Where can I go to find out all the terminology and jargin so that I can better understand what people are talkin about?
i think there’s no existing thread for that. um, just ask me what you want to know, i’d try to help you out.
hey can any1 help me with mag’s most basic of infinites? Like even spell out the abbreviations if you want because i keep doing it wrong or don’t know it at all thanks so much!!!
The most basic infinite of Magneto’s is the Rom infinite, made by some japanese guy. History lesson over lol. ok here are the inputs.
super jump light kick x 2, airdash downfoward, super jump light kick x 2, repeat. There are many variations of it. To see them you should go to the ROM thread.
:d:+:lk:, :d:+:hp: (basic launch), Super Jump, :hk:, :df:+:2p: (Air Dash Down Forward), :d:+:lk:, :lk:, [Land, Super Jump Up Forward, :lk:, :lk:, :d:+:2p: (Air Dash Down), :d:+:lk: (Do a slight pause), :lk:] Repeat in brackets. This is the most basic ROM inputs.

From 8-15 you simply just repeat the method to keep them in the infinite. On big characters like Blackheart, Sentinel and Juggernaut you would do the same method but instead of going down 2 hits you gotta go down 3 hits to keep them in the air since they drop faster. Just add a :lp: between 10 and 11.
ROM is basically based on timing and execution, it’s best to do it on big characters like Sentinel or Juggernaut to learn faster. I typed it out twice just incase you couldn’t read the first part, if you don’t know the icons just hover over it with your mouse to get the tooltip. Hope this helped.
You forgot to mention that he needed to launch the character.
thanks so much! i got it!
oh shit my bad lol
I’m looking at Magnetro’s basic tutorial on youtube and I can’t do the first thing he shows: Neutral jump, triangle dash (whatever its called) and j.hk simultaneously.
How do you do that?
I think you’re just trying to add+hk?
Sj, addf, sj.hk
:d::u:, :df:+:2p:, :hk:
Sj=Super Jump
Addf=Air Dash Downforward
On the hand position I have my index (lp) and middle (hp) finger on the punch buttons and I use my thumb for hk. I use claw method but there’s various ways of doing it just gotta find what’s comfortable to you.
When I look at it on the video, it looks like the j. hk starts at the same moment he starts the downward portion of the triangle jump. I can’t make it come out that fast…
EDIT: Well using my thumb took care of it. Trying to use my middle finger for j.hk was taking too long.
I’m sure this is just the tip of the iceberg but it’s crazy how fast you have to be with your hands to do that combo.
Speaking of speed and hand coordination… just recently started seriously playing MvC2, attempting to learn Evo techniques; advance gimmicks, etc. But I’m learning all these things using a Playstation 2®.
It’s been a struggle for me, is there any specific buton lay out or command suggested?
The default button layout for the PS2 is probably the best thing you’ve got. Square and Triangle being LP and HP respectively. X and Circle being LK and HK respectively. R1 being two Punches and R2 being two Kicks. L1 being Assist One and L2 being Assist Two.
If you want to triangle jump and do HK asap then just do exactly what you need to do. In your case I’ll list them with PS2 buttons to make it easier for you to understand. Super jump and instantly hit R1+down forward and then Circle. It should be a face pace of just drumming from R1 to Circle. If its too slow it’ll probably just whiff so you need to get it so its on point. It’s really just practice.
I grew up playing it at the Arcade’s but I also can play it on DC controller or PS2 controller. Arcade stick preferred for me though but I can still do everything with the PS2 controller. I’ll try to record some videos or something to help you out.
Do you mind posting a URL to the video so I can see what exactly you’re talking about? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a j.hk being as fast as sj.hk.

Watch the first few segments.
For me to be able to do nj, addf, j.hk I have to start the add (air dash down. I dont think he’s doing addf) at the very peak of his jump because if I do it too early, then the j.hk wont come out, and he’ll just land.
Your advice of using the thumb has taken care of it, though. That helped a lot. Now its just all practice.
Care to add me on XBL? We’re on different coasts, but it’d be cool to see some skills.
Oh I’ve seen that video before, shit didn’t help me but I got an idea of what was going on since he was using slow mo. I got a couple of old ass videos of me messing around with Magneto, pretty much testing out my TV tuner card but you can check them out by searching my name on YouTube.
Anyways on that Magneto tutorial video:
-
0:12-0:22: He’s normal jumping as he starts and then super jumping with the otg (off the ground) hk. It’s pretty useless cause your opponet can roll out of that (mentioned in the video). You’re better off doing Magneto’s 5 fierce.

I forgot the guy’s name that was on here but he helped me with the same problem you had with the add+hk and told me the hand position and I just went from there.
I would add you on XBL but sadly my Xbox 360 has the RROD for the 5th damn time and my gold subscription just ran up. I’ve been down for about 2 months now, that goddamn console disgusts me with a passion. I wish it could fit in my toilet so I could flush it down with the rest of my shit.
I still play it though on Dreamcast, messing around with Sentinel and he’s even worst than Magneto.
Arcade > Dreamcast > PS2/3 > Xbox
Cool man. I’ll work on it.
can any1 tell me what i am doing wrong… for mag’s basic infinite: c.hp, sj, hk, addf, lklk, land, super jump, lk lk, addf (here is where I end up underneath and on the other side of the character before the second set of low kicks) then lk lk to finish… am i not addf’ing fast enough after the first set of low kicks? Or should i pause or something…I’m training on cable because he seems like an average sized character anyways.
Try doing lk lk addf cancel the dash into another lk. If you know how to Kara throw in other games then Kara it. LP+HPxxLK~LK in the air. Hope that helps. After you addf you need to input the FIRST Lk very fast and slight pause second lk.
I would upgrade out of the ps2 asap… it’s crap. If you aren’t used to proper marvel it feels ok… but it’s not. There are so many frame dumps/skips/ect that doing many of the advanced combos in the game can be 90% harder.
Can get a used dreamcast on ebay for like 10 bucks probably… if you can’t manage the upgrade to ps3 or 360.
