New trick up our sleeves: The Hsien Ko changelog

Speaking of stagger effects, I wonder if it’s possible to extend combos with that. Something like ground series into Anki Hou, stagger effect, then a ground series again? If Hsien-Ko can add in a dash to get closer to extend the combo, that would be pretty big when she can’t connect a Cr. H or St. S after a magic series. Then again, it’s too random with the selection of items plus the bombs still being shit will make it too risky to use.

It’s really just the bombs that fuck the move up and make it impossible to use for potential combo extension. The risk of lobbing a bomb and eating shit is just too great. Were it not for that, the worst case scenario you’d have from using Anki-Hou during a magic series is that you’d roll a sharp item or bracelet that had no special effects. It really just boggles my mind that bombs work the way they do; that you’d allow a move to be completely invalidated by the presence of one(three) random item(s). Logically, I want to say that it’s unintentional, but Capcom has made no attempts to change how they work, so…

I was doing some experiements with an ABCf+C magic series ending in Anki-Hou with hopes to roll a dizzy item. I’d then hard tag in Felicia to command throw and continue the combo. Works well, similar to what Combofiend does with She-Hulk command grab hard tagging into Spencer, only problem is that the dizzy window on Anki-Hou dizzy items is shorter than She-Hulk’s and you can’t predict it, so you have to be ready to possibly hard tag immediately after each Anki-Hou toss.

I hadn’t thought of that. I was actually wondering what exactly you could do solo with a fullscreen/near fullscreen stagger or, more realistically, in a combo. But like you said, the random element is too much of a factor. She’s not Faust, Capcom. Her items aren’t powerful enough like his to center her gameplay around or sway the match. Ghost Rider and Hawkeye pull off what Capcom wants us to do with her much better anyway, though not together.

Also, Rocket Raccoon reminds me of the Sniper and the Soldier fused. His minigun hyper shall be referred to by me as Cry Some More! by me.

Maybe he’ll be the one to give Tasky the boot… Just need to see his assists. Haven’t watched Max’s (or is it Seth’s?) video yet. So busy today.

Really though, it’s just the bombs holding Anki-Hou back from being a potentially amazing move. Sure, it’s random, but with the addition of new items, you’ve got a great chance of producing either a stagger or dizzy effect which can be used to easily extend ground combos. If they changed bombs to explode on contact, you could get at least an untechable spin. Worst case is that you’d simply get a sharp item which would end a ground combo.

True. I just don’t know how Capcom doesn’t see that…

Nemesis/Ko/Rocky sounds more fun the more I think about it. Rocket Launcher slam for Nemesis, Pendulum for Lei Lei, plasma cannon thing or Log (kind of like a Pendulum that hits higher but only once and knocks back) for Raccoon. DHC’s sound alright, with Biohazard Assault (rockets with OTG capabilities + Goomba stomp) into TRH, and… Chireitou? into Rock n’ Roll (minigun). Maybe into Spring Trap might be better. TRH’s just a good DHC overall, and Gold Armor’s always there too, seeing as that’ what she’ll be doing most of the time. This could be fun.

Though it does have a weakness to beams, as far as I cans see.

the gameplay video of RR/FW featuring hsien ko almost made me want to cry.

i was more focused on her swinging around and not on the new characters and didnt see anything.

Well hey, Raccoon didn’t get the Pendulum of the rumors said he would!

Just trying to look on the bright side…

It’s a mid-screen pendulum he summons that causes a wall bounce. :-/

Which is arguably better, lol.

Oh, the log? I thought the leaks were referring to a Web Swing-type Pendulum. Yeah, I guess that’s a pendulum too. Looks like a good get-off-me assist.

Yeah, RocketRocketRocket Raccoon looks like he’s going to be a real pain in the ass to fight for Hsien-Ko… or anyone, really.

Even though Hsien’s gold Senpu Bu will probably be the only “broken” assist left from Vanilla (as Tron’s and Haggar’s are nerfed, as is Akuma’s even though I didn’t quite consider it broken exactly), I’m going to be trying out new characters… and I don’t think she’ll fit onto the Phoenix Wright team idea I have

And what happened to her being able to jump-cancel some of her normals! :frowning:

Disappointment after disappointment. What else is new?

Rocket Raccoon seems like he is going to be one of those “I can do anything but I’m Capcom-balanced by having low health.” If you look the first round of new videos posted, at 1:45 Ghost Rider performs Penance Stare on a full health Rocket Raccoon and it easily does 75% of his health. Keep in mind Penance Stare does like 450k.

Really going to just have to hold out hope for additional unmentioned changes to be discovered after the game releases. I’m not expecting anything major to come Hsien-Ko’s way, but here’s what I’m hoping for at this point:

  • Faster gong startup
  • Faster Cheiritou startup
  • Jump-cancelable command normals
  • Increased command grab range

Just about given up on the Pendulum-cancel change; dick move by Capcom. But if I can get an improvement to Cheiritou, it could actually become viable move in a game where air dashing is no longer safe. Really though, all I want for this move is to be able to perform it after Houten Geki, since you get terrible damage comboing Tenrai Ha from it since only a few of the balls actually connect. Faster gong startup would vastly improve her zoning game and make her tough to deal with against anyone who lacks a teleport.

All of the new cast members look to be threatening, but honestly, the character I’m worried about most in UMvC3 is shaping up to be Hulk. 3 hits of armor on s.H and armor on Gamma Charge…really?

Now, is it three hits as in “absorb 2 hits, then he’s vulnerable,” or “absorb three hits, then he’s vulnerable?” If it’s the former, spamming j.:h: more than usual might discourage Hulks from recklessly Gamma Charging. If it’s the latter, then I’m staying the fuck away from him. Pendulum comes out too slowly to cut through three hits by the time you do actually hit, I think.

Cancelable Pendulums, as beaten of a topic as it is, is still an odd exclusion, seeing as CapAm and Felicia got their old mechanics back. Who knows.

Right now it’s 1 hit of armor then he’s vulnerable, so I’m assuming it’s 2 hits. Still, the hits of j.:h: in my experience wouldn’t come out fast enough to rip through Hulk’s s.:h: before he becomes vulnerable without trading, and if you trade, he scores a ground bounce and you just nick him - he’ll recover fast enough to hit you with :s:. Staying away will be the only viable option against Hulk now, and even then it’ll be tough due to 1 hit of super armor on horizontal Gamma Charge now, and not to mention any assists he has backing him. I seriously don’t know what the fuck they are thinking; Hulk will literally be unstoppable now unless you’ve got a beam character keeping him at bay.

The only way Hsien-Ko will stand a chance against Hulk now is to activate Rimoukon, go in and hope to god the player is dumb enough to charge in.

Weeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllllllll she does have some other options, doesn’t she? Her projectiles are kind of unpredictable (on your end) but that doesn’t mean they’re useless; you could cover a decent amount of space while staying full screen and he might actually have trouble getting in, especially if you throw out some H gongs for air control, maybe periodically throwing out Chireitou as well. And if they’re jumping (not doing AA Gamma Charge with the H followup), her 6M and 6H are decent anti-airs. Otherwise, you could test your luck against those who like spamming standing H and his new S punch with Houten Geki or hell, even the regular throw since you actually have some combo options off of it. Ideally, if Hsien-Ko has some meter, she could back throw, put the not-so-jolly green giant in the corner and Tenrai-Ha loop the fuck out of him.

Right? Maybe not. Poor Hsien-Ko ;_;

Man, every time I look at this thread I get this bad feeling in the pit of my stomach and I feel like I have to watch Skullgirls or play BlazBlue to get over it.

damn

Yeah, that might work, but if she’s the last character left, then what Ranadiel said with Gold Armor and doing your best is pretty much all you can do. Bad Hulks might feel the need to randomly Gamma Charge through Gong waves for the pleasure of charging through Gong waves, I guess. If she’s not the only one left, I’m just going to get her out ASAP and tag in Nemesis or somesuch.

I personally watch some Japanese VSav vids saved in my YouTube favorites or go practice against the computer like a lonely man when MvC3 Lei Lei isn’t cutting it. I need to get GGPO running again…

And I’ve been avoiding the Skullgirls thread except for the Q&A lately until Painwheel gets revealed. The discussions have taken a turn for the weird at several points.

As opposed to Hsien-Ko who’s one of those “I can do nothing but I’m Capcom-balanced by having… well fuck.”

On the flipside, there’s Vanilla Wesker who defies the Pixie Health Rule entirely. Because he’s, you know, Wesker.

He’s still going to be an ass, though. Especially with the sunglasses mechanic (whoo!). Just hope Gong can come out fast enough so that it doesn’t get stuffed by the bullet.

Also, did anyone notice the infamous cat Lei Lei threw in the Rocket Raccoon trailer? It looks faster than her other items. I didn’t actually even notice it the first time I watched it.
