Hibiki has bad recovery on her main special move (the standing ground slash). Almost all characters can roll through and punish.

It hits in 8 frames, so it’s not even that fast. Plus it only has 4 hitting frames. That’s not very meaty at all. Opponents will pretty much never be rolling or walking into a whiffed one. In all fairness the jab version does hit in 6 (but still only has 4 hit frames).
Hibiki’s main combo doesn’t even knock down.
She also has terrible recovery on her main anti-air attacks, far s.HP and close s.HP. Those are -15 and -17(!) respectively. K-groove beats her up bad if those two moves get just defended. Her safest option is using her d.HP instead. But that hits at such and odd angle she’ll still get beat more often than not.
There’s nothing special about her ground normals. She has 3 frame c.LK just like everybody else. Her best offensive move might actually be close s.MK. It yields +6 on the hit/block.
Hibiki’s best groove is arguably A-groove. The only reason she’s good in that groove is because of her ability to combo a CC off a normal roundhouse throw. But guess what Capcom decided to do to her… 90% of the characters in the game have 52 pixel ranged normal throws. Hibiki’s throw range is only 44 pixels.
Her walking speed is super slow. Like Makoto’s from 3S. Nothing remarkable about her jump either.
Hibiki’s short stun bar makes her get dizzy in about 3 hits from Guile or Sagat.
The best thing Hibiki has going for her is her small size in my opinion. A lot harder to hit than most characters. Jumping roundhouse kick is also a powerful tool. An ambiguious crossup where a lot of times you can’t tell which side Hibiki will land on. All the other tricks, A-groove resets, etc… are all gimmicks. Things you can’t rely on as your main gameplan. How is Hibiki going to build meter as fast as say… Bison anyway?
I think A-Hibiki is far from top tier. Show me some new good stuff I can do with her and I’ll be glad to change my mind though.

The first is K GROOVE RAIDON he is the powerhouse and best palyer in the game to tell you honestly not many people used him before I picked him up guess why I started using him??? Iut is because I used double blankas cheat but I screwed up and I got raiden intead everytime haha yes but rainden is top tier even better than blanka because once he is raged you will eat level 3 super for sure once you jump you do FWOOOM BIG DAMAGE FLAMES SUPER and if they dont jump go do BLAM THROW SUPER!!! Haha and alos if you do a combo to them then you can finish with flames super and they are whole complete dead already ggpo and raiden also has great to anti-air move if you jump he does READY GO!!! And big shoulder charge to hit you! And if you roll he can do a big combo into a punches you will dizzy immediately and he is best poking game apart from sagat you cannot outpoke him he has range and all his moves quick and priority and then he cancancel into flames breath with no recovery! You are trapped and guard crush and death like hey babies and then you won the round already
Another great character top tier to use is C GROVE KEN because he has a great mixup once you get up he does dragonpunch and hit anything if you poke otherwise he will throw you haha this is deadly mixup with which I won a lots tournaments and he has best poking game in world apart from sakura because he can rolled cancel a kick it is total safe from roll and block and he does all day and he win!! There is no way to beat ken nothing they are lies by everyone and ken has best crossup in the game you dont know which way and if you guess wrong he make joystick BRAKBABAKBARBKABARKRAKBA HUGE COMBO haha you dizzied and eat a big combo and died
Also great player to use is P GROOVE KYOS he is a big combo guy and with a billion mixup if you get hit once then you say byebye to the whole match because u will be dizzied and die instantly so how can you play against someone who has like 100% combos instantly? TOP TIER
Great player is also A GROOVE HIBIKI but I dont know why I just copy Japanese players because they are best in the world and we listen to everything they say always correct no sorry I mean n groove hibiki because n grovoe is great now!! N GROOVE IS BEST GROOVE gurap
SAGAT is also great player because he has powerful crouch fierce punch you dont need to do anything exct to do a lot of crouch fierce and you punch him dead

I usually make it a point not to participate in the weekly tier thread, but I’ll point some stuff out here.
They can’t roll on reaction though, which means its still a useful move on the ground. Blanka’s low fierce and Cammy’s roundhouse are counterable with rolls also, and those are indisputably good moves.
You get the most range for those 8 frames of any non-super move in the game. Regardless of it being 8 frames, it still reaches half-screen faster than pretty much anything else. What other non-supers can punish a Blanka ball that hit you?. What other non-supers can punish a blocked Blanka super?
Her combo off of shorts doesn’t knock down, but give her a decent opening and she has a really damaging one that does. It also sets up tons of scary stuff too. And after the knockdown a single mix up (sometimes two) can get you dizzy. Besides, Blanka’s main combo doesn’t knock down either.
Low fierce is actually a really good anti-air against most of the top tier. Far fierce is indeed shitty if JDed, but close fierce can be cancelled on reaction into a dodge, a counter, or even a running slash to get out of there.
She has some of the best normals in the game. Sure, the numbers might not look all that special, but the range and priority certainly are. She can win tons of matches by only using standing/low strong on the ground; it’s fast, has great priority and range, and is also 90% safe to rolls and jumps. Nobody can crouch under standing strong, and it pre-emptively catches jumps much like Blanka’s low fierce. You can also buffer supers off of it outside of A-groove. She has one of the easiest whiff punishers in the game with her low fierce, and s.forward is a very underused poke: goes half screen and knocks down, also steps back so it’s relatively safe if whiffed. Her low short might have average speed, but it’s got higher priority and longer range than other chainable shorts. She can combo 4 low shorts on most characters.
A-groove is probably her best groove, but not just because of throw into CC. She has FAR more guaranteed CC situations than any other character. If you’re alert, you counter pretty much anything your opponent does with a free CC. She also fights very well without meter. The reduced range of her throws generally isn’t an issue, as her 2 basic throw mixups work really well and are pretty much totally 50/50. Reduced throw range just means you can’t go for walk up throws that much… which you won’t be doing anyway since she walks slow.
Her walking speed is indeed really slow. Her dash is good though, and run grooves pretty much negate her slow walking speed. Her jump itself isn’'t remarkable, but her jump-ins are among the best in the game. Jump roundhouse is difficult to uppercut and covers a very weak area in most top tier characters. Some characters can’t stop it at all. Jump strong is a very well rounded move; great at air to air and is a really good jump in at the right angle. Jump fierce is pretty much perfect air to air.
I dunno about Guile… but yes Sagat can dizzy her fast. Wait, Sagat can dizzy anybody quickly. -_-
Anyway, her stun bar is the same as Cammy’s… not really a big handicap. Especially since she’s strong defensively.
Hibiki is just a very well rounded character who has a lot of good matches with the top tier. She also fights the “top-tier killer” characters (Guile, Sak, Chun) really well. Her only really bad matches are Cammy and Vega… Bison I wouldn’t say beats her anymore. If anything, he has a very slight advantage.
And how does Bison build meter quickly anyway? Low forwards? Hibiki can do that just as easily, OR she can build it much faster with her much more viable attacking game.
IMO, A-Hibiki is definitely top tier. She’s also pretty indisputably top 4 out of all the A-Groove characters, and IMO she’s better than A-Blanka.
Qcf P is an important part of her game, but i wouldn’t say it’s her main special move. Of course it has bad BAD recovery, but if it’s blocked many of the characters cannot punish it and if you whiff it you definitely do something wrong anyway (generally spoken). If they can punish the MP version, simply don’t use it. I rarely use it outside of combos, it’s her main combo ender ESPECIALLY the HP version since it’s a knockdown.
True, but it’s still safe against many characters and doesn’t leave you at any disadvantage. It’s her main combo for a reason ;]
She has other (HIGH DAMAGE) knockdown combos she can implement into her game, e.g. >>
- (close) s.MP xx qcb HP xx qcf HP
- dp K xx qcf HP
- (close) s.HK xx qcb HP xx qcf HP
JD as an argument to NOT use s.HP ? Btw, if we talk about A-Hibiki only few people will choose K against you anyway if they’re smart. Far s.HP also has HELLA range, so it’s not really THAT easy to punish for every character. I like mixing it up with dash-back c.HP (try that) and j.HP (amazing ata). If Hibiki has meter you don’t jump on her anyway.

Her best normal imo is c.LP since you can combo into and out of it, it’s VERY safe with great range + if they block it you don’t have to fear anything, if you stick out another c.jab right after there’s what ? 1 frame gap ? The c.LK is nothing special but it gets the job done. Her MP’s are GREAT, so is her (c.)HP. Also her s.MK is a very VERY long reaching knockdown move, good substitution for her qcf P if you don’t overuse it since they normally can’t punish you on reaction like after the qcf MP. CLOSE s.HK !! Very good move, hits low, is bufferable and leads to knockdown. It also looks similar to dp K which hits high instead of low, leads to a knockdown both ways to start her okizeme game.
She also has great air normals (j.MP, j.HK, j.HP).
Throwing is not her only setup for CC activation. She can do >>
- 2 ground CC’s (crossup and frontal), both can be reseted in more than one way (s.HK xx dp K alone is one hell of a reset) and even mixed up
- anti air CC (even halfscreen, because you start with qcf + MP)
- CC off of counter
- CC off of HK throw
- CC after knockdown (okay this one is ghetto but it works surprisingly well, Yang style ^_^)
Those are not valuable arguments, especially not for Hibiki

Hibiki’s top tier imo because she is imo very fun and very very versitile. She can hang with almost everyone, i think her only real bad matchup is vega. I’m missing someone but i don’t know who.
Everyone is allways talking about K/P kyo. What about N-Kyo? Where’s the love for N-Kyo? IMO N-Kyo is better than K/P Kyo because he can avoid a CC if it connects.He also has rolls, which means roll cancels.
I still like K-Kyo better though.
P-Kyo is good becuz one parry into a combo = Your almost dead

I watched Otaku’s Hibiki get the crap kicked out of him by Guile doing sonic boom and standing roundhouse. I also watched Morikawa’s Hibiki get half a CC meter in the time it takes for Sakura and Bison to get a full one. Playing on my own, I also see near full life Hibiki getting killed by one Bison CC very often.
What I like the best though, is when I play Hibiki myself, do d.HP as anti-air, have it totally whiff, Sagat do counter hit j.HK, d.MK xx super, and 80% of my health magically disappear.
Every single one of the most commonly used top tiers can hit Hibiki back after she does the slash. Blanka, Cammy, Sagat, Bison even when they get HIT. Sagat can stop blocking in the MIDDLE of the combo to take the hits, get raged, punish for a lot of damage.
What do you Hibiki players do when you fight against Dhalsim? Don’t say that doesn’t matter because nobody uses him either… :lol:
I think K-Hibiki is actually the best Hibiki. Certainly not one of the best characters in the game though. short, short, level 1 is the best reason for Hibiki in N. Her only practical knockdown combo. People need to do that more I think too.
In a lot of match ups, Hibiki is forced to resorting to d.MP x N, jump back MP all day. Not very fun or worth my patience if you ask me. She would be a lot better if she had a faster walk. No need for Cammy or Vega fast. But something like shoto speed wouldn’t be bad at all.
It’s good to see some actual discussion going on here for once. I forgot to mention how good Hibiki’s dash is. Hibiki’s c.LK, c.LK, dash ranks among one of the best in the game. Do c.LK, c.LK, dash, throw or c.LK, c.LK, dash, d.HP (when the opponent jumps).
She gets up faster than most other characters in the game too for some reason. You have to do your meaty attacks earlier than usual when going against her. Wakeup c.LK, combo is actually pretty good.
How come nobody uses any of the variations of her level 3 rave super? Sure the long one does the most damage, but all of it can be blocked crouching. The variations have overheads and low attacks mixed into them. Makes CvS2 as annoying as those 3s scrub supers, where you have to memorize how block everything (hugo, Q, alex…). I’ll play Tekken if I ever start liking things like that.

maybe weird for some people BUT not far from the truth. 1 thing, you must at least put A-Bison in there and I think that Balrog with a roll is a lot better,(he use to be my best caracter in C-groove Back in the days lol But I dont think he is top) I also think that K-Kyo deserve is place with the P-Kyo + rolento and Vega are good in almost any groove ( I think japaness used Rolento a lot in every groove except A-groove - not like americains).
Well thats what is great about this game is everyone is entitled to there own opinion and its a fairly balanced game although I would have to disagree with your list.
