Ninja Gaiden 3:Razor's Edge - Game out on 4/2 for PS3 and 360

What sucks is that UT spam is actually the only sensible way to beat the mages in the demo.

Played the demo for like 5 minutes, and died twice.

Felt more like, “I have no idea what I’m doing” than “this is cheap.” Game seems like it’s going to be as hard as people think NG2 is.

Will likely buy.

So I sat down tonight to try and unlock Kasumi. And somehow I actually managed to do it lol. Thank god the S-ranks are not as strict as MGR.
But holy fucking shit, Kasumi is legit. Out of the 3 characters, she’s the coolest so far. Her moves and executions are sick.
Love that totally impractical, but cool way she holds her sword. And to top it off she wears Artorias of the Abyss’ cape…Man that is so much win.
The longer I play this, the more hype I get for this game. Can’t wait.

I’m still feeling cautious about this. I got the mages with Ayane and got owned so fast. I don’t even know how. And the combat in general isn’t gelling with me like how NG2 did. For one thing it looks dark as fuck on my tv/PS3. I can’t tell when someone’s limb is missing so I just keep trying executions until I find a guy to execute then I attack someone else. I’m sure I can change the gamma though. I dunno. Just feels like something isn’t quite right.

Does RE keep the stupid wall climbing QTE?

Kunai climb? Still there. Pick Hayabusa.

There’s a really obvious sound effect when you dismember an enemy, the blood effect is really obvious too, so yeah you probably just needt to raise the brightness a tad.

Wait, really? That’s like a real thing?

Pretty much. They look nearly the same.

[details=Spoiler]It’s the 1st outfit (obviously).

Yeah Kasumi’s fun. Coudln’t get the S-Ranks for a day then realized I missed one of the gold scarabs. Looks like they’re going to work as overall score modifiers as well as pickups. Kasumi takes some swipes with her sword, I S-ranked a couple of missions on the first try with her.

Steel on Bone technique is kind of abusable scorewise, you can de-limb guys or kinda slide around waiting for them to glow red and hammer them with Y and then kill a few more enemies, and it seems crucial to getting the bloody rage mode going quickly for scoring purposes.

Man the more I play this game the more I feel like I realize no one at Team Ninja really understands good combat. Everytime I beat the mages, in either level, I feel like a total idiot spamming UT over and over, it’s just stupid.

The mages could be guard broken a lot easier in the original. Heavy attacks can guard break them sometimes in RE, but not nearly as often. It seems hard as fuck to chop a limb off those bastards, too.

If you guys think just a couple mages is hard, wait 'till you play the full game. Eventually those motherfuckers just come in waves, and I’m talking about the stronger version of these mage bastards that wear white robes, not black. Game is just relentless at times, but I love it. OT’s and SoB kills helps offset the buff to enemies, though, especially since you can actually heal now with SoB attacks instead of just getting health from ninpo/end of enemy waves.

You can still guard break them pretty easily by charging Y, it’s just catching the bastards afterwards. I’ve been charging Y for second or two, hammering through their block and then catching them with Y button combos were Ryu kind of launches himself forward and is airborne doing swinging strikes that catch them if they go left or right. On landing 360+ Y seems to work okay against them, and once they’re bloody you can catch them from that into Izuna drop occasionally, so I’m guessing when Scythe is available you’ll still be able to to do the Vanilla NG3 spam method of jumping/on landing 360 Y>Izuna drop. For some reason you could Steel on Bone them in the air in Vanilla lol.

Did notice you can Option Select Steel On Bone hits from On Landing 360+Y(with Ryu mostly) if you’re in a crowd. The on landing 360(motion, rotate analog 360 that is) and Y can transition straight into Izuna Drop, but if an enemy tries to do a rage hit(where they glow red) the On landing 360 will Steel on Bone them as soon as you hit the ground. The 360+Y is really good way to open enemies up if you’re struggling, like those white shitheads with the orange tonfas.

After getting all the S-Ranks…I think I’ve got my gameplan for Karma runs down. Cannot wait. So hyped for this after how disappointing vanilla was.

I’ve played the demo over a hundred times. Can’t wait till this game comes out it totally shits all over Metal Gear Rising and any other action game this generation.

Unlocked Kasumi last night, I’ve never played a demo so much! Can’t wait for the full release. Just so you guys all know, farming Hard difficulty is probably your best bet since it’s what is unlocked from the start and all Skills and Karma transfer over with no cap limit. As far as I know there is no pussies on SRK that would start this game on Normal or even Hero mode. Wish Master Ninja Was unlocked from the start.

haha what? over a MGR? a game with objectively better combat design? ok bro.

LOL. No…It’s not better than MGR. And even if it was, the best action game this generation? You know Bayonetta and Ninja Gaiden 2 came out this generation right?

I’ve been playing both NG3:RE and NG2 these last few days and there’s some questionable design choices in NG3. Although they added a few cool things in NG3, NG2 is CLEARLY superior. And NG3’s scoring system is reaaaaally dumb and kind of luck based.

But still, the game is great and I’m looking forward to it. And like Kyo said, rockin hard mode from the start. Normal is way too easy for me now.

Yeah NGII/NGSII still feels more solid and makes more sense overall combat-wise than NG3: RE. Everyone has different tastes though. Personally, I like the overall package of the Ninja Gaiden series VS games like DMC, Bayo and Rising. Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 are immensely satisfying to play, they’re the pinnacle of the character action genre for me. DMC and Bayo have way more combat options, but that’s not where all the fun comes from imo. The “flow” of Ninja Gaiden when you’re “in the zone” is an amazing, amazing feeling.

I played the demo for MGR and it was a breeze. I guess its good for those people that don’t like to be challenged.

Yeah because MGR never EVER introduces enemy variation or different tactics that actually make sense and unlike higher difficulties in NG3 doesn’t require just spamming a single attack.

I played the Demo and beat both Hayabusa and Ayane’s sections. Game seems very solid. Definately had alot of fun with it.

I couldn’t unlock Kasumi though. Just how do you unlock her in the demo? It’s rare that I find a demo that actually has unlockables.

This is just personal opinion, but I never understood why Ninja Gaiden II [not the NES one] gets so much praise. I personally hate that fucking game. It didn’t help that the patches made the game worse. I couldn’t skip cutscenes at all and the game suffered from more slowdown after the patch. It’s one of the rare games I have played where a patch actually makes the game worse
