Entering the save mode area is so eerie its unbelievable. Its so frightening to enter that room that it doesn’t feel like its gonna save you from anything. You got that woman in the background crying and its just… a different, more scary feel from older games. I love the game’s blocking/parry system. Being able to cancel most of your ground attacks to block/parry make it easier to fight when the attacking animations of the monsters have super armor. Ya know what all the mechanics in this game are sooo good. I wasn’t planning on getting this game, but I think I’m gonna have to get it. I can only imagine how intimidating these other bosses are gonna be. I know I’ll get scared shitless playing the full game. The game makes Trevor feel so weak and puny of a human, though his weapon helps him with all that a bit.

This game is cool because the 3D graphics allows for the camera to be free and move around and get interactive with the surroundings. When it zooms in on the character you can see how detailed the game actually is. After I saw the graphics up close I understood the framerate problems (especially when fighting the bats) and I didn’t feel one bit deterred from playing the game further. The way the music turns off when there’s nothing going on and then turns back on when there’s an enemy in the proximity is frightening.

Tips and tricks: - “Guillotine Final” (jump + hold X) is Trevor’s strongest attack. It also seem “unblockable” vs the enemies who have the shields. Beware using it though because you can’t cancel out of it during the final attack animations of the move. Cancel the start up of the move on the ground if opponents start to attack.
- Beware of flying axes thrown from the skeletons, you can’t block them. Dodge out of the way.
- Dodge (hold L + left/right) is very good for getting away and moving around. The dodge has invincibility? It also has rapid-fire feature so you don’t have to keep mashing this button (which is different from the other games), just hold it down and you’re good to go. Most of your ground attacks are cancellable with the dodge. Dodging (hold L + left/right) during the final animations of the move “Spinning Chain Final” (jump + hold Y) allow you to continue attacking with DMC style inspired attack strings.
- Dodging into “Guillotine Final” (jump + hold X) is too good. The move launches smaller enemies like skeletons as well.
- Use “Spinning Chain Final” (jump + hold Y) vs. the bats. Keep cancelling the move into itself using dodge. Finish them off with R when they glow white.

Using the finishing move R vs. enemies is the icing on the cake of this game. It’s what really pushed me over the “obsession” stage I have for this game. Being able to cancel any of your attacks into R to finish off your opponent is beyond satisfying.

Stay up late, turn off all the lights, plug your headphones in and turn the brightness down a little and get prepared for one hell of an experience.
I was grinding in SMT: Strange Journey then suddenly a low level monster hits me with an instant-death spell, sigh. The light instant-death spells have this cool sounds like peeeewwwoooom peeewoooom peeewooom.
Just read that they are making a Devil Survivor 2 remake for the 3DS like overclocked. I still haven’t beaten Devil Survivor 2 that last boss bodied me and I gave up gotta go back to it. If this remake is as good as overclocked then I would buy it again.
So is Atlus the new Squaresoft?
Some guy at work just offered me for his 3DS 100 bucks. I can’t say no to that even though I shouldn’t be buying shit right now. Catch is the handheld has no way to recharge cause its cable is damaged. I have to buy my own. All I need to know is how do I erase what’s inside the handheld? I want it cleaned out of old data
Same here, didn’t play the DS Devil Survivor 1 but Overclocked was loaded with good stuff to the point some aspects felt backwards when I finally played Devil Survivor 2. If they did the same as overclocked with new demons, a few new story aspects and definitely if they add another ‘Day’ for a playable epilogue.

Meanwhile, in trying to give myself a break from Fire Emblem, I downloaded the demos for Etrian Odyssey 4 and Castlevania MoF. I regret doing such because now I want both. I’m probably going to wind up stopping by Best Buy later today to grab Etrian Odyssey 4. Damn, I was trying to hold off for Soul Hackers, I guess that will be the one I hold off on.
tried the castlevania demo. meh to god of warish for me.

Tried the monster hunter demo. I like the feel of the bow weapon. It doesn’t feel too punishing in animation, though I bet the damage just sucks in comparison to something like the great sword.

I couldn’t figure out how to select what looked to be different arrow types, maybe that would speed up the killing of the Lagombi. I chase that asshole to 3-4 different zones and I ran out of time.

Camera sucks without a secondary stick.I really wish Nintendo just bit the bullet and included a secondary thumb pad above or below the buttons on the right side. It would have removed the necessity of having to use that godawful accessory.

Although I believe I played pso blue burst on pc without having free camera turn and did fine on it. The annoyance I guess is because the capability is there, they just chose not to put it in for some reason.

I just never understood the decision to include just one analog stick in the 3DS. It’s 2013; there’s simply no excuse for a controller to be without one. Sony got onboard the clue train with the PS Vita… why not Nintendo as well?
Iawata’s excuse: http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/nintendo-explains-why-the-nintendo-3ds-xl-doesnt-have-a-second-analog-stick/
IGN just gave Castlevania: MoF a 4.9…I know it’s IGN and all, but still…
The demo I tried didn’t impress me. It felt like the developers were trying to find a midway point between Symphony of the Night and the later 3D Castlevania games, with limited success. Combat in particular was needlessly drawn out. A typical Castlevania game lets you kill skeletons with one or two hits tops; here you have to grind them into bonemeal before they’ll stay down. Very monotonous. The control didn’t feel as tight as it typically does in a Metrovania, either.
Totally into Etrian Odyssey IV right now. The difficulty really keeps me on edge when wandering through the dungeons. Anyone wanna exchange guild cards? Can’t seem to find a thread for it so I figured I’d start here.
This morning I was thinking it would be interesting if MercurySteam made a 2D Metroid for 3DS. Then I saw this:
“Of course we’ve thought of making Metroid 3DS… and that’s all I can say (laughs).” -Enric Álvarez
