Nioh - Nioh 2 out now!

Spear is tied to the Body Stat, which buffs life.

Kusarigama is tied to Dex, which buffs Ninjutsu.

Tbh I don’t see the need for two melee weapons in this game anyway

Actually spear is Body, Str, Skl; sickle is Body ,Skl, Dex, so they have good overlap. Remember, ALL weapons have 3 scaling stats at least

It’s also worth noting that most light equipment including the Ninja stuff has Body and Skl as their stat requirements

There are three scaling stats, but one stat of the three has the strongest bonuses.

But that’s my point, Spear/Sickle is actually a great combination for a Ninjutsu build.

Yes, you could sub Sickle for Dual Swords, if you want to pump Skill over Dex.

In the end though, I still see no reason for two weapon sets in this game. I haven’t come across a situation yet where I feel I need to switch melee weapons, so my secondary weapon is just sitting around un-used.

One melee, one ranged is how it should have been designed.

going back and finishing some of the sub missions before i start the spider level. just beat Muneshige in an honorable duel which actually didn’t take as long as i thought it would sure i was level 40, but that guy is like 50+ so i don’t give a shit. all the extra levels let me do was barely survive his draw slashes and do decent damage.

besides i already beat him at normal level back in the beta and that was also without any cheap tricks.

You just dodge straight into him when he tries his draw cut.

im aware of that. however if your timing is off or he does something else you get hit.

What do you mean “should have”? How does giving the player an extra option hurt the game design at all?

Overall I agree, but only if you’re only using sword or spear. Axe, sickle, and to a lesser extent dual swords are more specialized. I definitely find myself wishing I had the skill points to put in to sword but I already have everything in sickle and ninjutsu. A fair trade off, but still a trade off.

It’s just redundant. I’d prefer a much more expansive skill tree per weapon.

For the most part, I can deal with any threat with any weapon using mid stance. Well, except for the yokai that crouch - have to go low for them.

I think Magoichi was playing Jumanji.

Never did get those items

the ability to switch them has nothing to do with the limited move sets. at best its a symptom of it not the cause.

No shit it’s a symptom. After a couple of restarts, the combat has become pretty forgettable for me, tbh.

Every fight just boils down to keeping distance and either whiff punishing or playing hit and run, IMO.

Which isn’t to say that it’s not hard, it just seems to lack depth when two of the three stances, or two-thirds of all moves, if you will, are mostly pointless.

Finished first mission today. Enjoying the game a lot so far. I think I gotta get into the whole dynamics of character building tho. Typically in games I like to keep a balanced character with usually one stat being favored.

Have tried out some weapons. Sword and Axe I like the most. And I still gotta get into how do I prefer my equipment. On rather I wanna be lightweight or heavy

Not about the character, it’s more of the weapon you’re going to him on. I’m Building off Axe.

goddam how big is this goddam mountain?! i spent forever scouring that place top to bottom and that bitch STILL has a piece left. i mean she’s not that difficult but its bugging the shit out of me that im still missing one. fuck im tired, tired of exploring, tired of spiders, i think im done for the night.

Guess I will try to focus on stats that affect swoeds and axes then. Some of the other weapons are decent for regular enemies but im just moreso planning for bosses and shit I guess those damn Yokai

Well, yeah but using other stances makes stuff more efficient. I mean, each stance has enough ability on it’s own but it’s the fact that you have so many options that means you can really optimize a lot

I don’t find high or low to particularly efficient, most of the time. Low takes lots of hits to kill, high is often very slow.

I’ve seen a few boss videos here and elsewhere that indicate, to me at least, that High is really effective, especially with a heavy weapon like the Ax.

Uh, yeah that’s why you use all three, not just one. They definitely all have their uses, but of course the level of usefulness of each style is all different.

Anyway I’m not saying that mid stance isn’t enough, I’m saying that using all of them in certain circumstances is the most efficient, no matter what weapon it is
