Nioh - Nioh 2 out now!

Yeah I never bothered with Smithing texts, fuck that getting the perfect roll shit lol

Man, if they only gave access out to influencers that’s some BS

Smithing Text as a 1st time mission reward was okay, but as a rare reward from some NPC revenant or whatever boss enemy, FOH, especially in regards to diff level.

The (re)rolling for stats wasn’t too bad IMO, unless you had OCD tendencies. Like, getting the “perfect” roll was whatever, but getting all the specific rolls you wanted in a particular slot order, was kinda FUBAR, lol.

If you managed to get/forge a particular weapon/armor piece that was free from an inheritance slot, great. If not, the location of said inheritance slot could be somewhat annoying, especially when it came to armor sets. Majority of my inheritance slot weapon stuffs was CTA (attribute) A- or CCD +15.0%.

Nevermind the upgrading from divine to ethereal status via ‘The Abyss’ stuff, which was YMMV status.

I never felt like I needed them anyway, getting any random one was fine since you can re-roll the affixes anyway. I would just switch if I came across a random one that was crazy

> goes to check email
> checks messages; notices some PSN promo stuffs
> sees ‘Nioh 2 Alpha Demo’ redeem code email
> redeems code; now downloading demo…

Played the Nioh 2 Alpha Demo for like 6 hours last night until the morning.

At first, I just tried stuff out and explored…
Then I got a spear and everything was right again, lol.

Will likely write about my impressions later on.

Nioh 2 Alpha Demo impressions (WIP)

Character Creator mode:
Looks to has some potential; customization options likely to be quite robust for whatever individual personalization purposes. Presets are decent.

Yokai Shift (transformation mode):
Basically, it’s a ‘living weapon’ personification, IMO. 3 to play around with (fire, lightning, water), each with it’s own nuances with attacks, movement, etc.

Yokai Soul Core System:
Sometimes you’ll get a soul core from defeating whatever yokai enemy, which can be equipped and used for supplemental action stuffs. Up to 2 can be equipped at a time, each with a relative cost limit. Functions similar to guardian spirit summon stuffs via Onmyo.

Hatchets (Skill):
Interesting weapon; think dual swords with projectile attacks. Projectiles are charged strong attacks (various axe throw ranges) needing lock-on to be effective.

Skill Tree System stuffs:
Basically, it’s a sphere grid w/ nodes (think FF X or Yakuza Kiwami stuffs), with some astrologer flair. Interface looks kind of busy compared to the first Nioh (scrolls).

New Yokai:
Nure-Onna (naga) is an interesting addition. Everyone should experience it on their own, lol.

> decides to do ‘Twilight Realm’ mission
> reaches 2nd shrine; sets up a Benevolent Grave (multiplayer assist summon item)
> proceeds to clear out rest of level; then does some grinding for resources
> several hours pass
> finishes level after feeling content with whatever resource rewards acquired (amrita, gear, soul cores, etc.)
> learns that assist stuff was utilized by other players 19 times (nice!) and rewards for usage was pretty cool (some ochokos/jaspers)

Nioh 2 Alpha Demo impressions/info stuffs - part 2

Dark (Yokai) Realm:
Within a level, you will encounter a zone/room that expands upon the miasma pools that the yokai tend to create at times during battle. The visuals within the area appear monochromatic with the accent of red lilies appearing here and there (think Ogress encounter), a mid-sized yokai (Yoki minimum) must be defeated to dispel the area; also to unseal certain treasure chests in the zone, and your Ki recovery is decreased but your Yokai Force gain (for soul core usage) is increased while you are within the zone.

Bosses can also invoke the Dark Realm during their fights, making Ki usage/management a bit more involved when it occurs. The effect can be mitigated if you manage to deplete the boss’s Ki gauge or enough time passes IIRC.

Benevolent Graves:
Basically the opposite of the (red) Revenant Graves; BG appears blue. Using an item called a ‘Righteous Jasper’, you place the BG at your location, which other players can summon (via ochokos) as an ally for a period of time; you cannot use it yourself (lol). The BG summon will have your stats/loadout at that moment in time (you can refresh it later to be up to date) and only one can be summoned at a time. You get rewards the more times your BG is summoned/used by other players.

New Elements (Purity/Blessed and Corruption/Yokai):

more New Yokai:
Ippon Datara hops around on one foot and has fire damage stuffs, Waira rolls/tunnels at you, Gaki are quick to aggro, the Sudama want to trade…

The rolly-poly bakeneko just want to play, lol.

I feel petty for saying this but knowing it has a create a character system for some reason really raises the appeal of this game for me over the first one.

Nioh 2 Alpha Demo Impressions - part 3

re: Skill Tree system
For the alpha demo, all the skills points needed for whatever skill activation was set to one point; for the weapon trees, active skills were the inner nodes with some line connectors/branches to other active skills (relative to stance stuff), passive skills were usually behind them (ex: critical stat bonus stuff). Each weapon had the same passives (with some exceptions), meaning one could just specialize in that weapon alone, unlike the crossover/carryover of passive skills via different weapon trees in the first Nioh. Lots of passives, each with their own nodes, with a good amount of returning/familiar active skills, but very little new skills, IMO.

For Ninjutsu/Onmyo, all incremental stuffs (for chosen skills) were streamlined into singular nodes, which showed the min/max of stock available. Incremental values for singular allocation included decimals (ex: 0.6, 0.8, 1.5, 2.5, etc). So when you set your jutsu, you would toggle the amount needed of something (YMMV) relative to your total overall jutsu cost via a slider.

Also, depending on the skill, you would have to activate preceeding nodes/lines before it, if necessary. To activate ‘Sloth Talisman’, I had to activate 4 nodes on two different lines (1 lighting talisman, 1 lighting shot talisman, 1 purity talisman, and a yokai/dark realm resist passive, IIRC).

re: Soul Core stuffs
I feel like a ‘soul match’ system of sorts could be implemented here, if anything to allow the customization of affixes (besides level and creation), otherwise they’d be like accessory stuffs (as is). One will likely spend some time in whatever Twilight Mission grinding/farming for whatever (high leveled) soul core, with a desirable affix.

Kinda debating doing a list of the available yokai soul core actions that were in the alpha demo…

re: Benevolent Graves
I like it; mainly it’s a nice change of pace to see something that’s not a red Revenant Grave, lol. I tended to see BGs at the first shrine, mid-point shrine, and before the boss room door in whatever mission level; every once in a while I’d see one before a Dark Realm zone.

Rewards need a bit of tweaking, though; sometimes you’ll get a decent amount of ochokos/jaspers, while other times you’ll get something like one ochoko for like three dozen summons. YMMV, lol.

TGS trailer…

So excited. Nioh 2 and MH on their own will keep me busy the whole year lol
