Ninja Gaiden IV announced, very little details so far

Time for a real ninja game.

*fires up Metal Gear Rising

Yea Abid, you play Rising yet? I know you said you got it recently, but then recently was also Christmas season so it’s not exactly like there is a ton of free time around this part of the year.

If you haven’t i recommend starting on Hard Mode.

They kind of addressed that in NG2’s mission mode. Green essence is more likely to appear with a large hit counter, but green essence was a dumb idea in the first place.

Green essence was a band aid for a problem the game didn’t have. Game really doesn;t need to reward you for combo score, it rewarding efficiency was a great incentive, NG isn’t DMC anyway.

Glad it beat you up, I find it funny.
It’s definitely not Gaiden 2’s slice through butter de-limbing system, start using combos ending with Y attacks to hurt enemies more.
Steel on Bone techniques recover health.
Steel on Bone, Obliteration techniques, Izuna drops, build Ninpo meter quickly.
Use your ninpo on enemies to recover health, just make sure it kills the enemies.
Wind Blades works well in groups, you can delimb alot of them with one Wind Blade, OT or SoB the enemies and quickly kill them with another Wind Blade.
Piercing Void can recover alot of health for you if you hit multiple enemies, and it charges very fast
Inferno can kill choppers in one hit, but is better used by saving the Inferno Ninpo meter in combination with the Meditation technique, which you can use at the end of every encounter to exchange Ninpo for Health Meter. Inferno meter will usually cover your entire health bar if full.

If you don’t wanna earn the money, you could always go bitch mode and do the scarab glitch lol

jimmy confirmed to walk the Path of the Ninja Dog.

Nah, Anarchy Reigns left a shit taste in my mouth so I wasn’t keen on Day-1ing another Platinum title again, even after the praise SRKers gave that game(which they also gave AR. I got baited.) I didn’t think AR was bad, it was really fun(especially for its price) but the combat lacked depth and I thought the multiplayer AND campaign sucked overall.

Might have it on Dec. 2nd or so, I get paid then, and it’s only $20. If I don’t have it by then, I’ll download and stream the PC version or something. Dec. 2 is when I’m hitting up my two usual spots that I shop at, so I’ll probably snag some other games too.

I’ve played every single action game this gen not called Rising(anyone even play Splatterhouse, Killer is Dead or Force Unleashed II?) So it should be interesting to play Rising after all this time. I hear development time was short, so it should be interesting to see what Platinum crapped out in such a short amount of time.

The MGR demo didn’t leave me as floored as it seemed to leave the majority. For the sake of fairness:

NG2 demo > MGR demo.

word

i know steel on bone recovers health, but is there a trick or glitch to getting it more often

good shit to know more about the game. i dont know, i just still am not a super fan of it. not downplaying what you said at all, but basically it was use steel on bone and a lot of ninpo to circumvent the stupidity of the default game mechanics of ng3re. which is fine, what works, works. it just is inferior to gaiden 2 imo, and i didnt think gaiden 2 was revolutionary in gameplay at all, just did what it did right, even for an unfinished game.

i dont mind earning money. i have a ton of it, but getting gold scarabs actually unlocks skills in the game, and i just prefer the old, get money, beat boss, by everything method of ng2. just straight forward, no treasure hunting.

i dont really use/abuse izuna drops. i havent cared to bother since its always so over powered and easy for instant kills and what not. i never really used it in ng2 either.

That painfully generic username was made way too long ago for me to care about it.

But how dare you diss the b-ball dino!

My gripe is still that the game makes SoB your best option. Regardless of difficulty, it feels like I’m just killing time for a SoB opportunity to arise. And yes, the health system SUCKS. It does make RE the hardest game even on Normal difficulty of any current release. It maintains that hatred of advancing in the game that you can find in NG1/2. And bosses outside of ToV all suck. Yes even the mask dude. I’ll take Genshin over him any day because Genshin gained my respect and I wish he was a playable character. I still didn’t beat it though. I ended up playing other games while playing YES ALL 3 NG releases juggling them thus becoming bad at all NG games again. But RE does still have that feeling of happiness when you slaughter everything in sight.

NG 1 and 2 are still better though. Just add Ryu’s Fighter outfit and Kasumi’s hottest outfit to NG2 and we can call it day.

[details=Spoiler]
Basic soldiers will Red Hand a bunch if you slide around them in groups until one grabs for you, or just de-limb and they go for it almost exclusively. Rocket Ninjas have way less health, so they can be de-limbed quickly.

Charging alot of the weapons and releasing it before it charges enough to do a Ultimate technique can get a bunch of random de-limbs no matter the enemy strength, or get you out trouble cuz the move will have some invulnerability frames. Try releasing a charged attack when a boss throws a wave attack(like Doku’s area attack when stabs his sword into the ground) and you’ll pass through unhurt

The heavier the enemy(like the mutants in the lab), the more damage you have to do or the longer you keep them blocking usually works, with level 3 weapons, XXYY, XX>YY, XXXYYY are good bnbs for most weapons. Kusarigama’s level YYY has great crowd control and can de-limb multiple enemies. Lunar doesn’t have an SOB, but you can still counter red hands with it the same way, but it’s awesome for groups and de-limbs if you wanna go the Lunar/WindBlade combo. Basically piss enemies off by not letting them hit you and they’ll start doing it.

Alchemists and Mages your best bets are getting combos with heavy attack enders that send Ryu airborne(like Sword XXX>YYY he spins forward in air so they can’t grab) and go for the de-limb.

With multi-enemy fights, you can get rid of tougher enemies by SoBing a soldier then SoBing a heavy enemy next…any fight with Archer or Rocket Ninjas, you can trigger Bloody Rage by quickshotting them with the bow, it instant kills, and 3-4 in rapid succession gets the rage and UT going.

You don’t have to abuse Izuna drops, they just build ninpo a bit quicker like SOBing or OTing, plus if you can de-limb or stun enemies with the impact if they’re nearby

I don’t mind the scarab system in this, Gaiden 2 was the only game that let you level up the weapons at any time if you had the essence to spend, and in this once you acquire the weapons, they carry over on the next difficulty in being available from the start of the game.

Dunno if the demo is still available, but you can grind that and import all of your karma spending points from any of the demo’s difficulties to the main game if you want a head start past normal.

If you’re really struggling, you can always use THE TACTIC. Pick the Scythe, get it level two, and master doing grounded 360+Y attacks. 360+Y, slide, 360+Y. Easily the most broken and powerful move in the game, it destroys bosses and pretty much everything else. Necessary if you wanna finish the Ultimate trials, but pretty boring everywhere else.[/details]

Yeah, SOB becomes a focus, but I’d rather them keep this health system and make it so Izuna, SOB, OTs, and even UTs with the way they work in this can recover some amount of health. I like having to manage everything within the flow of combat rather than buying tons of health items from Muramasa and menu diving. It’s the same with scoring system, if they make everything uniform without having a certain technique worth more points/health, you’d see a lot more variety from players with the combat system than everyone just doing “best overall thing”

Vanilla 3 is by far the hardest of the series, 2 behind it for me. If Razor’s Edge was set up to where you had to repeat entire sequences if you died like 1/2, it’d be meaner, but every fight is checkpoint as long as you keep playing, at worst you just reload a falcon save and manage your ninpo better.

Using the Steel on Bone mechanics makes me feel like Jesus, just like using Obliteration Techniques in NG2 did.

It’s easy to get SoB attacks off once you figure out the timing. You can even SoB those mage bastards, but the window to do so is very small.

Does that trick still work if I have the parry?

Yeah, you can wait for them to hit with first strike and block it, soon as it hits, slide away and you’ll get the Furious Wind. You can keep doing it again and again too, if enemy does multi-strike attacks, you flick the analog back and forth and Furious Wind until they give you an opening

bout to finish razors edge. took some time to play this evening. on last stage. turned it off for now though, didnt feel like finishing it tonight.

is ayane naturally stronger then ryu? i feel i plow through enemies much better with her. eh, anyways, SOB is cool, but id like to see it implemented another way in ng4. other then that, i would take nothing from ng3 or razors edge to ng4 at all. all the bosses sucked. im astonished how boring, redundant, and generally terrible they all were, but we will see if i enjoy them more on higher difficulties. extremely unlikely. the combat isnt up to snuff, and is rather dated imo, but give me like two minor tweaks, and its fine. they gotta go the mgr route the next game and incorporate stealth as a normal part of gameplay. so you can either go ham, or you can play the whole game murking shit from the shadows.

hmm, what else. oh, go back to the monsters, magic, ninjas, and gods, fuck all this technology shit. i like how ng2 had its modern moments, but overall it was still focused on mythology, magic, monsters, and murder, not battleships and transformers. dont try to ground ninja gaiden into something COD kids can maybe relate to. take away unnecessary qte’s, or at least give directions for the fucking thing on screen. lol, i died like 12 times in a row to the professor x dinosaur robot because i didnt know i was suppose to slide under him at the end. there was like no indicator thats what you should do at all. lol

well id say keep ayane and kasumi at the least, and add more characters to play as. focus on just making a good 1 player game, and then if you can, do that other online shit. stop wasting resources on multiplayer shit for a game no one minds playing single player. im going to be more skeptical of ng4 then most im sure, as razors edge is acceptable, but i just do not find it fun, and ng2 is clearly way way better. not to mention im a platinum games geek these days, so i have bayonetta and mgr on deck also, making me super snobish on gameplay and even story. razors edge is worth ten bucks max.

man, i know noobs must have been super frustrated with this game even on normal, if i had troubles, and i play these shits all day on their hardest levels. maybe im rusty on my ng, but not that rusty. sheesh. i mostly got off the rust today and solved a few of my issues, but found myself still uberly frustrated at certain parts that would be so much more simple had the game had better mechanics, and just generally more thought out in some areas, especially on bosses. eh

the three extra playable girls is worth the purchase at least. cant turn down playing them, especially as an xbox 360 owner.

I actually like having more mercenary enemies and stuff. I mean, I’d love to see more ninjas as well, but I liked the whole idea of cutting down on monster enemies. I want fiends to be saved for big boss fights or mini boss esque enemies, not fodder I routinely shred to pieces.

jimmy re-confirmed to walk the Path of the Ninja Dog. NG games have never been about stealth. To even think or suggest such a thing really means Razor’s Edge made you its bitch multiple times.

There’s stealth in MGR? Coulda fooled me. MGR has stealth like DMC is a shooter.

IIRC, there’s an option to turn the hints on so you know what to do at the QTE-like moments. Either way, I play with them off because I feel it’s a part of the challenge being able to react appropriately during those moments.

haha, word, but i think it would advance the series further, because it isnt going anywhere, and ng3 and razors edge are evidence of that. not to mention, well it would be dope, because it was kinda cool early on in the game, then you never use it again. to say ng has to be only about moving forward and murdering everything in your way like dmc or bayonetta is a bit short sighted, especially considering its a game about a ninja. lol. i wouldnt be upset if they didnt though by any means, but i think it would be a really nice edition, and shows theyre putting a lot more into the game, then this ng3 series nonsense.

also, beat da game, final boss sucked dick because i had no magic meter, and i had to fill this long ass bar that was longer then even my health meter. it took me like 5-7 minutes or more just to do UT’s with the staff over and over at level 1, with a couple level 3s, and a ton of OT’s, just to get the magic to summon the dragon. i mean, it was an extended long ass magic meter, and i had zero. i was like jesus fucking christ, and there was nothing i could do but tediously try to UT and OT my way to full meter over and over and over again. it was super dumb, and then the last part is just a breeze. gonna play on master ninja and fuck around later maybe, just to at least level things up, and see what kasumi is about.

games not trash, but its not what i desired as a sequel at all, and i got the better version of the 2. i cannot imagine how shitty and frustrating vanilla 3 was. oh well.

lol, what mgr are you playing? that game is all about finding the timing, or using various tools outside of forced interactions to stealth kill everyone there, and finding various different ways to stealth kill, because there isnt just one way to do it. its up to your imagination, if thats what you choose, unless you want to confront everyone and kill them all. there are tons of opportunities to stealth in mgr.
