North Carolina Players LXII

They did have one good point- Hawk didn’t get enough buffs to make up for it. That shows the flaws in ST though, not HDR. Chars like Honda, Claw, and Hawk were horrible designs.

And yeah, Matt got to my main point with SF4- all offense and defense in that game seems to be built around OS’s. It’s not fun to deal with.

The real problem with HDR was Sirlin tried to please both crowds, he should have just said “this is a new SF2, deal with it” and gotten more radical with the changes.

I didn’t realize that both the top VF players agreed on the netcode. I thought one of them bitched about some lag. Oh well.

Check it out man, I for one am not trying to “spread Hate” about 4. This is a public forum and I’m simply stating my opinion, that simple. I could careless if people love STF4,…good for them. As far as disliking the game, it has nothing to do with “Top Players opinions”. I was referring to when STF4 Vanilla was FIRST released and how Daigo felt about it. That in itself has no barring on my dissatisfaction with the game.

I hear soo many people complain about how they don’t like the game or its too easy, or OS is BS or safe Jumps are stupid.Yet and still they don’t dare try any other game.?? It confuses me. I have had fun playing the STF4 series, but in-comparison to almost all the games coming out it just doesn’t measure up. Nor does it measure up to almost all the games that came before it. As I said these views are mine and mine alone,I’m not interested in swaying people to think my way.

yeah Jo kinda expressed how I feel about SF4. It’s an alright game, but compared to the games that came before it, I think it’s not that good. I just overall think the game is boring to look at/play compared to games that came before it. Regardless of Daigo saying that he likes that game, I’m pretty sure that more top players (American that is, can’t say anything about Japanese players) dislike it and are only playing for the pot potential in the game. Then you have your crowd that will play it purely just b/c people like Daigo says that they like it. And last, you have the people who play the game b/c they actually like it.

Overall, this isn’t to bash SF4, this is more or less to show that people can and will play a game regardless if they actually like it or not.

I agree with this. People complain ALL FUCKING DAY about AE, but won’t stop playing it or entering it at tourneys. It’s like you’re a bunch of mindless fucking CapZombies who refuse to try anything else that’s out there. “This game’s ass” (pays tournament entry fee) is entirely too common of a thing around here.

I miss the days when games were played for fun and not because they are our second job… that we pay for.

To be honest I never really liked SF4 or MvC3 and only played them because that’s where the competition was. Ever since 3SO came out I dropped both of those games because there was finally a game I liked that was getting some competition. People ask me all the time why I don’t enter MvC3 anymore when I could easily make top 3 and get some money, but the thing is I don’t play these games for money (that’s just an extra incentive), I play them for fun and MvC3 just wasn’t fun to me anymore. After that I realized how much time I wasted playing games I didn’t like and decided that if the scene ever came down to a handful of games that I don’t like then I’ll just stop playing. There is no point in forcing myself to pursue a hobby that I don’t enjoy when a hobby is supposed to be an activity you do for enjoyment. I felt like I needed to play SF4 and MvC3 in order to remain relevant within the scene, but I realized that there are other ways I could support the scene by hosting tournaments/sessions or simply coming out to events and hanging out with my friends.

In short, don’t force yourself to play a game you don’t enjoy simply because of the competition, you’ll regret it in the end.

I definitely enjoy 4 although definitely not better than the older games I play however like everyone else I feel like myself and many others will start to drop it between November of this year into next year because of the high amount of options with new fighting games to play. I’ve been thinking for a while to get really into BB again along with KOF13 just as a nice change from the more capcom fighters.

As much as a dislike SF4 and it’s gameplay, I LOVE watching it being played at a high level. Out of all the games I like more then SF4, I don’t like watching any of those being played more then I do SF4.

I have tried to figure out why this is the case, and I think it comes down to being able to easily see the mind games being played out as they happen. I got bored watching MvC3 because after a while there is rarely anything new shown, and while watching its like “Oh cool look ! He guessed wrong. Oh he guessed wrong again, good game !” and the combos aren’t fun to watch anymore when after the first hit you can predict all of the next ones that will be coming without fail.

SF4 on the other hand seems to offer something new very often while viewing, it’s like you can see the interaction between the players minds acting out on screen.

“Yeah, 800k with 1 meter combos anywhere on the screen…ground bounce on foot dive…speed buffs on all projectiles…I don’t see anything wrong with this”–Doom’s QA tester

:coffee:

This shit always comes back up. Play what the fuck you want.

Alice-Chan: Are you really bringing a crew of BB players to EZ, cuz I might come to that if you really are. I might need to try to secure a ride there somehow but I’d put more effort into it if I knew it would be worth the drive.

I predict more Doctor Doom teams coming up.

Who doesn’t play games for fun? I would assume that most people play a lot of the current games because they enjoy playing with others. Since many others are playing those games now they know they can have fun playing it now as well. Me, I could care less whose playing to a certain degree. I’ll pop in some MB, GG, or SC in and have a blast. Played some pocket fighter just last night and enjoyed myself and I haven’t touched that game in years. Some play the game for the sake of playing a fun game. Some play it for the sake of playing with others who may play the same game. To each his own.

Agreed.

True I must say sir. Despite what anyone else thinks I will be playing KOFXIII and if the gems in SFxT turn out better than I think I will at least have a fun casual fighting game to play. People need to stop hating on SB though. Only the ones that get dominated in it complain about it. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s why I’m excited about KOFXIII and VF and hope at least one them (KOF) grows large in the community. People have already made up their minds about those two games before seeing anything official about either of them. Heck, at least wait until its released and you’ve played it before passing judgment. But they’ll support and play a game which all you ever hear are negative complaints from.

Well two of us play, although I know the one guy would like to go particularly for 3S but there’s no way he will play it the entire time cause he likes variety. The other guy just mostly plays AE.

I’m getting a lot more into the game, seriously thinking about dropping AE/AH3 all together for BB/KOF13.

My primary focus though is going for BB/3S this time around.

I’ll try and make it up to EZ this friday if I don’t have to work. Not sure yet.

I think Arcana’s going to largely die out if KOF takes out. It had a good run, and I respect it though.

If everyone’s getting into KOF- I’m happy, but damn it’s going to be a ton of work to keep up, especially since this is an entirely new game.

I really don’t know how much it will affect our little group of guys. I know Shinso Beam wants to get into it but I dunno if he’d drop Arcana for it. Really though i’m just looking for a good change of pace which was something Arcana did for me and now after a good run with it I wanna try out a new game (KOF13) since the KOF system i’m really unfamiliar with. I enjoy learning new gameplay systems which was what made me so interested in Arcana.

:coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee:

Yeah I need something else to get into, considering my current game list is AH3, MvC3???(but not enough for me to enter tournies). So got plenty of room for KOFXIII and MBAACC when they drop for now. It is getting easier to pick up new fighters now too, I remember how long I had to spend trying to do even the most basic shit in GG and MBAC .

I can accept that.

What in all that is pure in this world does “MBAACC” stand for and when does it come out?! I know its Melty Blood, but the “CC” part I’ve never heard of. I’ve been playing Actress Again. I like AH3, but that’s just my MB substitute to play with other people. If people are gonna jump on MB and KOF then I am more than welcome to dominate in both.

Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code, it is coming out Dec 31st for PC.
