Evo is a gathering of nearly all the players in the FGC so if women aren’t showing up it’s no one fault but their own. Not to mention why should gender matter in a community intended to bring out the best players…
how many girls play fighting games? seems like not many. I don’t know of any girls who play any of the fighting games locally.

Newsflash, dipshit: women aren’t showing up for a variety of reasons, and one of the big ones is that they’re afraid. They see shit like what Aris did and the apologists that rose to defend him, or attacks on the female players who are already in the scene based on nothing more than the fact those players have vaginas, or the general – and very justified – anxiety any woman will feel at going to a gathering filled mostly with dudes, in a world where, based on statistics alone, that greatly increases their chances of bad shit happening to them.
No, it’s not women’s fault they feel this way, because dumbass men have done little to address these concerns. (And I swear to god, if any of you losers cite the “not all men” bullshit I’m going to put this image in every post I make in this thread.) Some segments of the FGC have been very welcoming to women and deserve to be applauded, but SRK and Evo could do more.

IMO just adding more stuff to do at Evo besides competing has probably done more to attract females (and just more people in general).
I enjoy competitive gaming, but I don’t think the scene is very welcoming to women.
On a fundamental level I disagree with gender segregation, but sometimes it’s really hard to be around men. However the solution is not to separate people. While that might make a venue more attractive to certain women, it sets a terrible precedent.
A major problem is a lack of professionalism and proper boundaries. There needs to be strict sexual harassment policies in place like those in most places of employment.

Moreover the FGC is a competitive community that has always been male dominated because men are largely more interested in it then women. Becoming a top player and winning majors takes dedication, money and lots of hard work and time…your just butthurt that a environment built off the principle of meritocracy has barely any women due to your blind worship of women being the absolute perfection of all life in the universe…and if people think I’m exaggerating this claim just reference back to Carlos defending radical feminist sentiments in previous threads.

Well outside just higher pots I’m not sure what more can be done to allure female competitiors…if you aren’t there for the competition or to spectate then it’s likely little can be done to motivate you to attend IMO.

But I have a solution that will help you in the meantime.
I used to have a major, major problem in my teens and twenties with women always touching me. My hair a lot of the time, and my arms. Almost every woman I’d talk to would feel up my arms pretty much immediately.
But now I’ve finally solved the problem. First I became old and second I became fat. My arms are normal man sized now which is to mean they lack musculature and I look like the average American now.
So I think, what you need to do is become fat and old.
Of course since you’re female even that won’t work. So I think on top of being old and fat, you must wear a mustache.

I think there are two obvious reasons why big FGC gatherings like EVO aren’t exactly teaming with women…

Fighting games are mostly a male interest. A lot of women simply aren’t interested, and very few interested enough to be serious about them.

Women are generally uncomfortable around awkward introverted guys…which seem to be most gamers. They stare, don’t know how to talk to women cause they have little experience, etc. Throw in bad hygiene/BO and that should scare off the few hardcore female gamers.

But if thousands of dollars are up for grabs and people are after that money for their livelihood, I’d say implementing some standard employment policies shouldn’t be a stretch.

And for the record one of the reasons I stay away from events is because I do feel threatened. Your continued presence here is a bold statement as to how harassment messes are cleaned up in the FGC.
