing AE, and trying to get better at the other games.
Had fun last night at EZ, props to anyone who made it, fuck you to anyone who stole anything (except Will, his stolen win vs me was OK ). Having entry fee waved for the next monthly seems like a good incentive to me. Once the point system is worked out, I can be contacted for how leveling systems in Japan work (x段>王者>猛者 etc.) if that’s something anyone cares about.
I also want to play more old games if anyone is down; maybe not ranbats but casuals. GGX2, Vampire Savior, maybe even CVS to make Kevin happy.
I actually have all of those just no sticks for each game. Still really curious about the stolen money since I didn’t see a single one of our guys back there. I mean nobody is gonna do that in the first place because all the shit is there and more than likely if you got caught you’d just be thrown out or banned from the venue for stealing lol. Pretty sure it wasn’t our guys so I just dunno.
LoL @ you guys talking about AE. At least you don’t main BB or GG. Just do what I do: Go to a tournament once a season and take everyone’s money for free and post on this forum even less. Too lazy to complain
GG last night at EZ. My Bad Mikaul about the AE trash talking, just having fun nothing serious. The 4 series is a fun game its just ran its course with a lot of players. Nothing against you or people who like to play it. I know I for one have begged you to play BBCS2 with us on several occasions. I might not be the best BB player in the world, but I promise to teach you what I can, without just demolishing you at the same time.Just play with me and Nathan on Thursdays sometime, we also play at his house at least 1 day in the week, which is right around the corner from EZ. or online since BBCS2 has some of the best Net code out there. Congrats on gettin1st place in AE btw.
Overall a good night, the money being stolen was Wack as hell. Ranbats was a cool Idea to generate Hype/Fun. Thanks to Alice for the Dream Cast and all the crazy fun it brought, really wanted to play Twinkle Star sprites too.
On the subject of playing what you like, I for one have been spreading my self too thin the last year. Job/Family/STF4AE/BBCS2/3SOE, pretty soon I’ll be going back to school again too. So I’ll have even less time for gaming, so I gotta focus on BBCS2 cz its the most fun for me at this time. I’ll still play other games on the side but just not hardcore anymore just don’t have the time/drive/interest anymore. The most fun I had last night was playing Guardian Heroes!! If I’m gonna pay 5 dollars to play all night I might as well get my moneys worth and have fun while doing it, that’s my logic.
I’ll be playing more BB, I lost too many matches to thing I just didn’t understand on a system level, We’re running this back next week so don’t let that ass get relaxed just yet<<<<< GG’s to all, I’m pretty sure we played a match Alice, but it was pretty late and we weren’t exactly chatty as a group at that point.
