Ninja Gaiden 3:Razor's Edge - Game out on 4/2 for PS3 and 360

Or is it that the game is ridiculously easy to beat that they thought… our A.I is shit, so we’ll throw in a penalty for beating it.

Mr.BottleChi, your review fucking sucks and so do you. This game is a pile of steaming dog shit compared to Black/NG2. This game deserves the shitty reviews it’s been getting and hopefully Tecmo/Koei smartens up and gets rid of Hayashi for NG4, hell I doubt we will even get a NG4 at this point thanks to how shitty this game sold.

Anyone who thinks NG3 has a good story shouldn’t have children. I am dead serious. Your standards are too low.

Call it Point>Counterpoint if it feels like I’m shitting on your opinion too much, fuck it, too bad.

Call it “borrowing” or “utilizing” elements from Westernized action games if it makes you feel better, they’re welcome to the mechanics if they want them. But if sliding down a wall>Falcon Dive>Land on helicopter and then mash Y 12 times over the course of an 8 level game is “innovative”, copying is far from the game’s biggest issue. It’s copying poorly that hurts.

There’s not single Ninja Gaiden game that lets you “do whatever you want”, but this one comes pretty close, in that combat requires little to no strategy once the sword gets charged up. Ditto with the Slide/Furious Wind as it is in this game. Allowing you to interrupt any attack with the Slide/Furious Wind is God Of War territory. It requires very little commitment to succeed because you can easily escape enemy setups, consequences being that the enemies have to be even more bullshitty to catch you, resulting in the ridiculous amount of throws they execute and the near constant barrage Rocket and Gun ninjas. It’s more tedious than interactive, but to each his own.

NGB/NG2 have very rigid combat systems in that, aside from the Tonfa, there is no canceling combos. You have to commit, pick your techniques wisely and utilize them correctly. That feeling is non existent in this game to me. Once the sword allows you to go ballistic with chain kills and UTs, you’re just mashing X or holding Y, then watching the game play itself. That’s more simplification to me than innovation.

The story, you’re completely on your own with that one.

Alright, I think I get why he likes the story. Okay, roll with me here… NGIII has a pretty good story IF you look at it as a comedy. You know, like the Twilight series.

Well, I did laugh during the entire game.

Once I beat the main game, I beat all the Acolyte solo trials and a couple more, and I do agree that the combo system is jacked up next to NG2. Can anyone tell me with 100% certainty what the requirements are to execute a UT? Shit seems random, sometimes the arm/sword glows after a couple of kills, sometimes it takes forever.

I also despise how like Metroid: Other M, the main character was emasculated in the story. In both cases, you had a strong and mysterious central character whose mystique was actually a key component to their persona, and their spoken scenes and the unveiling of their “humanity” and history completely ruined the character. Both characters were turned in to fucking bitches, they’ve been tarnished. I fucking hate how Samus was in a panic when she encountered Ridley and had to be rescued by her teammate. The most independent and strong female lead in gaming was turned into a little girl who needs a man to save her, fucking deplorable. NG3 is almost as bad. I want Ryu to be a killing machine, not some emotional twit.

I still don’t think NG3 is a terrible game, I’m still glad I played it, and I did get some enjoyment out of it. It is the worst game in the series tho. I earlier said it’s a bout a 6 out of 10, and I still think it’s fair, but it definitely feels like a game that took a step backwards in several ways.

like i said the fact that i like the story is MY opinion and i dont push that on anyone. Also it doesnt feel like youre shitting on my opinion, stop assuming that youre winning an argument, when in fact the argument is not about right or wrong. I just dont like being insulted for having an opinion that i actually put work into. I could have just said NG3 IS AWESOME CUZ OF QTE’S AND A BUNCH OF RETARDED STUFFZ ALSO I WISH IT HAD MORE FATALATY LIKE STUFF FROM MK9 AND STUFF. But no, i dont speak like an idiot, i dont act like an idiot, and i dont think i should be talked to like one. Explain your opinion and I’ll respect it, i thought that others would do the same instead of acting like a bunch of fucking snobs. Why am i even doing this? this is a forum on the internet, why am i expecting people to be respectful or even logical to that end. Whatever, say what you like about me and my opinion, just know that things like that only fly on the internet. In real life there are consequences for being an asshole.

Going to start a fight for people calling your opinion dumb?

Honestly Mr.Mort i totally understand where you come from. But he was a killing machine, just with a duality of being human. I didnt like him being humanized, but detaching from his previous character, i found it interesting to see a man who would slay a soldier begging and pleading for his life become attached to a little girl. Also, people that say you hate the storyline so much, explain why? this is why i LIKED it. It had twists. The whole alchemist being canna’s father thing was pretty cool. how the scientist was taking advantage of canna’s rage to create the big demon at the end was cool to me. seeing Ryu hayabusa ACTUALLY struggle with something was cool. i mean i actually did feel bad about murdering all those people when they were begging for their lives, SO in that respect the story wasnt entirely poorly executed. the whole point was to make you feel like a murderer and it succeeded. I even had my wife telling me to turn it off because she was so sympathetic for the way i was cutting the shit out of people. this in my opinion is a good use of pathos (appealing to the audiences emotions) and i appreciated it.

not starting a fight just saying that dumb opinions should be called dumb while if someone actually has reasons they should atleast be treated with diginity

I’m raging. NG2 is such an amazing game, it was the 1st reason why I bought an xbox360 and I played it for hundreds of hours, completed it on Ninja Master and most of the trials…
I was looking forward to this sequel. Then… no weapons (yeah dlc which so far adds 2 of them), no weapon upgrade, no items, no need to learn combos since you can mash… enemy AI = zero…
I’d better stop here because my thoughts about this topic would require too much swearing to be expressed.
Hayashi, you destroyed one of my favorite IPs and now I hate you. Sincerely.

just saying, i could not mash through hard. at all. had to learn combos, and weapon upgrades throughout the game

This is why the story sucks:
-Piss poor character development.
-Cliche as possible akin to the Japanese dude who does karate with a headband. Cue the eye roll.
-They never do a proper job of presenting the and the ramifications of Ryu’s killing.

Honestly if you really felt bad killing people in NG3, your standards are too low. It’s like calling Goosebumps scary ya know? You know what made me feel bad? Provoked hatred for a character so much that I wanted to kill him? The scene in Berserk when Griffith become Femto and rapes Caska in front of Guts. Seeing Guts get so worked up that he cut his own arm off without hesitation to save the woman he loves from being raped by a man he once respected, a fellow comrade who killed all his friends for power. That moved me. Seeing Guts, a guy buff like Ryu who slayed countless enemies, driven to desperation, fail and even be brought to tears over the pain and his own powerlessness, that was moving. To become Femto Griffith had to sacrifice something important to him which was his personal allies. The ones who came back and saved his life. And he killed them all. To this day I hate Griffith. I had to stop reading Berserk because I got so mad.

So when I saw a playthrough of NGIII, I was offended by how weak it was. It came off as something written for children. Canna and Ryu’s bond? Literally random as hell because they don’t show them growing a relationship. Canna calling Ryu a murderer and then wanting to apologize was laughable. I could understand IF they showed Canna’s point of view and we saw how she came to forgive Ryu but nope. Does Canna even know what her uncle did? Does she even know that her uncle is the villain and not Ryu? Do we see any of this? Nope. She just wants to say sorry at the end.

It’s funny because there’s Ryu showing not a sign of regret as he enters mission after mission KILLING PERSON AFTER PERSON. And after all that what does Ryu do? Goes right back to being an assassin. So what was the point of all this? Nothing because nothing changed at all. What?! Honestly, can you even run away from the fights to avoid killing in NGIII or are you forced? Seems like you’re forced to me.

I played NGS2 a bit the other day due to this game supposedly being complete garbage. I got the “Master of Obliteration Techniques” and “Master of Enma’s Fang” trophies while messing around in Chapter Challenge.

I give a rats ass about the story, they coulda turned ryu into a metrosexual stripper for all I care, why the hell did they butcher the gameplay so much? No upgrading, only one weapon(2 more in dlc I know but still, 3 weapons?), no movelists, no store, no items, regenerating life bars(I think itagaki prolly punched a baby when he saw that), only one nimpo spell, QTE’s, women with A cups? WTF!!!

Im all for progressive thinking by developers, but when you sacrifice the core elements that made that game so special, you lose my backing. Plus Im hearing the game isn’t even hard anymore, all I can say to that is thank god for bayonetta. Hopefully devils third delivers that fast paced, difficult, aderanile fueled gameplay I’ve come to expect from ninja gaiden cause it seems team ninja have completely lost the plot.

The point of the story is not to give you a choice but to SHOW you what Ryu is REQUIRED to do as the dragon ninja. It is his JOB to kill countless people, because he is tasked with protecting countless people. I know that sounds weird but you get it (kill all those baddies to preserve the innocent) and yeah i see that it could have been more moving, but this is not exactly a movie nor is it a manga. Im pretty big on manga to so i understand what you mean in terms of actual character development, but just because this isnt what YOU were looking for doesnt make it bad. I for one wanted to know if all that killing ever meant anything, and it does! he has karma and it is his destiny to deal with it. All of that could only be INFERRED in previous entries, while this one explains it and integrates it into the story. and OFCOURSE he goes back to being an assassin! its not like hes killing innocent people, hes protecting the world from evil! what is he supposed to do? “Oh im building bad karma with all this life-taking business, fuck the dragon lineage im done with this shit” NO he manned the fuck up and took it. He even risked killing Canna at the end for the greater good, although im pretty sure he had faith the dragon sword would spare her, as muramasa said the true dragon sword can only vanquish evil.

also what im saying is that youre comparing the story to something completely different. Berserk is legendary in terms of story, how can you take a series that is known for ASS story and then compare their first attempt to actually flesh it out to Berserk? seems a bit harsh but high expectations are never bad

No. I am simply saying the story is ass because it is poorly done. Poorly presented. Poor character development. Gohan struggling with his issues vs Cell was done better. On paper the concept isn’t bad. But when it’s executed can be done horribly wrong. Some dev teams just don’t have good writers. And NGIII’s story reflects that. It comes off so weak I think it was targeted towards children. Also Ryu always came off as well composed. He kills and he doesn’t cry about it, doesn’t complain. Nothing. That’s his strength of character. By making him talk so damn much they ruined him. Same shit with Capcom and present day Akuma.

errr… well ill have to agree to disagree there. Gohan vs Cell was basically him throwing a temper tantrum because a defenseless thing was killed. i dont think this was directed to children, it is just too mature for that. Honestly if it was for children the tone would have been completely different. If anything NG1 had a childish story. “two swords, one good one bad. Go get the sword, oh btw your uncle wants to be the devil. Defeat him destroy the sword, problem solved” THAT is childish unimaginative and lack luster. thing is that NG3 story is between a good story and NG1 and 2 style story, in that they didnt want to emphasize it TOO too much so they didnt work as hard as they could have on it, but they also wanted to get SOME sort of story in there.
