Re-reading my post, I see that it may be construed that I was saying in the opening statement that physical differences are a factor of women not showing for fighters. Lemme fix that. Blitz, you know yourself guys hang out at each others house often to play fighters or their genre of choice, everybody bring your sticks. A lot of our members here do that like every other weekend, if you’d check matchmaking. We’re practicing on each other, like sparring. Girls don’t do that and other activities male gamers do.
Well with Kayo I was always under the impression she was more a side tournament champion. If you look at her stats from Wikipedia the majority of the fighters she excelled at where side games that never really had huge traction in the competitive fighting game circuit. She never placed high in popular titles like cvs2,ST,3s,KOF,tekken,Smash,VF and so forth. The only popular title I can think of that she generally does well in is SC but the SC series is kind of a oddball in the FGC.
This isn’t diminishing her achievements or attempting to downplay those games but it would have been better if she was killing it in a game like sf4 instead.
It’s obvious, men are born with a stick attached thus have years to learn how to use it, women have to wait several years before first touching a stick, the difference is experience is just too much thus the competitions have to be segregated for the sake of fairness.
Either that or those neckbeards have a little too much “me time” and their preffered arms are absolutely jacked.
Whole lot of bitchassness going on…
…and that was before I read the link.
This generation of men are so lost…
Summary of the situation in about 13 seconds:
“IeSF is very close to get e-Sports recognized as a true sports like it should be. Part of that efforts is to comply with the international sports regulations. For example, chess is also divided into male / female leagues.”
Can someone give me a convincing reason why Chess is divided by gender?
Hearthstone sucks major dicks. If there was ever a cardgame for women to excel in, its obviously that one. So…might as well let them play it.
Show me an attractive guy that has some money, is athletic and can play sports, and is good at either school or at work and I’ll show you a guy that doesn’t play fighting games. Period.
Don’t lie to yourselves. Competitive male fighting game players exist because they don’t have friends, they don’t excel academically or at a sport or some other money making endeavor, they are not extroverted and social, and they are not attractive. Start picking up in some of those areas and suddenly these men are no longer competitive players either, instead they’re off pursuing those other interests.
I took a competitive player and directed him towards females, and he never really looked back. He pretty much created a harem.
Most of the tourney players I was friends with back when I was in HS and college are long out of the scene, instead they concentrate on work and/or family. Virtually nobody plays anymore as they get older. That has happened time and time again.
But most younger people don’t play either, because they pursue those other hobbies or opportunities. Back when there were less entertainment options these fighting games were a bit more popular just because of how cheap they were. But that’s a long bygone era now. Those 25c arcades don’t exist now and haven’t for a long time, nor is it a socially acceptable hangout type hobby anymore either.
Now women for the most part are more attractive and more social than men. Especially at younger ages, when nature works overtime to help women find mates easily, by creating a high metabolism and through puberty creating natural endowments. Women have an incredibly large range of options on what to do and how to do it. They are going to take those options.
If men had those same opportunities they would not play either, and indeed most are not playing fighting games these days. The genre is pretty much dead. Even on SRK GD most people here don’t play anymore.
I’ve read some of the statements from the organization and it seems that they are actually dividing the league to the womens benefit.
They are trying to legitamize E-sports and for those that dont know being a legit sport has nothing to do with fame or recognition it has everything do with money and your ability to be sponsored.
You have to keep in mind that above all else when they do these competitions they are putting on a show.
There is a womens division and these are there own words, so that they can promote the female players.
Lets be honest here how many esports competitions have you seen where the women make it into the top half of the bracket…
You can argue all day for their ability to compete on an even keel, but any halfway competent business isnt going to base their business plan off of theoreticals.
Half of the world are women and more than half of of revenue spent shopping globally is by women. So your trying to convcince sponsors that you are going to get their products into female monitors/tv screens in competitions where women arent even going to get that much screen time?
No you make a Womens Leauge and dedcicate half of the show to them and pick games that your analysts have shown women watch.
Edit: Not taking the bait today.
What does this rant have to do with the thread’s topic?
Well in the case of fighting games it seems to be extremely rare for women to compete on a even level. The only times I see women doing exceptionally well are in side games with a considerably reduced played base. As far as the top billing games that headline majors I have yet to see women do anything note worthy.
Here’s the thing, nobody gives a shit about womens versions of actual sports unless it’s the olympics or some shit.
With videogames women finally have a chance to compete on the same level as men with each event being one undivided pool giving anybody who has what it takes a chance to do their shit and stand out.
There are better ways to make money than trying to get people not to snicker under their breaths or use quotation marks when talking about “e-sports”, just let the women who have what it takes to compete step up and enter the proving grounds and let anybody who won’t enter without being babied into their own little side event go fuck themselves.
Fuck turning everything into business and fuck insulting half the population by essentially saying they are too fucking female to stand a chance in a mixed pool when there is no physical difference weighing in even if some don’t notice they are being insulted.
your statement doesnt just apply to fighting games, it applies to competitive gaming in general. as a pro-gamer, you basically have a small window in between your early teens to your early 20s to become a champion. if by your mid 20s you still haven’t reached the upper echeleon and found a team and/or individual sponsors (ie Justin Wong or Boxer), its time to cut your losses and figure out how to make a living in the real world. all these kids who go “all in” on progaming with no backup plan are really foolish, because when all is said and done they’ll have nothing to show for it. if you look at sc2, the smart players weren’t necessarily the best, they were the ones who figured out how to transition into more stable esports careers such as casters, producers, captains, coaches, or even team owners, rather than players. the smart ones still went to school so that they could have something to fall back on. the ones who went full pro and couldn’t make the cut had to retire and find a real job, except wtf are they going to put on their resume? played video games for the past 10 years of my life? lol.
competitive gaming simply takes too much of a time commitment to be the very best. its hard work with very little payoff. the kids who want to chase that dream are kind of dumb. maybe in 10-20 years it will be different, but i imagine it would look a lot like ufc today. much better to be someone like dana white then some low tier jobber. my buddies were joking about being dream killers at evo. they play casually and enter evo because why not? eliminating some kid in the pool stages who put their entire life into the game and seeing the devastation upon their faces would be entertaining. that’s about the only reason to still play competitive games, to crush scrubs.
Although there is no physiological reason why there should be gender-divisions in eSports, I don’t mind it.
without the money NOBODY gets to play anywhere other than in their house.
Sure we don’t give a shit because this community never has and likely never will have real money coming through it
We beg to be housed in bars and people garages and the occasional hotel ballroom
We take advantage of the kindness of certain well off members of our community and allow them to put them selves in financial binds so we get to play
choosing this over a self sustained business model that puts financial gain (cause yknow people should get paid for their time and talents) in tandem with the spirit of competition, is simply basement dweller logic.
Yo would have to be living with your mom deep into your 20’s and not have any sort of finacial responsibility to not have come to the conclusion by now that money makes the fucking world go round.
@dialupsucky
That has nothing to do, man. People didn’t believe Robin Williams was a hardcore video games fan or Vin Diesel has been playing Dungeons & Dragons since he was a teenager. You’re a big pile of bollocks.
lol well I dunno about the money part. But yea I use to be a model, and I did use to make money playing video games. One of the last tournaments I even entered was that big east coast thing with marn , combofiend all those dudes I won that thing with out losing a round i think lol… but it just takes to much out of me health wise to travel etc etc so gave it up and moved on.
Anyway thanks for the shout out though. And for what its worth I think they are some good looking dudes that play games n-no homo of course. Obviously a lot of dudes are nerds or look nerdy and they are regular dudes. But like anything in life looks can be deceiving. Dunno what tournaments are like now a days but im sure there are good looking dudes that play out there somewhere. Of course the question is, are there good looking girls that play! Cuz obviously thats what matters to me =p lol
Well it didn’t take long for the SJW tweets to take over. Now they are accusing the organizers of dividing men and women to spare men the embarrassment of losing to women…
You know I have to wonder about a hypothetical situation. If there was a invitational event that only invited the 10 top SF4 players in the world and it just happen to be all men…what’s the feminist response?
Well it didn’t take long for the SJW tweets to take over. Now they are accusing the organizers of dividing men and women to spare men the embarrassment of losing to women…
But that’s what they actually said:
“Your information is indeed correct, the tournament is open to Finnish male players only,” said Markus “Olodyn” Koskivirta, head admin of the Assembly Summer 2014 Hearthstone IeSF Qualifier, in a statement to PC Gamer. “In accordance with the International e-Sports Federation’s (IeSF) tournament regulations, since the main tournament event is open to male players only. This is to avoid possible conflicts (e.g. a female player eliminating a male player during RO8) among other things.”
