Nioh - Nioh 2 out now!

The level design in this game is awesome. I just cleared the poison mines area which reminded me of the mines in Demon’s Souls. It seemed difficult at first until I started to switch on those windmill/fan things which cleared up the poison.

I got rekt on Nue countless times, but I took out Tachibana on my first try as well as the Centipede boss. The level after the mines is even better than the last - the sunken temple area. This is the coolest level so far, holy shit. You can easily get knocked off into the ocean to your death if you’re not paying attention, which makes fights even more intense, and traveling the rooftops of this temple makes me feel like a goddamn Ninja.

I’ve been using the high stance with the sword recently. I dumped a lot of points into the stat that gives you +Ki and +Sword damage, so I’m going to focus on this weapon for now. I just can’t get behind how slow the axe is, even in mid-stance it feels slow to me.

I got a few points into Ninjutsu/Omnryu to use some Shurikens, Roid Pills that increase attack damage, and a couple +enchants to my weapons. I wasn’t sure how to use them until @Deathology pointed out you have to complete the training for them at the Dojo first. Thanks man.

Agreed sunken temple is breath taking. I think the reason this got such high scores despite having such limited variety is because the level variety makes up for it. I find it weird people hated the temple and mines when they were two of my favorite areas so far. just break the poison generators and watch your dam step. that water helped me far more than it killed me.

I’ve started using hi stance for my dual swords as they’re a lot stronger than I thought it was. the attacks come out quick enough that keep thinking I’m in med stance, the finisher can chase down dodging enemies, and of course all the absurdly strong specials it has. I’m going to look into getting some shurikens just to deal with the element demons.

Using a single stance the entire game is really just limiting yourself.

Big boy Axe mode!

When I get home time to go ham!

Gotta play it like DMC4. Style (switch) on these bitches.

Just beat the game. It was fun, though I feel like the bosses were a lot easier durring the second half. Still got the epilogue, new sub missions, and NG+ to do.

@Sonicabid Axe is best when you have heavy armor on cause you get crazy hyper armor in this game, and having high Stm and Body on top of heavy armor makes you really freaking tanky. Sword is actually amazing with hyper armor too IMO

I am straight up lost in the sunken temple level. I remember there being a locked door near the beginning of the level, maybe I picked up an item that opens it without realizing it or something.

The aesthetics+music+level design there is so damn good. My favorite area of the game so far.

I always go for high melee damage/high armor in Souls games, and it’s no different here.

I got a bunch of points in Stamina and Heart for the extra Ki and sward damage. I got a decent amount into Strength too, even though it’s meant for axes I noticed it would give me as much as damage to my sword as a stat point into Heart/Skill would so I figured why not? It also seems like stats soft cap after a while like in the some of the Souls games. I swear Stamina was giving me +30 HP and a Ninja Skill point but now it’s down to 25 HP(same as the Body stat) but without a +1 Ninja Skill point.

I’m going to focus on the Body stat more followed by the Skill stat. I might get Strength up to 20 points too, if I’m right and it’s like the Stamina stat it soft caps at 20 I believe. My Heart stat is over 20 too and I believe it’s not giving me as much per point as it used to either.

you get to the impassable areas in the flooded temple by jumping from the roofs, look for ladders and inclines.

Is Random Slash really as good as it looks? ENB tore Nue up with just that move.

I figured that out but still ended up getting lost. The last memorable thing I did was I dropped down from some roof, killed a bunch of monsters then touched a scroll on a wall which destroyed the wall completely, making it a bit easier to get to certain areas near the 2nd save point.

I’ll explore it more tonight.

you can tear up Nue with anything

I must have a defective controller then

I died on Nue a bunch of times. If you hug the house in the back while fighting him, his lightning attacks will hit the roof of the house instead of the arena you’re in. Even if you do that, he’s still an annoying fight.

You need to learn his moveset. He has long visual cues that will give you a heads up as to what he’s about to do. Certain moves leave him wide open completely. When he does his lightning beam move, if you can react to it early enough, you can sprint past it, and if you hit him early with a single hit to the obvious glowing weak point in his chest, it will shave off his Ki bar completely. You can get big damage on him in this situation, at that point it’s all free hits and managing your Ki with Ki pulse. The only thing he can do with no Ki bar is the lightning attack, but if you’re near the back house those will whiff completely.

When he goes for a lightning attack he’ll tilt his head upwards before he does it, and depending on your spacing, you can hit him once and it will shave off his entire Ki bar with one swipe. Free hits for a while after that. Save your triangle+circle move until he’s around 50-60%, since you’re invincible during it you can just keep attacking with no worries. Another attack he does that leaves his chest wide open is when he sprints towards you --> falls to his side. He’s wide open after that, and again, one hit to his chest will shave off his entire Ki bar.

If you manage to hit his chest while under the effect of triangle+circle, you basically will have won the fight at that point. The fight is all about learning patterns and reacting accordingly. He only has like 4-5 moves or so and before each one there’s a huge visual cue of what he’s going to do.

you just know the trick yet.

when he calls down lighting just walk away. avoid all his attacks until you see him charge up his lazer then to the side he starts from and hit him after you dodge it it’ll completely drain his ki. hit with a combo then walk away as he’ll call lighting on himself on your position when he recovers.

he’s a complete glass canon.

This game is crack. The more I progress through it the more I like it. I loved the centipede boss fight. At first it looked crazy intimidating and felt great once I figured out the trick. I never cared much for koei tecmo games tbh but they’ve really done me in with this one.

Scooped up the last physical copy of this game over the weekend at local GameStop :smokin: About to go ham on this after work today.

It’s a Team Ninja game.

…You never played Ninja Gaiden then. :coffee:

ive heard do much complaining about the Hinoema and Yuki-Ona, but what about this goddam frog?! massive hit boxes, massive damage, destroys your stamina on block, doesn’t even stagger when i drain his ki he just says “you’re not to bad” then stops doing the only move i can exploit and starts filling the room with bombs and paralyzing gas that obstructs my view.
