You do realize bold canceling is a key part of Dante’s gameplay. Without it, you’re playing a terrible character. Listen to Momo and switch to Vergil if you’re not going to bother learning something that takes a couple of hours to learn.
That being said, Devil Trigger has a ton of uses since it gives you an extra air dash and a triple jump. It’s also important when you’re creating a frame trap with Weasel Shot. Essentially, you want to Weasel Shot constantly since it’s +1million on block, and you can Stinger after Weasel Shot and Bold Cancel Stinger into Reverb Shock. If Stinger+Reverb Shock hits you can hit confirm into Devil Trigger and link St.M, St.H, Stinger for a full combo. That’s another use for it that wasn’t mentioned.
Also, if you’re fighting a Strider that has X-Factor or Orbs, you can Devil Trigger and spam Vortex in the air, if it hit’s you can confirm into a full combo.
We aren’t jerks, we’re legitimately trying to help you. Your gameplay will improve by a lot if you learned how to Bold Cancel. It’s like saying that you don’t want to use Buster with Zero because you don’t like holding a charge, so you’re looking for combos that don’t include it. It’s hubristic and ignorant.
AFAIK after Dante does the TAC hit just airdash and use hammer. It’s pretty simple. Also, you’re lashing out at people giving you honest advice. Playing Dante well means Bold cancelling. No BC= scrubby Dante play, and nobody wants that
yes, but** i know how to bold cancel! **idk why you guys are talking about it! i learned it back in vanilla. i knew momo’s comment was going to throw this whole thread off -_-
just so we’re clear, the guy who said i’m not helping myself for asking a question on a forum is the one who’s a jerk.
all i ask is that you stay on topic. it’s not hard, and it’s actually against the rules to derail a thread.
it makes you safe, does more chip than weasel shot, keeps you close to the opponent, dante still has setups after it’s blocked or if they use one advancing guard, AND i have a goldlike DHC with it in the corner, to boot!
anyone with a brain will pushblock you to the other side of the screen during fireworks, if you wanna stay in that ass it only makes sense to use DT or weasel shot since you recover faster and you can call an assist to cover either a stinger frame trap or a teleport left/right.
theres nothing more to DT than what we’ve told you, there no SECRET to using it. you use it to stay safe, chip people out with thunderbolts, zone, run away with vortex, regain life, get a bit of extra damage at the beginning of combos if you have meter to blow, for incoming mixups with million carats, etc. more people might help you if you didnt come off as a giant douche/scrub.
Non mentioned cool stuff:
TACing into dt dante nets you a lot of extra damage. mh thunderbolt double jump, mh thunderbolt double jump, mh thunderbolt doublejump, mh hammer.
DHCing into devil trigger is also sick. I use magneto on point, and if you go shockwave hyper to either push the opponent out, or just be random from full screen, you can dhc into DT and catch the teleport crossup. Even if they block, dante is officially in there. If I recall, morrigan has a similar super. Very tasty.
One of dantes “problems” is that million dollars takes three years to finish. This weakens his incoming mixups. It can sometimes be a better Idea to finish a character with million carats, DT cancel, jump s, volcano, beehive. Boom, no waiting around, put out the acid rain. Make sure you finish your plate, but theres no need to lose that mixup.
Alternately, after the million dollars, you can put out the acid rain, DT cancel, and then mixup. Best of both worlds but burns an extra bar.
That combo doesn’t work, you only get 3 special moves in the air, and 2 air jumps in DT, not 3. Unless you activate flight (though that doesn’t give you any more jumps). j.M, j.H, Hammer does work in a TAC, but the timing is stupid as hell, and you need to be in position for the Hammer to hit on the earliest frame possible. Might as well do j.S, same damage, harder to follow up out of the corner though.
And the TAC really does not do that much damage except really early in a combo, because Dante’s scaling is fuck-awful. But if it’s early in a combo, you shouldn’t be using multi-hitting moves like Thunderbolt or Vortex anyway.
Sent from my piece of shit, barely functional iPod touch using Tapatalk
i was toying around with morrigan’s shadow servant (that’s the hyper that’s like magneto’s) and i can DHC into DT then use grapple for a little combo. it only works at certain distances, though.
yeah, i know all about million dollars taking forever to finish. sometimes i use the hyper and the opponent dies on the first hit of it! i mean, it’s worth it, but that doesn’t give enough time to acid rain the incoming character. i just use revolver in that instance.
I rarely THC, its just shit you can do in Devil Trigger.
As far as dhcing out of tempest into DT, its really damn good. Two bars and a near dead point magneto? Its an amazing dhc out. Shockwave causes hard knock down, so if it catches you can actually otg into some great damage. As far as meter management, I’m playing Magneto/Dante/Doom. Getting Meter isn’t really a problem.
is there anything else you can do after million carats>devil trigger? the only thing i know to do is jump s, volcano, beehive, like you said, but that only adds around 50,000 to the combo. what if they survive that?
I do cold shower xx stinger, bold cancel teleport, j.S, call Wesker samurai edge, hammer, volcano xx beehive xx { } million dollars (if I haven’t wasted my ground bounce yet) insert into the brackets : jetstream xx fireworks xx million dollars.
but I guess you won’t be doing that since you thing that bc’ing is “just not an effective way of comboing online.”
it’s possible online dude if you have a good connection. but yea i guess you can try it out in training mode or something if you want.
Bold canceling online feels mighty different because you have to slow it down, but it’s definitely worth it. Don’t pay attention to the above posts. This is the first but not the only thread where momo tried to start trouble, and I already talked to a mod about it.
I’ve figured out I can do hammer, million carats, devil trigger, jump, thunderbolt x3. This can be done at the end of a combo or even after a TAC! I can even call morrigan’s meter assist or dr. Strange’s bolts assist if I want.
yea i do that thunderbolts x3 too also if I don’t have any meter. It’s so powerful! chip is sooo good too lol
IDK if you watch this guy on Youtube called Xuses, but he’s a really good trench coat mafia player from the UK. He made this combo video called “Sons of Sparda” and it’s basically a montage of Vergil and Dante just going HAM. He does this one combo where he uses Dante’s triple jump in DT. It was really dynamic and had a lot of swag.
here’s the video right here.
might give you some more ideas of effectively using DT. the combo i was talkking about is at about the 2:33 mark.
and yea bc’ing online is really hard. I’ve only done it once online, but i can get it out like 35-40% now in training mode
