Not sure how I feel about this news. The guys coming in from Namco certainly have a lot of experience with 3D fighters, and in particular, with the kinds of ambiguous frame traps Smash employs. But the movement mix-ups in Smash are really unique in fighting games, and it’s hard to appreciate them for someone who hasn’t spent a lot of time with them.
Hopefully the guys at Namco have the sense to convince Sakurai to bring back dash dancing and to remove hitstun canceling if they do nothing else. Either way, I have a sense that we’re going to see more George Lucas syndrome here, anyway, so the game will probably suck whether Namco is involved or not.

Something that I’m hoping they’ll do this time around will be to actually have another attack button with anoter set of attacks for each character. All 3 games have an extra jump button that I find to be unnecessary…that could be used for something else. Hell for Brawl it could have been the designated Final Smash button and you wouldn’t actually lose access to one of your special moves. Can you imagine actually being able to combo Samus’ Charge beam into her laser? That shit would be cash.
I think it’d probably more benefit with having another set of attacks…Final Smash could probably be activated using a combination of buttons.
Why the hell would you need a dedicated final smash button? That would imply that final smashes require strategy of some kind or that they’re a feature that you could unlock through regular gameplay as opposed to just relying on a random item. They don’t. Final Smashes are literally just “press butan to derpnuke”.
What you’re proposing is just redundant mapping, not an extra attack button.

Did you even read my post all the way? Some characters final smashes aren’t really OP. Do you know how hard it is to actually hit Mario’s FS if you’re actually fighting in a one on one match? That shit is slow as balls and so are the start up frames for Samus’ beams. Yeah you get hit with it it does chunky damage but trying to actually hit with those is actually more difficult than you think. I’ve played Brawl pretty extensively and really the only 2 characters final smashes that could even really be considered OP IMO would be Rob’s and Sonic’s. Marth’s is fast but you can dodge that shit on reaction.
Did you even comprehend my point? The point is that they require no skill to use and are MEANT to require no skill to use. Competitive players usually keep final smashes off. They’re not like hypercombos or supers where using them requires strategy or you do them as part of a combo. They’re literally just stupid moves that are for completely braindead fun and nothing else. They weren’t meant to be used seriously but merely as a means for fucking over your friends at a party. They have no merit whatsoever and are just for fun. Nothing more.
