I was in a situation where it should have happened today, and it didn’t, so… so far so good.
Thanks for watching guys. I’m happy I made it to top 16!
I remember getting two air throws off and Chris couldn’t really follow up after either one due to: one, chris cannot combo into cr.H if he does a back air throw against a foe next to a corner. The cr.H bullet will completely whiff unless you are giant(sent, nemesis). The other time I did a air throw was straight into a fire puddle just about to expire. I could’ve mashed out S, but this situation doesn’t usually happen so I got a little disorientated there.
The rest of the match was me just taking the jitters up the ass resulting in all sorts of dropped combos.
My biggest mistake. I wanted to make sure ammy was dead, so I blew x factor, grenade launcher dhc into either TRH or chireitou. TRH would’ve done the job but left me in a disadvantage where doom would be close enough to punish a raw tag so chireitou it was. My hands just didn’t catch up with what my mind thought of and I was already super jumping towards doom instead of raw tagging back to chris. Argh.
Oh yeah, looks like the gold armor glitch is gone. Good riddance.
You might want to ask Hsien-Jo since he uses team Darkstalkers. There might be some others who uses that team, but I know for sure Hsien-Jo uses it.
That’s understandable. I had to watch the clip twice to know what the hell happened on that moment. Good job nonetheless on getting top 16!
So, I want to change the topic a bit and talk about on dealing with anyone above Hsien-Ko’s head, which I’m pretty sure is her weakest spot. Is there some kind of decent option Hsien-Ko has against anyone super jumping into her above or dashing directly into her from above? Most of her tools only cover the horizontal or diagonal space. She only has an air grab, St. S, or Anki Hou H for any kind of vertical space defense, but they seem to be bad options. Her air grab leaves her with no options afterwards, St. S is risky if blocked and still gets beat out by a lot of attacks, and Anki Hou H is too random to be reliable and even after a hit, they’re still above her, the spot Hsien-Ko doesn’t want them to be. I only know that simply teleport dashing behind them if they super jump into her with little air mobility is one way to get out of that situation, I but see it an useless tactic when dealing with any who can air dash down or teleport above her where Hsien-Ko won’t be able to react fast enough to escape. I think this is why her zoning game seems bad. She simply has little to no options on dealing with anyone above her and combined with her slow mobility, she has trouble escaping. However, can there be possibly something Hsien-Ko has that is overlooked that can reliably help her? If not, what about assists? Anti air assists could help her out, but I haven’t tried out that yet. I think anyone that can help her control vertical space would be great.
I brought that up because I think no one else really talked about her zoning game and we already went over on her mix ups.
I thought her standing S was changed to only being -3 on block, that’s pretty safe unless it whiffs. But even so it would trade or lose out in most situations. As far as assist go to protect that spot right above her head I’d go with with Hulk’s anti air gama charge or Trish peekaboo assist, or maybe even Storm lighting attack. Her forward medium works as a good anit air if positioned right, and now that it’s jump cancelable you can get a full combo off of it if you’re ready. Although against teleporters she really can’t do much by herself other then to block and punish if she can.
Ranadiel also plays Team DS, though I haven’t seen him around here lately.
As for assists, I think Gamma Charge is the best AA assist for the job. I’d like to hear what Discovigilante has to say on that. I don’t tho I there’s much she can do on point with that blind spot, though it’s a spot a good number of characters have trouble dealing with.
And I know I’m repeating myself, but great job on making it to Top 16 LL.ND! I think 13th against most of the country’s top top players isn’t too shabby after all’s said and done.
assist wise i am currently using hsien/peekaboo/vajra so i have the peekaboo in the air however because i move around a lot it’s not always above me but i’m aware as to where it is and i have vajra somewhat stunting their air approach from further out. i also run a hsein/task/hawk and i have to chicken blocking like a champ i really don’t think there is much we can do i really like the preemptive use the extended hit box of 7h and if i know the attack they’re using doesn’t have the silly hitbox extended behind them i 2h to slide under them. but the chicken block is all i have i don’t really know what else we can do to protect our head
Speaking of hitboxes and anti air options above her, is anyone by any chance getting the Vita version of the game? Stupid how that version gets the useful modes, but whatever.
Also, have you guys noticed any ninja tweaks? I know Chris got a good buff, and Hulk got a minor nerf.
If they block the St.S on the air, they’ll recover quicker, which then I’m sure Hsien-Ko can get punished afterwards. Correct me if I’m wrong on there. Those assists could work, and if there’s some who uses those characters are willing to give out their results from having those assists would be great. In fact, I think that should apply to every assist that can help Hsien-Ko greatly, not just anti air stuffs.
It’s true about a lot of characters having an issue on that spot, but Hsien-Ko’s case, I believe it’s worse than normal. At the very least for other characters, they can air grab them out of the sky and combo out of it, while Hsien-Ko is stuck with an air grab that gives her no options afterwards, not even some type of mix up except on the corner.
Completely forgot about Strider’s assist. I can see it being good for Hsien-Ko, but I don’t use Strider, so I wouldn’t know how good that would be.
My former team was Hulk/Hsien/Dorm and Hulks anti air gamma charge is amazing. It’s pretty much safe to just throw it out there since it damn near plows through everything. As for other assist that would be good, definitely Doom missiles. It forces people to stop pressing buttons for a short time, letting you mount some type of offense. Haggar assist can cover Hsien-ko’s terrible defense and now that lariat doesn’t cause a hard knockdown she can combo off of it. Tatsu is also good for the simple fact it’s a damn good assist that benefits anyone.
I personally don’t think Strider assist is good for Hsien-ko. Since it causes a hard knockdown she can’t do anything if it hits. Anyone that knows that will just take the little bit of damage from Strider to get in, then maul your ass when they stand up.
EvuL, you used Iron Fist for a bit. Does the kick assist help cover those angles? Or any of her other problem angles for that matter?
I don’t know why I never thought of haggar that makes a lot of sense I may try that out.
and you’re right about vajra you don’t really get much out of it in terms of damage but I really get a lot out of it when its blocked and I’m in range because it pushes them to the ground and forces them to deal with the high low mixup
It doesn’t cover anything above Hsien-Ko, but it does cover the jump in area in front of her. It’s a decent gtfo assist for Hsien-Ko because of the really high priority, but Hsien-Ko can’t get much out of it on mid screen except to get some space.
Yea, Haggar’s assist is pretty good for Hsien-Ko. Unlike Iron Fists’ assist, Hsien-Ko can easily combo out of a hit from it. The only flaw I can think of is that it damages the HSD for Hsien-Ko pretty badly for some reason. A jump cancel combo with Edoga is really difficult, at least for me, but a combo from F.M somehow works fine.
If you’re pairing Hsien-Ko with Hulk, yeah, Anti-Air Gamma Charge (b) is essential. Helps her get out of really difficult mixup situations. Regular Gamma Charge (y) is also really good, and gives you Gamma Crush in Team Hyper Combos, so… it’s between those two for me.
I hope everyone had a happy Christmas. A somewhat belated but most definitely related pic:

Okay, the Gong is starting to get on my nerves. I had a Magneto pull off the Wesker gun shot shenanigans with his Disruptor by blasting through the Gong multiple times, then another Magneto did the same while on x factor level 3 but the Gong actually nullified the beam, despite the speed increase. I’m starting to think any projectiles that travels instantly or incredibly fast are the ones that have weird effects against the Gong. I guess another example is Chris’ Magnum, which from my experience, often hits Hsien-Ko and the bullet still gets deflected and hits Chris as well. And yes, I’m a bit salty from losing two thirds of my health against a Magneto.
That cheered me up. Happy late Christmas for everyone here!
Happy late Christmas guys! I got a nice “gift” that I’ve been waiting for too. I asked my friend for a commission that I could put on my stick. Now my HRAP V3 SA is going to look a lot better. ;D
Props to EvuL Soldier to getting his video in its own article on the front page!
What can Hsien do by herself? I can see the potential for good zoning/counter-zoning strategy with a long range assist, or a decent pressure game with a lock-down assist but what’s her general game-plan? Gongs don’t go full screen, but does item toss do any type of chip, like PW evidence? I find it hard to believe she’s in it just for the powered-up assist.
Heh, thanks! While the video was mostly about Haggar, I’d like to point to out that the DHC to Tenraiha can work despite using a ground bounce early on during the combo. The anvil has to whiff and the spiked balls has to hit first. Since the anvil stays on the screen for like a second, it doesn’t really matter if the anvil hits before it disappears as long as a spiked balls hits simultaneously. I think LLND said that before when he talked about DHCing from Chris’s Weapon Sweep to Tenraiha.
I think her general game plan is to be basically annoying. Frustrate the enemy by creating a wall of gongs and use her ranged normals to force them to respect them. Having an assist for that also helps. If they get frustrated, you could find an opening to get a combo going. Rushing down can work if you can force them to block, but like you said, she needs a lock down assist. However, I think most people thinks only the armored assist is what she only has because her worst match ups are the ones who can get past her defense and go behind her which are the teleporting characters who happens to be higher tiered and popular characters, so yea.
forever a mere annoyance.jpg
On the note of DHCing from hard knockdown hypers into Tenrai-Ha, Gamma Crush into Tenrai-Ha barely ever works… Chireitou works though!
