That’s the one thing I like about Namco. Get all the info now and make the proper changes. Not release, test it out for a little, online update, patch, buy our new NEW copy of the game, etc. You feel like you’ll never get the actual finished game. T6 went through countless location testing and two arcade cabinets before it ever touched console. Some online updates for games ruin the feel of “I gotta figure out a way to beat this” and replace it with “I hope they nerf this character and buff my own.”
I think the main problem is that for a 10 dollar venue fee to be acceptable you have to get the word out like show where it’s being held and the quality of venue it is and such. 6pm is kind of a problem because of people traveling from other parts of NC because our state is so wide. Fridays really are not the best days for most people for a tournament type thing, a gathering or meet up is different cause you can show up at any time. I can understand the locally thing, that’s very important but if you want people non-local to show up it’s best to promote around at gatherings or tournaments. I know personally like friday will never work for me but seeing as you moved it to the same Saturday as ReSe I don’t think changing venue fee will help much at all so I guess something that might be good without having to change venue fee is if you do have this tournament on the 12th is try to take a video or pictures of the venue and show what your running so people have a reason to be like “Oh I should go to this guys tournaments because the location and venue is solid”. Like I know if Lucky’s was charging 10 dollar venue it’s like yea i’d pay it because back then you only had two tournaments going on but at the same time would it be worth it for that type of place? Not really, it was just a card/hobby shop and not really anything special.
SC5 has already announced that they have the capability to do MK-style patching. So if something’s messed up, they will patch until they get it right. I prefer that approach. Also, SC5 isn’t getting arcade testing like Tekken is.
The only games that get hurt by the expectation of patching are the games which deserve to get hurt, such as AE.
BTW random stance change was in SC4, they removed it in SC5 because it sucked.

We’re going to run a test RanBat today at EZ starting at 8PM featuring AE, 3S and anything else that gets enough interest. The reason it’s a test and not the real thing is because I don’t have the point system worked out yet (not much of a RanBat without any actual rankings). If this goes over well then it will become a weekly thing replacing EZ Friday sessions into EZ Friday RanBats, of course you can still just show up pay the venue fee and play casuals without entering anything. I’m doing this because I want the Fayetteville scene to thrive after I leave, hopefully with weekly small tournaments and monthly large tournaments that will be enough incentive to keep the scene going.

For anyone trying to run a tournament in NC you might want to take a 2 month break and hold out till next year cause the rest of this year is pretty packed. Here are the remaining Saturdays for 2011:

If you absolutely must host a tournament this year then I suggest Dec 3 since despite NEC being an east coast major I don’t think too many NC players are going. You can also try for other dates but don’t be disappointed if you get low attendance.

I can only bring one system (Sal wanted me to bring my DC with all the old fighters and stuff) but in the event you were going to run 3S ranbat on PS3 i’ll bring my PS3 instead just because I have AE and 3S on it. Well in SCV case then I suppose that’s understandable. Still good that they are listening to try and correct as much as they can now before release. The MK patching I was excited about at first, but I don’t think any of the characters were ever truly tested. Now its buff here nerf there. I just completely avoid it altogether, but to each his own. Maybe I’ll come back to it someday.
Haven’t really played much past SCIII, so thanks for the info. Was wondering if it was something they were bringing into SCV new and then got rid of. Never remembered Tira having random stances in III. Guess it was suppose to be partly due to her split personalities.

I don’t think it was random in 3, it was in 4. SC3 I rejected after hearing of VC so I never bothered too much.
As for MK, if they didn’t do the patches they did, EVO would have been a complete joke instead of hype. Game was super-broken at launch.
