No vids of US SF's 'Golden Era' & best_ever player!?

Fixed. You’re still an Elton Crusader. Keep fighting the good fight!

i don’t know anything about anything.
i just know this.
SF4 doesn’t feel as fun as it should be.

i wanna go back and play CvS2, MvC2, and KOF2002
why is that?
can someone explain why i feel this way?

lol, other than stating the obvious which is that i’m a grumpy old fart that refuses to learn anything “new fangled”.

I feel the same way and so do many others who played in the arcades during the 90s. The only thing consistent in life is change and I respect SF4 for what it is and like the fact it brought in a lot of new players. It’s not my cup of tea and I put very little time into it but the Afro vs Damdai money match is going to be the highlight of evo for me.

If Tomo wasn’t on japans level then why would a rusty Jeff go .500 with Daigo in AE? Why would the Wolfe bros come out of retirement and advance several fights into SBO for ST? Why is it that the US OGs have done well against Japan in both Evo and in the US vs Japan in 2000.

Back when SF2 first came out it was the Halo/Mass Effect title of its time. It was the game that 90% of the video game players played back in the earily 90’s. With a player base several times higher than current FGs. An era where players like Jeff and Watson would play the game 8 hours a day. Compare that to top US players now saying that they don’t even put in 8 hours a week. Is it really that much of a stretch that the players back then put in more effort against a larger player base than players do now? I don’t believe it is much of a stretch.

Then comparing how well retired OGs have done when they come back into the scene and play ST they tend to do well including against any Japanese competition.

But remember Tomo made his impact back during CE and HF. He never played ST seriously according to Watson. Most players don’t play HF or CE anymore (except for the country of Korea that plays CE). Even if a match were to go down we’d have a rusty Tomo playing japanese players that may not have spent a lot of time in HF. Or Tomo playing the Japanese in ST (a game that Tomo doesn’t have a lot of experience). Either way its handicapped and impossible to gauge how good a player Tomo was if he were to come back today. His reactions have slowed down and can’t put in the amount of time he used to put in to get as good as he used to be.

Its hard enough to gauge how good retired quarterbacks are when compared to todays crop of QBs and they’re playing the same game. To try and gauge a retired player like Tomo against players who aren’t even playing the same game as he did is almost impossible.

Thanks for posting this, man.

^ Any time, have to say his play is ass but maybe he is just out of practice.

Got some more classics here: Some crazy redneck spammed my youtube account.

Probably that Rocky Rose guy, or Elton Chong? There are some haters out there against Shaefer, Tomo, and the rest of the OG crew during the HF days.

It speaks to his character though. Talking trash about guys who have already proven themselves, completely out of practice, and have no intention of becoming top players anymore.

That guy is sucking mad dick dead ass.

Lol, who the fuck is this guy, anyway?

Redneck nerd who needs to get a life.

somebody missed their depressants. it’s nice to hear people drag out the “i was the sh*t back then!!!” stories, shoot a vid that NEVER shows their face and just spew utter garbage. the best way to go about it, is to show up at EVO 2012 this July and play the ST Tournament of Legends to settle it once and for all. provided they qualified that is… too bad it just ain’t HF.

lol they are not interested in playing competitively any more. They grew up, they got high paying jobs. Why would they come back just to play Street Fighter? A version they don’t like nonetheless? It’s kind of childish to expect them to do so too. What is this the WWE?

well, hulk hogan is bound to make a comeback soon… anyway, i meant that people are still going to drag this out like forever unless they do show up and play the game. additionally, they would complain that “it’s not HF which is the greatest version EVER!!!” so who knows if the Graham brothers or Schaeffer himself would even bother at all.

on a different note, the SSF2T EVO 2012 qualifiers earlier this year was awesome but the battlegrounds commentary was HYPE-less and BORING AS F**K that i watched the stream muted. the FR15 qualifiers were WAAAY better though the vids Damdai uploaded were too flicker-y for me. still, seeing some of the OG’s play ST and beat the tar out of each other was cool.

Pretty sure they won’t comeback just to prove themselves to 3 or 4 retards on youtube who are at best irrelevant…

Elton Chong = Cocksucker Bitch#1
TOSAKI = Cocksucker Bitch#2
the rest of the HF / ST players who ACTIVELY play in offline tournaments / OG’s who have already proved themselves in the past = Bukakke allover Cocksucker Bitch #1 & #2

that is all

They didn’t do well at Evo (there were far more Americans than Japanese players at Evo so it gives an illusion to see that Japan didn’t have as many people placing high). Wasn’t US vs. Japan an O Sagat fest from the US?

Apparently the level was so low back then, Tomo had to create a video to teach players why Timing, Distance and Reaction was important in SF2. Really, it doesn’t matter how much they played back then when the entire metagame for fighting games in general was incredibly underdeveloped. If a game like SF2 came out today, it would be a lot easier for players to pick it up because the fighting game metagame right now is very developed…back then I’m sure far more people were mashing their buttons and rotating their sticks/pad.

Now of course, there will be players that end up understanding how the game should be played, players like Tomo, Watson, Jeff and others…but logically I can’t imagine there to be many, and again the other big factor is there was far too little undiscovered technology. The knowledge of the existence of a lot of technology, changes the metagame completely.

One good example…how long did it take before THawk was considered a threat? For a very long time, he was a joke character with severely lacking tools.

Edit: Tosaki, I think it’s pretty pointless to post videos of rusty/retired players getting beat.

Considering Marvel 2 fanboys retarded obsession with rivalries, yes apparently…

this thread needs to die.

though i do admire the hard trolling by some of its posters.
