The fuck…could you at least know what you are talking about. Aksys does support THIER players and community. Damn I forgot this is SRK where some people don’t have reading comprehension.
look on the bright side…theres always next year!
I also don’t get why MK is being attacked…pretty much fighting game of the year from numerous VG media.
How dare they take Blazblue’s spot!!
That’s funny to me because that’s when BB was officially on the EVO lineup…
Yeah…so does CAPCOM, NAMCO, NETHERREALMS, and ATLUS.
I also hope you read Mr.Wizard’s response to this…
So with this…I’m done with you here.
dat R.I.P. timeline
I’m actually really happy with the choices, but wouldn’t be really fascinating to be a fly on the wall when they were discussing what to include?
Ok honestly I was mad like a few others but really stop aiming the hate at other games its not helping at all. That’s the problem with the FGC bash on other fighting games because you.
A) Don’t like them
B) Just jumping on that bandwagon
9 times out of 10 its you jumping on a bandwagon raging on games that you most likely haven’t played. I don’t like SF4 and could careless about UMVC3 I give my reasons why I dislike the game but I don’t flat out bash them nor do I bash on the players that play them. We end up being no better then the people who fight over which is better CoD or BF3 its pointless. Blazblue is a great fighting game Been playing since CT is has its flaws like any other game but I know for one that its not going to be as big say on Japan’s level that’s just wishful thinking. We can’t just expect our game to be there if we don’t come out for it anime fighting game fans already get enough shit with derogatory shit like ‘basement dwellers or weeabo gamers’. Bitching and moaning about it is only proving that we are all talk and no bite.
You want are games to get other there? Get off of the net play and come out to EVO or any tournament show that you love your games MK fans did it so why the hell can we not do it? I can’t put all the blame on the fans tho because the non-anime fighting game fans aren’t much help aswell as I just said throwing out Derogatory terms and coming up with shit like "it’s an aminu game there for its shit or made for pedo’s’,"this game is just weeabo garbage. Happened with Arcana heart 3 a very solid game that got hate for no reason and called a ‘loli’ fighter when 90% of the cast wasn’t even loli. Point is anime fighters already have issues with proving themselves not showing up only adds to it if we want Extend at evo 2013 hype the game up and show up hell hype up our side tournament show that we love the game stop bashing on other games that’s not yours we can’t be called a fighting game community if if there is no community and just factions of fighting game fans ripping an bashing on each other a community has respect for each other and shows support.
It will be harder next year.
Mr. Wizard I’m very glad you just came out and said it, to paraphrase “It’s just business.” Yes it is straight up sad didn’t get the numbers of entrants at Evo that it deserves. Please don’t take this the wrong way because I like MK9 as well, I think it had a lot of good hype, but no MK9 didn’t EARN anything. MK9 was a brand new game that was getting support from SRK from day one. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure it got announced as part of the Evo line up before the game was even officially released. Combine that with NR making sure they did everything possible to make sure their game got in. With all that support, it’s no wonder it got the turn out it did.
But let’s not kid ourselves, we can draw all the arbitrary numbers we want (200 is a joke etc.) the point was that BB was not going to make it back to Evo regardless because it wasn’t a new game, it wasn’t getting repped by SRK, and Arksys didn’t give them any money. And no it’s not SRK’s job to rep other people’s games outside of Capcom, and yes having anything more than a 6 game tournament is a nightmare to set up.
My point that I’m making is that at the end of the day Evo is just a business, but at the same time they are the leaders of the FG community. But the latter is starting to scare me, because all the reasons they are saying we can’t trust MLG (who clearly doesn’t care about the FG community) SRK is turning around and doing it themselves. And as someone mentioned before, it’s not the first time good fighting games got the shaft, and it’s not going to be the last time.
You guys can spin it however you want, but it’s my opinion BB community did a great job. They worked hard to get their game into Evo despite not being a new fighting game with and established player base, and almost no support outside of Dustloop and they did it. But at the same time, stop this nonsense that somehow Dustloop itself is going to be able to rally the community and produce more numbers then the Evo sponsored games. BB’s time is done and we need to move on.
Evo/SRK is the leader of the fighting game community, and if they really do care about supporting the FG community, they can do a much better job of supporting underdog games, or sad cases like BB will keep happening.
I think your post nicely sums up how (from my observations) the fighting game community as a whole usually feels every year when Evo announces its lineup: way more people are happy than not, but everyone wishes they’d explain “why.”
Based on what I’ve heard/read/seen, they’ll certainly answer questions that are asked of them, but their explanations tend to remain pretty surface-level, which can be a little disappointing to curious little players like us when we know all of the guys running Evo have so much community experience and a reasonably high-level understanding of how fighting games work competitively. We know they’re open and we know they’re not guarding anything, but typically the reasons they give for their game selections are brief and reserved.
Their general policy with sensitive issues seems to be the standard professional approach of “It’s better to say too little than too much”: that is, if what they would be saying might upset or offend a significant number of people, then they’d rather say nothing at all. I think most of us can respect that. Also, I’m sure we all understand that they simply don’t have the time to be their own full-time PR team, either, and that sometimes silence is just silence.
But sometimes we just wish they would share more of those nitty-gritty details with us. Pop that hood open! I want to hear the dirty stuff, man!
edit: yoooo Mr Wizard posted in this thread okay good shit hahaha
I’d missed MrWizards post somehow. I have to admit, I didn’t tihnk he’d (just about) say that Arcsys not paying up was a factor in their decision.
Yeah. I mean, I kind of took it as “They don’t pay their way in, but they pay to stay in!”
I mean, I totally agree with taking BB out because of attendance, but that took me aback.
- MK community showed up to almost all majors. Blazblue community didn’t.
- NR might have paid Evo to put the tournament in their line-up, but guess what? Arcsys provided bonus pots for Blazblue and STILL the community didn’t show up. NR didn’t pay the players and it gets a good turnout. Arcsys tries to pay people to play the game and noone cares.
Question: If BlazBlue got 200+ people at every major, do you honestly believe Evo would’ve left it out? The only questionable game that took its place (MK9) is a game that outperformed it at pretty much every major tournament for the past year.
You’re right. BlazBlue got the shaft. But it wasn’t from EVO, it was from the BB community. Support your own games. I run tournaments. You know how sad it is to have 50+ entrants in all the Capcom games and struggle to get 10-15 in BlazBlue? I had 70+ SF4 players and 50+ MvC3 players enter tournaments that Justin Wong and Marn both entered yet there were no killers in the BlazBlue tournament and I THINK there were 16 entrants for that? What’s their excuse?
Here’s how I’ll spin it: You’re delusional. BB community “loves their game” but won’t support it? It’s really sad.
BlazBlue was a sad case. It has a community that “loves it so much,” but doesn’t care enough to support it.
Well, let’s be real. If Arcsys gave a bonus pot, EVO would be obligated to run a tournament for it AND it would attract more players. They didn’t, so EVO didn’t have to worry about it.
This gives the bb scene a chance to throw its own major tourney.
Someone throw it somewhere I’m sure 1000’s of bb players will show.
Hey why don’t you guys throw it the same weekend as evo that will show them when your event is bigger than there’s.
No one should have posted after MrWizard. Because no one else has an opinion or the insight on the subject that really matters on the subject except for the Cannons.

I wasn’t going to respond to this, if anything I agree with you. Tournament organizers aren’t obligated to support the FG community beyond making a profiting from it. Are you honestly going to tell us that BB participation is so bad organizers are actually Losing money from hosting it? That the best way for the BB community to grow is to actually boot it from major tournies and see what happens?
I don’t know why you decided it was necessary to use personal attacks to prove your point. But this kind of additude is exactly what’s wrong with the FG community. Tournament organizers demanding more money and insulting players who support a particular game you don’t like is really gonna take the community farther then ever.
I think I’m done with this thread, I have better things to do then argue with immature people.
It’s going to be that way as long as EVO is the US tournament.
And yeah, people should be a lot madder at SFvsTK being in, as much as folks are shitting on that game. I hope it bombs, and I think it just might.
Support your local major instead, the community will be much stronger if it isn’t just EVO, but EVO, Final Round, SoCal, NEC, etc.
Where the fuck do you guy’s make this shit up from?
GG was super prominent for many years and so was MK once upon a time.
BB was cut for the aforementioned reasons.
KOF was treated like crap by the publisher for a long time, they got their shit together and it’ll be a huge showing.
Stop being a revisionist cock.
It’s not like he’s saying “BB isn’t in because ASW isn’t paying up”. It’s not surprising that the dev not showing support for the event was going to be a factor, specially when you’ve got non-traditional publishers like Atlus supporting the scene.
I’m with the guy who said he’s only salty because he wanted to play it. I’ve been planning to go to this year’s EVO since last year since it falls on the weekend of my birthday, and I wanted to enter at least one game. I can always enter SF4 with the billion other people, but BB is my favorite game and I’m slightly better at it, if I’m going to drop $50 to go 0-2 I’d like to at least have it be in my favorite game. I’m not going to hate on MK9, it sucks ass to watch on stream but it’s a fun game and their community has been putting in work. SFxTK I’m salty about, I see it get universally panned on the internet and most of the criticism is about the mechanics in it making it not tournament-viable, but w/e on that, Capcom brings the green so you can’t complain there.
I came in here expecting people to be shitting on SC5. I’m glad you’re not.
SC5 may not be out but its a gaurantee 100 Players who played SC4, plus the 100 or so new players who will be attracted by Pot Sizes and 2D players playing.
SC4 also got the shaft after EVO 2K10 with that Vote in Game. So we’ve waited patiently. This is the 5 revision of BB? Capcom much?!
