Nintendo 3DS - Best Handheld Today

Damn, way too many good RPGs coming out in the first half of the year for the 3DS and I haven’t even played Crimson Shroud like I had intended.

My wallet and normal luxury budget is going to take a hit on this one.

Etrian Odyssey IV is getting a demo on Feb. 7!

Would be awesome if it had Streets Of Rage battle/boss music. I mean it IS the same guy.

I found out some sad news today. They cut the sku off for preorders on Fire Emblem…and i was going to put mine in today. I am quite salty right now.

Great that Project x Zone getting an western release. Mirror of Fate won’t be the only thing I play when I eventually get a 3DS

Pretty much a broad overview rundown of the classes and characters while showing some of their attack animations. If you want some of this to be a surprise then don’t watch this.

3DS needs more action games.

Hello everyone, well I recently made a thread and someone told me to go here. Is a 3DS worth buying? I was a big Nintendo fan before the DS and Wii generation, but the 3DS is looking pretty cool. Which model should I get? Should I get a bundle? I want to buy a handheld that I won’t be disappointed with, which is what I was when I got the PSP and DS. In fact, the GBASP is my favorite handheld and one of my top three favorite consoles in general.

What am I interested in? Fire Emblem Awakening and Shin Megami Tensei (I think it’s Devil Survivor on 3DS) are two (I don’t play too many RPGs and I have never played either of these, but they look cool). Project X Zone is another. Castlevania: Mirror of Fate, Ocarina 3D, and when they get released Smash Bros and the inevitable next Pokemon game after X and Y, since I don’t really care too much about X and Y now. So what do you think? Is it better then the DS and PSP/ on par or even better then the GBASP? Should I get one?

I’d say it’s worth it based on what you’re interested in, as most of those titles are pretty good/shaping up nicely from what I’ve heard. It comes down entirely to your personal preference. For me, it’s a God send since I travel on the bus 6 hours a week, having played through OOT, SM3DL, and currently playing through Paper Mario: Sticker Star.

As for bundles, there is a Mario Kart 7 one and a Super Mario 3D land one here in the UK (probably more, but I’m not 100%), although I’m not sure about bundles in other countries. Sorry.

And finally as to which model, it also comes down to personal preference. I have a Blue 3DSXL, which I personally find better than standard 3DS for bigger hands, and screen quality doesn’t look too streached (I bairly notice it during gameplay anyway), but it can be a bit too big to fit in some pockets. There are quite a few stores in the UK that have stands that you can play the both the 3DS and 3DSXL side-by-side. Thats how I found out which one I prefered. But once again, not sure if they do this outside of the UK.

Hope you found some of this ramble helpful

What type of games do you like?

As of now, the 3DS is a pretty good haven for retro games (great platformers like Shinobi, Super Mario and various eShop/Virtual Console games) and some action games (Kid Icarus, Resident Evil, ujpcoming Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate etc). It does have a few good puzzle games but not as many as the DS wound up getting early on. 2013 it is getting a lot of promising RPGs, such as a few of those you mentioned not to mention a SMT spinoff Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers coming out this spring. Compared to the DS and GBA, the clear cut advantage the 3DS has so far is the eShop (getting games via download) and just a decent online structure for some of its games.

When it comes to software, it is hard to tell where the system is really going so the best I can say is that if you liked RPGs, action games or platformer then the 3DS is a good investment.

If you were dissapointed with having a DS and PSP I’m not sure I could recommend a 3DSto you. The Library is nowhere near as strong as the DS library is. That said, if you do opt to get one and your a full grown adult male, I suggest getting the 3DS XL. It’s much more comfortable for longer play sessions.

.

Probably something like this

Best part is that you can transfer your progress in the demo to the full release.

The PSP didn’t have many good handheld games, but it was OK. The DS was disappointing because it became a console for shovelware and casual junk. The reason why I’m interested in the 3DS is because I want to play all of these cool Nintendo franchises again without getting a Wii U, and also to try out a lot of new stuff.

The Psp was the rpg system.
They all had nice points like the Psp connecting to a TV on later models which in normal Sony fashion they never advertised or pushed as a selling point.

Ds library was ok not great.

My 3ds has collected dust for months for the same reason.

I like fighting games (of course) but I’d rather play them on a console with a stick then with touchscreen junk. I don’t really play too many RPGs other then Pokemon, but I have just recently started getting into them. I love platformers and action games as well. No Sonic, but Yoshi’s Island, Mario, Castelvania, etc. are good. I don’t like Resident Evil, but I really enjoyed the Monster Hunter games on PSP. I am a huge Pokemon fan, but I wait until the “extra” versions, so I’ll wait until Z or whatever. Shinobi was great on Genesis. I also enjoy MGS, but I may just get the HD Collection on PS3 instead of MGS 3D.

So I’d say, RPGs, Platformers, a few action games, and pretty much any Nintendo stuff (From its big franchises, not casual Brain Age garbage) would be my main purchases on the 3DS. I’m not a full grown adult male as in out of college, full time job, etc., but I will be going to college soon.

I live in America. The only one they have at the moment is the Fire Emblem one I think. It is a dark blue normal 3DS. But which model comes in white? I hate buying things in black.

I disagree with this…**Wii **had a ton of shovelware and casual stuff on it that often out beat swamped over the good games. I didn’t really feel I had that problem with DS. I’m sure we could probably make a list of solid games on that DS and it’d probably be a lot bigger than you’d think.

I’m a recent owner of a 3DSXL and I can honestly say I have no regrets owning one. Then again, I only got one for Fire Emblem. Usually most FE games have tons of replay value so that’s a plus for me until more releases that I want come out (DW and Pokemon). Zelda, Mario, and games like Resident Evil should net some investment time also.

Though the Vita’s appeal is very strong, I like where the 3DS is heading. People say 3D is gimmicky, but I don’t really see what’s so gimmicky about it. It’s more of a feature if anything, one that doesn’t bother me.

I just finished Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward.

I really wish there were more games like this. The story is so suspenseful, full of mystery, twists and turns, interesting characters, and powerful revelations that bring chills down your spine. And the ties to the first game was really well thought out. I honestly couldn’t see how they could significantly tie this to the first one, but they did in a great way.

It’s a shame I don’t know anyone personally who has played it. The experience of playing 999 and VLR should be shared and discussed amongst lovers of great literary works, but I can’t get any of my friends to play it. Once they discover that they have to spend significant time reading, they’re turned off.

Anyway, VLR certainly sets itself up for a sequal. I hope it sold well enough for it to be made and released worldwide.

BTW, with games like this, I don’t get how anyone’s 3DS is collecting dust. It’s my PS3 thats collecting dust in my home.
