Hsien-Ko’s pendulum actually goes right through Maya, I’m assuming it’s due to the whole you can’t pushblock it thing. But my friend was playing Wright all night, and when he snapped in Hsien, I could actually just swing through Maya. Matchup is nowhere near as scary as I thought, just rushing him down and trying to get a good high low mixup worked quite well.
I didn’t notice a problem at all, just cancel it with j.h and j.l and you still have good overhead capability and can occasionally block in time. Just don’t full screen air dash. If you need to get across the screen try plink dashing.
Another note on Nemesis - fuck’s sake it’s hard to deal with this guy when he’s at full screen. Even with gongs, the explosion will always hit and damage Hsien-Ko, his launcher’s range is ridiculous both horizontally and vertically and is fast to boot, his charging attack is armored, and then those tentacles… Even the worst Nemesis will be tough for Hsien-Ko.
Anki-Hou helps in this fight due to it’s speed, but if you get a bomb, she gets mauled.
I don’t think nova’s bad at all. He has a slow momentum based air dash similar to iron man, so just poke him out with f+M. If he’s gonna turtle, don’t bother with gongs, the javelins will go straight over 'em. He’ll likely set up a H gravimetric pulse barrier(which automatically takes away all his red life) and spam energy javelins. Just keep moving and once the barrier is gone, you can throw anki hou(hopefully you don’t get a bomb) at him to make the javelins disappear.
I’m having the most trouble against ghost rider right now, he just out ranges everything you do and it’s such a chore to get close to him. And if you do close, he’ll start using his abuseable heartless spire to put you back at square one. It’s not worth using gong at all, you may nullify his projectile but he can just walk up a bit and whip you out of it. Fuck this guy.
I haven’t played much nemesis, but his tentacles don’t seem as ridiculous and his rocket launcher is kinda bad so I don’t bother with gongs.
Also I got the guide and some things seem kinda inconsistent from what we know/were told. Frame data is exactly the same for the most part. It does say L gong’s recovery is now 10 frames less, M version 8 frames less, and the H version is the same from vanilla. Chireitou has the same amount of start-up before, but doesn’t mention the blades traveling faster. Her cr.M frames are exactly the same, but the capcom change log states that her cr.M got reduced start-up and less active frames.
I’ll take that advice up on Nova. It’s probably less real issues and more figuring out the matchup. Ghost Rider gives me the same problem as you mentioned - getting in on him is a huge chore, and you can’t really toss out Anki Hou from full screen because most Ghost Riders will just use his j.:s: to get over it and send out an angled attack. I fought a guy who played both Nemesis and Ghost Rider for almost 30 matches, which gave me some good practice against the two of them. Against Nemesis, I found myself doing exactly what you suggested - not bothering with Henkyo Ki, and staying kinda midscreen, using :f:+:m: and :f:+:h: to poke at him, canceling attacks into Anki Hou for extra damage, and comboing when able.
I only mostly fought Nemesis out of the new characters, and I want to add that don’t fuck with Nemesis. Most of the time I’ve died from him so far comes from me not respecting him then eating an armored move. Also fought some Phoenix Wrights, and they’re pretty easy to handle if they focus too much on getting their evidences. Teleport dash past Maya all day.
I just fought against my buddy’s ghost rider. He is such a pain in the ass.Tried Anki Hou spam, failed since the chain or standing :h:goes full screen on the ground and kinda stuns me more than I could spam it. I guess the only thing I could try was to Super jump in and watch out for his S on the way down (his launcher is literally half the screen ) I just tagged out to Wesker and had gold armor Hsien Ko assist give me a chance to get on him.
Dash forward, it’s the only way! Actually for his standing rockets I just :d:+:h: and inched my way to him. As amazing as his launcher is, if he misses he gets combo’d. It’s just a Hulk fight,'cept Hulk has a rocket launcher and is a zombie.
No need to teleport dash, you can pendulum through it, Maya doesn’t go with you either, [I’m assuming] due to the inability of being able to pushblock pendulum. Obviously you should consider both options not just one or the other, but pendulum allows for some overhead shenanigans on wright when he is gathering evidence.
Did anki-hou H always hit high? because if it didn’t, now it does. Unless it’s an item that stuns those can be blocked low still. I could have swore that it didn’t hit high before because I remember trying in vanilla MvC3 and not being able to.
Anki Hou shenanigans are back! Well, mostly anyway. Items are still random (poo), and you said stuns still hit mid, which kind of defeats the purpose. But maybe we’ll be able to set up corner mixups now provided they don’t pushblock.
One note about Nemesis is that they’ll probably start Kara’ing their cr.:l:'s and cr.:h: (shoulder charge) into command grabs eventually. It was in a video on the front page yesterday, and I know I’ll be doing that. So yeah, watch out for that.
No idea. I don’t have the game yet, and no one’s uploaded a video. One would be silly (I wouldn’t be surprised), and the other would be epic. And I mean epic.
The sharp items of Anki Hou, when tossed with the :h: version have always hit high. This didn’t extend to flower pots and stars. Don’t know if the new items play by the same rules.
Anki Hou H has always hit High, I think. A timed one is very good against opponents coming out after a kill. If you do get a stun item you can IAD M for a quick surprise overhead. Must people block low because they don’t know about Anki Hou H properties or because they think you’ll go for the low anyways.
Well, I’ve been restricting myself from something important this whole time lol. For some reason I got the impression it didn’t (maybe because of the stun items). Now I feel silly.
Hmm. I thought a lot of the new items did nothing but damage, so they probably do hit high. Does the Servbot snowman freeze long enough for you to do anything with it if you’re close? It looks like the barrel has a pretty nice hitbox too.
Anki Hou is on a rotation that refreshes every 60 frames, I believe (demonstrated in Sixfortyfive’s video of the stun item infinite). I can’t find the original list of what items are thrown on what frames, but if there’s a specific slot(s) for normal items, maybe the chance for a bomb didn’t go down. Unless freeze items and whatever are crammed into that 60 frame timespace.
Please know as well that I wasn’t trying to come off as rude by any means, I just wanted to make sure you knew that there was another alternative just in case. Don’t want to randomly offend people lol.
Odd, because I was trying the anki hou unblockable setups when I first got MvC3 and it never worked… though it could have been that I was trying against the CPU and their stupid block shenanigans. well, that just means more goodness for me.
