Newbie guide: Venom PS4 / Mayflash V2 Full Sanwa (/Seimitsu) Mod with Octo for £116 [UK Pricing]

Signed up just to thank the OP for this guide.

Was browsing and the forum convinced me to get the Venom stick, but having never modded anything before was a little apprehensive till I found this thread. Was surprisingly easy to do, just need to think about artwork now.

Thanks!

Brilliant. I was in the same boat but found it very easy to mod. The only thing to be ware of is that the clips on the buttons eventually wear off if they’re pulled out and pushed in too much (like if you need to change artwork several times). I’ve only heard this but it’s something to bear in mind

Got my artwork printed this morning at the Fuji shop, matte photo paper, it looks top notch. Not looking forward to cutting out though, got a couple just in case I botch it :o

Arcadeworld have shipped my parts too and SFV has shipped!.. Oh and I’m off work for a week from today too =)

Is it obvious which way to connect the jst cable? That’s the only thing I am apprehensive about.

I

I didn’t feel it was obvious tbh. Read my part about the cable carefully.

Ultimately I would suggest you disconnect your stick, hook up the cable, connect your stick (while the guts are all out), and move the stick. If all 4 directions work, you’re good. If only one works, you’ve got it the wrong way around.

Cheers fella, like you say its probably best to test it before closing up the stick.

Hey  Not sure if you’d know or not, but do you reckon it would be fine to use the stick from my Madcatz pro that I had for xbox 360? Then just order the sanwa buttons and the JST

I’m not sure sorry. Calling @PresidentCamacho!

No worries man! Maybe I’ll just try and and if it doesnt work I’ll order a stick  or just save some money somewhere and use it to buy the stick. Maybe sell my copy of marvel vs capcom 3 haha

Yes, that lever will work. The Madcatz pro has all Sanwa parts- if you’re going to cannibalize the lever, you might as well save some money and cannibalize the buttons as well, assuming you don’t have other plans for the pro. You could even sell the pro’s shell and pcb if you wanted to make some money back.

Thanks for the information! I may think about doing that with the shell and PCB to be honest! The only reason I wanted to buy buttons too was because of the colours so it matches the artwork I will have on it, but they’re not too expensive.

Sorry for all the questions, but I’ll still need a new JST cable for the stick to be put into the Venom right?

That’s the easy way. You can also splice a 5 pin joystick harness into the existing wires, ideally with a terminal strip.

Yup buying a new JST deffinitely sounds like the easy way haha. Thanks for the info! I can get on with modding it soon in that case.

Just had to say cheers for the guide on this. Now to save up a few £s for a Sanwa stick to replace the stock one and I’m all set

Thanks for guide.
In the guide it said if you have 2 washers to put one inside and one outside.
I can’t see what good the washer on the inside is doing.
Is it necessary?

I don’t think it’s necessary but it prevents dust if it’s on both sides

Thanks sine two . Just waiting on my parts. It’s a shame venom didn’t start with sanwa parts but then I suppose we would not have the fun of doing it ourselves.

Hey sinetwo, thanks for the awesome guide, just used it to mod my stick.
I went with a Seimitsu LS-40-01 rather than the JLF after reading up on which stick I may like, so the process was slightly different and I thought I’d add my alternative steps if anyone else is thinking of using a LS-40-01.

For steps 10 and 11, the LS-40-01 screws directly onto the case so you want to remove the metal plate that may have come attached with your LS-40-01 and then use those screws to screw the stick to the casing. You want to use the four holes closest to the joystick hole. Note that you want the 5-pin connector to be facing towards the buttons:

To connect the stick to the PCB, you want to use the same cable as in this guide and it plugs into the PCB in only one way and when you plug it into the stick’s pins you want the side with the more exposed metal to be facing down:

Here’s what my stick looks like in its final form:

Vyrus, great stuff. I’ll edit my original post and link directly to yours, for those using Seimitsu

Can someone put another link for the 5Pin 2.54mm Pitch Female to Female JST
