New trick up our sleeves: The Hsien Ko changelog

Did anyone catch Chris G playing Hsien-Ko as part of a troll team on 8WayRun last night? The commentary was both funny and kind of saddening. Poor Lei Lei (soon to be called Fray Fray by parrots everywhere)is truly the Zoidberg of the MvC3 community.

: (

But Zoidberg is awesome.

Chris G wasn’t doing anything special with Hsien-ko. Spending meter in Rimoukon needlessly and dropping ABC combos.

holding two-button dashes is the trolliest.

Speaking of dashing, a friend showed me an easier way to plink dash by canceling S into any two buttons. It seems the window to cancel a launcher with a dash is slightly larger than canceling any normal into a dash. I’m preferring this way of plink dashing now cuz it feels like not much rhythm is needed to move at a optimal speed when using the old method. This also makes it easier(imo) to plink with M&H and attempt option select throws.

So, with input display, your plinks should look like
()L
SM

or
()M
SH

Well, yeah. I’m sure he didn’t know how to play her.

That’s cool with the plinkdashing. So overall, you’re only pressing three buttons (the parenthesis are blanks)?

That’s a really cool discovery… (I am saying this with Iron Fist in mind lol)

To eeerryyone here!

She looks yummy.

In attempt to revive this thread, anyone have any strategy against Dante, assuming that people still use Hsien-Ko? Out of all the character I’ve fought, Dante seems to be giving me the most trouble, even more than someone like Dormammu or Vergil since at least I understand the match up there more.
A projectile battle seems to always end in a stalemate except Dante can open me up with a well placed teleport and calling assists is risky when he can counter it with a hyper. With Hsien-Ko being slow and all, it makes her an easy target if I try to rushdown. Dante’s normals out ranges Hsien-Ko’s for the most part and that’s just asking to be scooped if I try to close the distance. The only thing that seems to be working pretty consistently is doing the H pendulum and force him to block it and start my offense from there, but even then, I feel that it isn’t too reliable unless the pendulum is really that abusable.

Just activate rimoukon, gong H, hard tag xD

lol, I actually forgot about that. Though, I do it pretty commonly if my Haggar is still alive. Haggar is usually dead if Hsien-Ko has to fight so that’s where my dilemma comes in. I could do it and hard tag to Arthur, but I don’t feel very comfortable on using him on point without xf yet, so I kind of try to avoid it unless my Arthur improves. I don’t want him to die then get stuck with Hsien-Ko as anchor.

Well, in that case, try to predict the teleport and counter with Tenrai ha. I think Hsien-ko can’t really do anything in this matchup aside from the obvious Rimoukon and mindless rushdown. Dante has way too many tools and he can counter everything Hsien-ko does with his long range normals and specials. Gongs are worthless because Dante Stinger has projectile invulnerability (correct me if i’m wrong, i’m not a Dante player). Maybe j.H, s.H, Edoga and Anki hou M (at a safe distance) are Hsien-ko only useful tools against Dante.

Wow, this hadn’t been updated since Valentine’s Day.

Funnily/sadly enough, Dante zones Lei-Lei out (so… many… tools…). I’d go with just golding up, yeah. I’d also rummage around in LL.ND’s footage to see what he does. Or maybe he has a strategy.

Yea, I think I’ll just golden armor then tag out to Arthur. He gets some great use of that assist. A gtfo to improve his defense and a lockdown to set up his high/low mix ups. I’m mostly brought this up since I have a tournament this week and Dante is one of the characters I’ve been fearing the most. I’ll try my best to represent the dead girl against the army of Weskers on the east coast.

One tip to the teleport thing: Try using an anti-air assist whenever Dante does that.

I’ve caught a couple of Dante players by using Hulk’s Anti-Air Gamma Charge, though I’m not sure if the same strategy works with other characters that has an anti-air assist.

Hsien-Ko’s movement is too slow, the startup on her “teleport” is too long and the recovery of Henkyo-Ki and Anki-Ho is too great for her to fight any character who can teleport without gold armor. The crappy thing is that if you gold armor, all they need to do is just run away and you’ve just wasted a meter on a useless 5 second buff. When I have to take on Dante, Vergil, or any other character who favors teleports for their crossups, I end up super-jumping a lot, throwing in an air Senpu-bu for an attempted mixup then drop on them, or I rely on an assist to close the gap.

Its been awhile since I’ve played but what’s does super jumping do to Dante or Vergil teleports don’t they track you?
I could see it getting rid of high/low so that’s good but is there something I’m not seeing as an advantage?

The majority of Vergil players will teleport either directly in front of you or behind you, with an assist thrown in to cover the recovery or create a mix up. Super jumping eliminates the chance of getting crossed up. In Dantes case if you super jump and they teleport you can air throw him for free.

Posting in here just to say that the LL.ND vs. Noel Brown match last night had my heart in my throat. Amazing, especially the Lei-Lei’ing.

After watching that, I think I need to learn some actual XF combos with her. Also, good uses of hyper armor on point just to reset the neutral game.
