I’m just playing Devil’s advocate man. I didn’t believe you would call Metroid an RPG, though it does have RPG elements (i.e. exploration and weapon/ability upgrades, and Samus’ HP is actually measured numerically and increases by 100 every time you find an energy tank).
But, for what it’s worth, I would honestly consider Castlevania more of a platformer than a traditional RPG.
I’ve pretty much given up on this gaming generation. Perhaps I’ll get a Wii U in the future.
Here’s my DS collection right now:
Mario Kart DS
Tetris DS
Jump Ultimate Stars
Planet Puzzle League
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
Fire Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow
Gonna sell off Mario Kart DS and Tetris DS with my DSiXL. Definitely keeping my IntSys collection though. Jump Ultimate Stars should still be playable on 3DS right? I was able to play it on my DSi since it’s not region-locked like Fire Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow (luckily I still have a DS Lite to play Fire Emblem on :D).
The only reason 2D games were alive and well on DS was because the hardware wasn’t powerful enough to handle 3D games which forced developers to compensate with more creativity in games, on 3DS we’re seeing the slow death of 2D games so on Nintendo’s next handheld I expect to see even fewer 2D games and more full 3D ones.
Like I said you’re more than welcome to continue disagreeing with the facts and english language, just like how I’m entitled to think Smash Brothers Brawl is a first person shooter:tup:
I’m sure everyone would agree the CV games emphasize platforming more than it’s RPG side, I was just saying how the CV games do fall under the RPG category, but to what extent that is completely debateable. ARPGs are great because ideally they take the best of both genres and fuse them to create something that doesn’t have the weaknesses of either (the boring grinding of RPGs and the lack of depth in action games) so I’d love to see more on 3DS like Monster Hunter 4 or Fantasy Life.
That’s true for most DS games, but Fire Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow is apparently “DSi-enhanced”, and is region-locked for the DSi (and presumably 3DS). It’s playable on a regular DS though, which is why I still keep my DS Lite around.
Oh god, Shovel Knight is so good. I can’t stop saying good things about it. Go buy it now if you haven’t already. Now. RIGHT NOW.
(My only disappointment is no 4-player battle mode for the 3DS version. They could have worked something similar to the download play or 4-swords adventure multiplayer)
Checking out my 2DS I got yesterday…not bad at all. I’m loving it already! Even if it is shaped like a slice of pound cake.
Traded in my DSi XL and a bunch of games to get about $90 in store credit. It was just enough for me to get a 2DS carry case, a refurb’d DS Lite (my old one is breaking down), and Mario Kart 7.
For my fellow SRPG loving 3DS owners that missed out on the original DS release or the 3DS retail version, Devil Survivor Overclocked is on sale for $14.99 on eShop until July 7th.
Own it myself and it is a great game, worth multiple replays with legitimately different routes and endings and sweet New Game+ bonuses.
