This is a super noob question, but I skimmed this thread and didn’t find an answer, so can anyone explain what GJ actually does in terms of the mechanics of the game? I used to think it was like a shadow player that did extra hits for you but it looks to me now as if hits do extra hitstun?
that and everytime you hit your opponent while on the air, it will put him in juggle state
I got two problems and both with this combo from the GJ Thread:
after the f+fierce I have no problems connecting the first f+mk but the second one wiffs alot, thats problem number one.
And my other problem is, that after the second f+mk i’m rarely close enough for the palm to hit. is it a kara palm i have to do here ?
Thank you in advance
Your timing is not precise enough. After f+fierce, dummy juggle-animation begins, as usual. That 2nd f+mk whiffs, because the 1st f+mk does not connect at the juggle-animation maximum height and you don’t press f+mk x 2 fast enough.
f+mkx2-> normal palm, works on all big size characters. It won’t work on yun, yang, oro, ibuki. Those are exceptions. It is not necessary to kara palm unless you try it on these characters above.Practise more on your timing.
Ah, I already thought I’d be a problem with my timing, thank you.
Mh, I havent found any pokestrings yet, would anybody mind telling me some ? And what can i do to stop my opponent from jumping around like an easter bunny. I sometimes feel like you can easily give Yun the finger by just jumping non stop.
is lp, lk, mp, m.should supposed to be completely impossible or am i missiing something
It’s impossible. Only LP and EX shoulders combo after that chain. I vaguely recall some fancy stun combo that showed an exception, but don’t worry about those. If you want to knock down after landing that chain, go for HP lunge punch or HK upkicks (when applicable).
Ok, I’ve been playing this game for a good while but recently picked up Yun and I am working on the shoto GJ setup. Particulary the ending after RH dragon kicks…
For some weird reason, I cannot seem to do a jab shoulder after the RH dragon kick. Most of the time I get a lunge, and I even sometimes get a palm. Is there a specific timing on doing this? Only rarely do I get a shoulder. What the hell??
Put the stick back to neutral after you do the upkicks. Sounds like maybe you’re trying too hard to grind it out. If you still have problems then maybe you’re just rushing. Slow it down to proper speed.
Find some videos where you can hear the crowd yelling EY EY everytime yun hits (KO vs Daigo at EVO 2003 could be a good one)
once you get familiar with this rythm
remember that everytime they yell EY, something has to hit
with that mind, you will realize you have plenty of time between doing the input for both the dragon kicks and the jab shoulder to let go the stick and go back to neutral.
Thank to both of you.
It was my concern too that I wasn’t putting the stick back to neutral but even after realizing that I still seem to mess it up sometimes.
And maybe you’re right, I might be doing it a little to quick.
Oh well, thanks again. Now I at least have something confirmed which I can practice on. =)
Go YUN!
I’ve just picked up Yun and I got a good grip on all his B & B’s, links etc. but I cannot for the life of me seem to combo this after I activate Genei - Jin in the corner S.MP, F + HP. The training mode dummy always blocks the F + HP. I’ve gotten used to the juggle timing afterwards. I’ve tried this both fast and slow what the heck am I missing? Any help would be very much obliged.
if you’re too close to the opponent you’ll get close mp instead of far mp. iirc close mp, f+hp doesn’t combo. cancelling into activation from lp shoulder or chain combo puts you at the right distance for far mp automatically, which works out nicely for beginners. if you’re activating raw at close range, there are better options to go into a launch that are probably explained in detail in other threads.
wow. Thanks for the quick reply, now that I realize that it’s done with a far MP it makes much more sense. Now it’s pie. Thanks.
Picked up Yun recently, always mained Ryu but Genei Jin is so much fun.

Is there some trick to this or is it just spam mp as fast as you can? Can’t get my hands on 3S to experiment now =(
Just hold forward and mash strong and short
I’ve been practicing Yun with PS2 Emulator for PC (which has training mode)
um…how should i know i’m kara lung punching correctly ? i stand full screen away and then fierce kara lung punch,if it hits does it mean i’ve done it correctly?
and what combo is the most basic, good for learning Genei Jin?
I can’ active GJ after 123 Consistenly, anytips for getting it right ?
btw…can someone plz update srk wiki ?
First do a regular dash punch(whichever strength is fine) from the other side of the screen, pay attention to how far Yun goes, and then go back to the other side and do kara-dash punch(QCF+LK~P). If you did it right, you’ll see that Yun traveled a bit farther than before. The difference is very noticeable, so try it out.
A simple midscreen juggle is:
123xxGeneijin -> cr.MP -> HP -> HP Shoulder -> repeat until you get to the corner -> MP Shoulder if you have to -> f.HP -> LP Dash Punch.
A standard corner juggle is:
123xxGeneijin -> MP -> f.HP -> f.MKx2 -> Palm -> f.MKx2 -> Palm -> I think MK or HK dragon kicks -> MP Shoulder -> f.HP -> LP Dash Punch
Practice Geneijin combos on Chun first since she’s the easiest to juggle, then try it out on Shotos if you want to practice the kara-dash punch at the end.
If you’re having trouble activating Geneijin after 123, just do 123->LP Shoulder xx Geneijin. The damage scales, but it’ll help you transition to be able to just do 123xxGeneijin.
I can’t seem to connect anything after his command throw.
HK dragon kicks, LP shoulder, f.HP, LP/MP/Kara Lunge Punch
With or without GJ? :S
