My body is SO fucking ready
Nioh 2 is pretty hype one of the best games of last year
During the interview, Yasuda confirmed that Nioh 2 will have a character creation system and that the protagonist will possess the power of yokai, allowing for “yokai-versus-samurai” and “yokai-versus-yokai” battles to unfold. Yasuda also confirms Team Ninja will release a demo ahead of the game’s release to gather fan feedback.
Get the tidbits from Yasuda below.
On his goal for Nioh 2…
Yasuda: “My goal for Nioh 2 would be a natural evolution, not a dramatic change or deterioration. In the first title, although we were very happy with how it was received, there were things that we could not have accomplished at the same time. So I’d like to strengthen what we did well, while at the same time fix some of the issues that we couldn’t do in time. That’s what I’d like to see happen in Nioh 2.”
On lessons learned in the original Nioh…
Yasuda: “Team Ninja is known for creating action games, but Nioh on the other hand was our first action RPG. So I’d say that in some of the game balancing and RPG departments, as well as some of the updates, there were certain issues that players might not have necessarily been happy with, so that’s something I’d like to improve upon and do better this time.”
On Nioh 2‘s story connections with the original Nioh…
Yasuda: “Yes, it ties in with the story of the first game—like the time and setting, those we will reveal in the days to come. But while I feel that those who have never played the original Nioh can enjoy the story, people who did can even more so enjoy it.
“And this is just sales talk, but Nioh is on sale right now, so we’d like to invite people who have never tried the game before to give it a try.”
On how feedback from the first game influenced development on Nioh 2…
Yasuda: “We did two demos before the first Nioh was launched, and we’re truly grateful for all the feedback from our fans. But having said that, after the game launched, one of the biggest requests that we had was character creation. And that’s something we’re going to implement in Nioh 2. Players will definitely be able to customize all the details, including gender and race.”
On what sets Nioh apart from other third-party action games…
Yasuda: “In general, I think it’s the close quarters combat system. We have certain elements that are very uniquely Japanese, such as the ki pulse and the weapon stances. In addition to that, maybe the fact that both the player and the enemy have a stamina bar. That’s probably something unique to Nioh.”
On the teaser trailer…
Yasuda: “Players can probably tell that the next protagonist actually possesses the power of yokai. We’ve seen “samurai-versus-yokai” and “samurai-versus-samurai” before, but this time around we’re going to have “yokai-versus-samurai” and “yokai-versus-yokai” as well, so you’ll be able to feel some of the yokai skills and moves, which should bring the action system to the next level.”
On the most important thing the team needs to get right with Nioh 2…
Yasuda: “First of all, as a “masocore” game, we’ll make it satisfying again, but in that we want to have more satisfying deaths for players. And while Team Ninja will do its best to bring everybody the best product, we don’t want it to be just our subjective opinion. So as we did with Nioh, we’ll release a free demo to for everyone again to get feedback and make this game right.”
And a message to fans…
Lee: “First of all, we want to thank everyone for making Nioh a success. And having said that, I think just to kind of draw a comparison of where we were and where we’re at, I think with Nioh it was our first time getting into that genre. And to be quite honest, as part of our team, we were a little bit cautious and it was sort of trepidatious in that sense. I think this time around, with the experience that we gained, and obviously all the encouragement and support that we have, we’ve gained a lot of confidence as well. And thinking back, there were a lot of things that we didn’t get to do. But this time around, I guess the simple way for me to put this is, the gloves are off, we’re going to go in hard. And so I hope the fans are ready for it, because I think this experience is going to be close to what we really had in mind. So I can’t wait for you guys to play it.”
yunno what is the only thing i dislike about this game?
that you cant parry the Oni attacks.
i hate that.
but i dont know if the “Complete Edition” is a updated version where you can parry Oni attacks.
anyone know?
also, i hope in Nioh 2 you’ll be able to parry attacks from every enemy including bosses.
No, the complete edition just has all the DLC. The game itself is the same version with all the same changes and patches.
The problem with making parries doable vs Oni is it’ll make them wayyyy too easy. You actually can already use some parries vs weaker Yokai, but any party that like grabs the opponent’s body doesn’t work. I think the idea is they are just too strong to be parried. They’d have to completely re work parries to make them not broken vs big slow guys.
You can parry human bosses, just not the Yokai ones.
They probably dont want the parry system completely side stepping the combat. TN have been making less dominant parry systems ever since NGII.
I am mostly for this in action game design, no strat should handle all situations. Very few games get away with this imo, and they are games like DMC3 where its all about showing off.
TN generalky sees the fight as the combat challange, not the showing off, so they tend to avoid dominant strategies when possible.
Yeah, that actually brings up my biggest issue with Nioh though which is that they make the player character way WAY too fucking strong. The gear and RPG aspects have too much say in how hard the game is because by the time you get to Way of the Wise and/or Way of the Nioh you can make a build that oneshots everything. Everything can still one shot you but a whole bunch of the combat depth is lost if you go that route. I’m not even saying you NEED those builds to finish those modes but it’s just kinda bullshit that it’s even possible. Cause that means if I’m not using those builds I’m just deciding to make the game harder for myself, and I’d prefer the developers DESIGN for it.
I will say they do a much better job with NG+'s than most games because they do change enemy placements and even add enemies from the DLC in the normal areas, and even have basically red phantom versions of enemies that are super strong. All that stuff is great, the issue is the way the RPG mechanics and shit work around all of it
Well i didnt mean to imply that they where perfect at it.
but parries are risk reward tho.
if you fail you die.
i wouldnt say parries would make it too easy if you could parry bosses. well i guess you can lower the post parry damage. or make the parry stricter timing against bosses.
i just dont like something given then taken away like that. let the baby keep his bottle.
The risk Vs reward is never high enough. Its just a game, you practice till the risk is gone and then its just a reward scanario.
I’m not saying you have to agree or anything, i just think the pattern of behaivor out of TN about parry systems spells out their intent. They have been making weaker Parry systems ever since Ninja Gaiden/Blacks counter system starting with NGII where they gave it a wiff animation.l. It seems obvious to me Hayashi doesnt want people leaning on them in his games. He doesnt want it to be the dominate strat, and frankly i dont blame him.
Besides they didnt take it away from you, they just said these assholes arent effected by it.
If you fail you take some damage, if you succeed you utterly decimate the opponent. And again, you can already parry human bosses who have much faster attacks than most Yokai, and yeah, it does kind of break the fights. Parries in this game don’t just do damage, they even give you followups and as such give you waaaaay too much reward.
I DO agree with letting us use all our tools, but yeah they definitely, DEFINITELY need to lower the reward. Thing is, they’d have to lower it so much that the lines where it becomes not worth using would be really close. I think it would be difficult to balance well. I think the best parries(for balance) are the ones that don’t do any damage at all but put you in a highly advantageous situation, like say they’re backturned and you have time to get a combo in, or you get a knockdown or something. As it is now, the parries do that AND a big chunk of damage. And it only gets worse the further up you go in NG+s
Can’t wait for Nioh 2 news whenever that comes
About time for some Nioh 2 updates…
That trailer was fuckin HYPE. Dude the transformations look SICK! New twin axe weapon! New magic bullshit! New enemies!
Fuck dude, they could show me anything and I’d be super hyped. I loved Nioh so much. I hope they invited some non-influencers too, I wanna get in on that.
Hmm…
Hopefully see some more media/info drop stuffs after the closed alpha test.
QoL improvements would be a good start, lol.
What kind of QoL do you want? I can’t think of much off the top of my head
Mainly loot system stuffs; could be streamlined in regards to weapon/armor/item to enemy type(s), if anything to lessen the grind, lol.
Finding some Smithing Texts were kinda annoying and some were linked to difficulty levels IIRC.
Larger inventory capacity to accommodate even more loot would be nice.
I wonder if there’s gonna be any changes to the Reforging system…
Probably have to load up the game sometime to check some things out later, lol.
