Nintendo 3DS - Best Handheld Today

Nice! Got DK the other day. Enjoying it immensely so far.

Wii U will be picking up soon, I suspect.

It looks like it is finally starting.
Hopefully nintendos ability to render these carts useless with updates is up to par so we dont go the route of he ds.

What’s up y’all?

I’ve been wanting to pick up another handheld system since it’s been a LONG time (last one for me was a GBA SP!) and I’m not 100% sure what to get. The 3DS seems FAR more interesting (and comfortable/durable) than the Vita, I’m just not up-to-date with any of this sh*t anymore so I don’t know what game(s) to get!

Honestly, some online/ad-hoc coop/V.S. games would be cool just not sure which ones out there are good or have an active ā€œsceneā€. The new Monster Hunter game looks cool, I dig stuff like that. Any lively dungeon-crawl with online activity is dope in my books.

Suggest away! I’m all ears, brohs.

@rubixgroove It’s really annoying when people ask for suggestions in threads that are littered with them. No we don’t expect you to sift through 50 pages of posts but at least skim random pages before asking, hell I have a bunch of suggestions on the previous page!

Anyways going to Spain on Sunday, copping DCKR3D on Saturday woot! User reviews on metacritic are usually so flawed due to personal bias and stupidity running amok in the gaming scene so they don’t mean much, but surprisingly for DCKR3D it’s at 9.3. I think you would have a hard time finding more than a few other games with such a high under score

Does anyone have Sonic Generations? Reviews have been shitty and since I have the PC version I didn’t feel a need to buy it on 3DS. Anyways at least I have Sonic Colors DS, just recently started playing to again and it amazes me how great it is, especially compared to the lazy, Rush series.

@rubixgroove: I doubt you’ll find a better handheld game with stronger scene that MH3. I’m sure many would say that’s reason enough to own 3DS.

Ever since seeing the Lost World trailer I’ve been wanting to play some good Sonic. Think I’ll pick up both Colors and Rush. Zoolander, can you give some more specific thoughts on Rush? Sonichuman, I’d like your thoughts on Rush and Colors (DS) as well if you don’t mind.

The only set back is that MH3U doesn’t have online…so if you got people around you that are playing that you’re cool with then you’re set. If you don’t it’s just going to be a tougher road ahead for you. I just picked up my copy for the 3DS since my wife has hijacked my Wii U to play Lego City.

I enjoyed both Rush games…more so the former one than the latter. If you’re playing with the understanding that it’s ā€˜hold right to win’ and ā€˜GOTTA GO FAST!’ then you’ll enjoy them. If you’re expecting something closer to Dimps earlier work with the advance games that were a bit closer to the original trilogy in terms of using momentum to get around environments and what not. Rush is the beginning of Dimps throwing that out of the window completely. Rush was far more memorable for me because it was the introduction of Blaze and the music is quite memorable since it’s mostly done by Hideki Naganuma (Rush Adventure had 1 track that stood out the most for me…actually I take that back 2 tracks). The special stages were a sort of homage to Sonic 2’s in the first one and I thought they were pretty well done and the stages will do lots of playing around between the 2 screens as you play (great example is Dead Line). I’d link a video to that stage but I think you should experience it yourself when you play it. Also I hope you don’t mind hearing Sonic’s voice when you’re doing tricks because you’ll be hearing ā€˜yeahyeahalrightcoolyeahcoolyeahyeahcool!’ a lot.

I haven’t played Sonic Colors on the DS but for the most part I’ve heard it’s like playing Rush 3 which you won’t know if you’ll dig or not until you’ve tried the first one at least.

If you want old school Sonic though I’d recommend picking up the Sonic Classic Collection which is probably the collection of the Genesis trilogy on a handheld. 1,2,3K and Sonic 2 w/K and I think Blue Spheres is also on it as well. The only flaw that collection had was the framerate is only a tad bit inconsistent. That’s pretty much the only thing stopping it from being perfect.

@bunz

I agree with Sonichuman in that you will find some enjoyment with the Rush games as long as you understand beforehand that they are fundamentally flawed and lazily designed. The Rush games encourage you to hold right and go fast while simultaneously placing roadblocks which stop your momentum instantly and often lead to death and these obstacles are usually unavoidable unless you know about them beforehand. This confused level design which attempts to put a bandaid on a deep gash kills almost any sense of actual platforming the Sonic series is known for, but there are enough moments of visceral fun just blazing through a loop or grind rail to almost make up for it. if you enjoy going fast with sonic you will enjoy the Rush games. I disagree with Sonichuman that 1 is better than 2, the varied level themes in 2 is what makes it better for me, and the special stages are pretty well done. If I were you I’d skip the 2 Rush games and just cop Colors.

Sonic Colors is leagues ahead of the Rush games so calling it Rush 3 is an insult even though its similar. It takes the fun of the Rush games but adds actual platforming and more innovative level design beyond hold right. There is backtracking and the powers add a really cool twist that enhance game play rather than being a heap shoehorned gimmick.

I really hope Sonic: Lost World is as good as it has the potential to be. I’ll be pissed if its just a port of the Wii U version.

scored LoZ:OoS…ages will come in a few days

I have to admit that I wasn’t really putting much stock into the 3DS. I knew a bunch of friends who had one, but it wasn’t appealing to me. However, with the advent of the new Pokemon games and the new Ace Attorney game, the 3DS is now flying high on my radar.

On a side note, I want to thank Orochizoolander for vehemently recommending the Shinobi game for the 3DS. I saw it for $10 dollars on Amazon and decided to snag it, even without owning a 3DS yet. The game looks and sounds like an absolute blast; not to mention I’m a huge fan of action beat-em up games, so I thank thee for the recommendation.

Right now, I’m just patiently waiting for a good deal on a 3DSXL. That, and the fact that E3 is bound to bring some new 3DS news. Maybe Nintendo will announce another 3DS model?

so anybody else pick up one of the zelda oracle games? i got me seasons and was wondering if the two games are vastly different from one another, or is it more like a pokemon kind of thing (as in not really different at all)

and oh shit i didnt know MH4 was gonna have online multiplayer, my life is fucking over lol.

The Oracle games are two completely separate adventures with their own unique dungeons and items. They are made where you can play either individually and have an enjoyable experience, but the real meat comes when you play both together and get the full story as well as certain items and quests that can only be completed when the games become linked.

Also, Oracle of Ages has more of a focus on puzzle-solving and using your head to solve situations whereas Seasons has more of an action focus with more enemies to dispatch and such. If you are a Zelda fan, play both these games immediately. They are awesome… probably the best thing Capcom ever did on a portable that wasn’t Monster Hunter or Mega Man/Zero.

I got Ages and am loving the fuck out of it. So good.

I just completed most of the Fire Emblem DLC…I don’t think im going to download the last one because my friend who stays on Lunatic+ says the shit is too hard for him so im like…fuck that noise the Future Past DLC was hard enough. Overall though I say the Fire Emblem DLC is worth it completely if your really into that emblem. I think in total Im at 600+ hours between 3 saves…and I still haven’t maxed out my renown.

I do want to say though, that Fire Emblem Awakening was more then worth me getting a 3DS. I think im almost ready to play another game…maybe…

Oh right Project x Zone is late June…let me get on that.

I’m late to the discussion, but as somebody with a lot of hours put into the game…

My advice; do not buy MH3U for the 3DS unless you KNOW you will have people to play with. Being locked to village quests is lame, and having to solo grind HR rank is especially lame. Good game, but a huge hassle if you’re solo.

EDIT: If you have a Wii U, the game immediately goes from ā€œAvoidā€ to ā€œABSOLUTELY A MUST BUYā€ on my list.

I’m plugging through Awakening, at the final battle right now. No idea why anyone would want to even bother playing it on the higher difficulties. the entire game boils down to being conservative with your formations and grinding.

I played it on hard or whatever the higher difficulty was to start. Got to chapter 18 or so (where you’re killing the different Valm generals) and said ā€œfuck itā€ to pairing everyone up to support-grind then arranging everyone in a row, then systematically killing enemies one by one by hitting them with five units at a time.

This is coming from a guy who beat the GBA Fire Emblems, too.

It’s that to a extent, you can use the turtle Rally,Support max strategy however you have to be careful on where you put certain unit’s like Olivia because even after getting Limit Broken…shes still really fragile.

this is the exact reason im not getting MH3 for 3ds. no online multiplayer is a step backwards big time. i had a lot of fun playing it on the wii. the multiplayer is the real game.

DKC3D really isn’t clicking with me for some reason, which is strange because I really love the original. Think it might be the physics of the game that might be throwing me off, I dunno

MH4 looks pretty snazzy can’t wait to get that, hope there’s G rank stuff though.

So, min-maxed several characters on Awakening and being in Europe am pretty much sitting around waiting for something which doesn’t hit Kjelle once for zero and then get brushed off into oblivion to become available to fight against.

Started playing Devil Survivor again now it’s been patched but goodness that game is hurting for a text skip button, when a game has that many endings it just becomes a pain in the ass not to be able to skip scenes, especially when the demons you are fielding by the 3rd or 4th playthrough are making everything but that one bonus boss a joke.
