Ninja Gaiden 3:Razor's Edge - Game out on 4/2 for PS3 and 360

welp im never going to unlock Kasumi.

So you just have to get an S Rank with Ayane then?

on all difficulties.

Oooooh.

That should take you two days tops man.

2 days longer then I wanted to play the demo.

Well, at least it seems like the S rank requirements aren’t as stringent as like MGR for example. He got several A’s and B’s for each individual battle and still got an S at the end.

Oh jeeze if it’s that lenient it should take you a day.

Gotta brush up on those steel-on-bone kills like I expected.

notes on the mages ayane fights:

If you attack them while they are neutral and not blocking, they will dodge and counter attack after taking one hit, so don’t over-commit.

If they are blocking, use LLHH or LLLHH and the H’s in both cases will break guard and hit them(stand alone HH doesn’t always do it). Don’t get greedy and attack afterward though, just dodge away after landing the two H’s

If they are in the middle of a combo string, don’t bother trying to attack them, you’ll probably hit them, but take damage in the process, and they won’t get stunned at all. Wait until they finish, then go in for a quick hit.

Parrying doesn’t feel too useful, but maybe someone can chime in on this.

Do NOT stay far from them for long, they’ll just spam the fast fireballs until you get closer or die.

lvl1 UT is great, but risky to prep it raw, do it after LLHH(or LLLHH or HH or if you’re lucky enough to get a knockdown).

At about 50% life they become susceptible to combos, so you should be able to finish them off with an Izuna Drop.

Hayabusa is similar but they are less agressive and easier to guard break, and give you more time to UT, so yeah.

ninja edit: Man, fuck Mages on Master Ninja with Hayabusa. All that matters is breaking guard with HH and lvl1 UT =/

Figured it was getting S Ranks for Kasumi…I grinded out all difficulties to A and bought every upgrade. Much better than vanilla 3, by far. I like the scoring system too…they brought back timed encounters…sort of. At least you get a bonus for fast killing now. But they brought chargeable UTs back in way that doesn’t break the scoring like it did in NG2.
Obliteration Techs: 300
Steel on Bone: 500
Bloody Rage UT: 1000
Charged UT: 100(perfect, still useable, but can’t abuse)
Raptor Kill: 1000(the fly down one)
Ghost Kill: 1000

Hope they dumped the stupid bug farming spots from vanilla NG3 so the leaderboards actually mean something this time.

With the de-limb OT system back to NG2, I can go back to combo chaining with de-limbs/OT. I like this.
Steel on Bone seems to really hammer de-limbed enemies when you hit them with it, was able to get vanilla NG3 style SOB chains and take out groups of 4-5 guys pretty quickly.

They react a bit different from vanilla 3, but you can charge Y or hit Forward+Y moves to armor break them then try to do quick combos that delimb the other guys to bloody them up(XXXXX works basically for both lol). Claws still work well against them, plus you can sometimes stagger them by Sliding to their left or right, then sliding back into them for a tick hit. Dunno why it works but it does.

Just found out that my usual gameshop will sell this for €30,00. Looks like this’ll be a day one buy.
Really happy I found this thread, because otherwise I wouldn’t have given it another shot.

Finally got my groove back on this game, only Master Ninja is still hammering my ass. I’m happy and sad at the same time that you can’t cheese with the UT spam anymore. That’s pretty much how I played NG2 on the higher difficulty’s lol. Get 2 orbs, charge UT, repeat. My fraudulence shows in this game.

BTW is there a way to consistently land the guillotine throw? I’ve been trying to land it for a long time, but I’ve only gotten it once.

I cannot beat these fucking wizards in paris. Had no problems with them on hard but on master ninja they fuck me up every time.

How do you unlock master ninja difficulty?

Beat Normal with both characters unlocks Hard, beat Hard with both characters unlocks Master. Beat both stages on each difficulty to unlock Chapter Challenge, then you can use Hayabusa on Ayane’s stage and vice versa. Have to level up everything again on Hard and Master

Simplest way is to constantly charge Y for UT, especially if they’re running at you, go for the UT. Just whip the camera around alot to see what they’re up to
If they throw the grid projectile at you while you’re charging just let Y go and you’ll get the armor break move to come out and it will go right through the grid thing. Slightly charged Y has invincibility frames on release. If they go for the fireballs use the Slide to escape, they usually throw the fireballs out in 2s. With Ayane, I found life was way easier if you get her swords to level 2 and have the counter attack move unlocked.

Once you have the stages unlocked in Chapter Challenge, you can choose Ryu’s desert stage and farm the first few fights for upgrade points by beating them, upgrading, then saving at the bird and quitting to the main menu. Ayane was frustrating as fuck with no powerups on Master.

The camera still annoys me and to my knowledge there is no lock on. Really irritates me when an enemy runs up from behind me and does a suicide grab without me being able to see the damn guy. Or worse, the damned rpgs.

So is Sigma 2 worth getting if you already have Vanilla 2 on 360? I feel like it’s a good choice to tie me over till Razor’s Edge comes out.

People only say get Sigma if you can’t get the originals so no.

Sigma 2 is okay, it’s just the sedated version of NG2. Some of the changes were solid in terms of leveling up, so pacing wise it feels a bit more like Black’s style of progression versus NG2 for me. Visuals are nice, but sacrifices were made in terms of enemy counts per battle, and the gushing blood is humorously replaced with purple mist. I dunno, players opinions vary heavily on it, I just didn’t like some of the changes with the enemies, like Incendiary Shuriken ninjas being far less in quantity but having massively increased health. They bring back some enemies from Black. The Amazon stage is less of a clusterfuck cuz the remove the green tunnel of hell. Some of the giant boss additions were pretty dumb though. The new Dabi style weapon was fun, and Ayane and Momiji were okay. They remove a lot of the projectile spam from enemies. It was just way more leisurely than NG2. Did like that you could sidestep with the bow while it was drawn.

I see, I guess I’ll just hold on my money and wait for Razor’s Edge, still got that Revengeance run to beat.

If you can do it in 2, you can do it here. I’m playing this demo, and sigma 2 for both vita and ps3, and it works with the same timing across the board. I only wish it acted like the nes Double Dragon 3 hair-grab flip throw and allowed you to chose what direction you throw the enemy.
