New tier list

poor dudley i just started maining him too

Lol bad choice?

A friend of mine has been showing me that Dudley’s wake up game is pretty obsolete. Focus xx backdash pretty much laughs at Dudley’s high/low mix-up game. This means that Dudley has to choose between duck > straight, or blocking because you don’t want to eat a shoryuken, which also adds in the possibility of Akuma throwing. It’s so fucked up how I’m getting punished for making my opponent play Dudley’s game. Duck > upper needs to cause a knock down…

I love Dudley’s ability to hit like a mac-truck, I love his ability to form juggle combos, I love the concept of a high/low mix-up. I do not like how the 4 engine makes Dudley’s game less effective… ho-hum.

I’d be happy if Dudley’s inability to poke were not also crippled by his incredibly slow c.mk or c.hk, but that’s getting off topic. Dudley is better than the tier-list says, but we all knew that.

I’m personally surprised that he is not lower on the list. He is still basically the only character I play, but he really is terrible in this game.

Take out the invincibility and the airborne property of backdashes please! Lol

And honestly, the best option on wakeup for any character is blocking. Characters with “good” wakeup options still get blown up by Akuma, Rufus, Cammy, Abel, and so on. Seriously, blocking is the best option 9 out of 10 times.

dud is mid tier for sure. He got decent AA, gldk s.hp and good punishing combos but like someone said his blockstrings aren’t as safe as they should be and his high/low can be made obselete with stupid backdash. His footsies are so horrendeous that you can’t say that dudley is a solid character. At least now when I beat ppl I know I did inspite of dudley being sort of sucky, which is good. Didn’t we all like beating sagats in vanilla?

Blanka Dudley is 5:5. You probably try to Anti Air blankas with normals.
Cody vs Dudley should indeed be 5-5
Adon’s +6 wake up and a 4(?) frame DP? you tell me
Dudley vs T.Hawk is either 5:5 or in Dudley’s favor imo

He’ll only be like this until the arcade version come out.

This^^^
Makoto has a better time getting in Versus Sim than Dudley.

But yes Dudley is a 164ish character, no more no less.
He’ll go up a ton in the arcade though. He’ll probably score like 9 points across the board making him top middle or high tier.
Doesnt really matter to me though I’ve always been a one character guy in competitive fighters, and a tier placing never stopped me before lol.

People should start subscribing to this ideology. Make the character work for you

No, I was saying Dud vs Blanka was in Duds favor.

The more I play this game, the more I realize Dudley’s flaws…and he has a lot. You have to work a lot harder to win with him, as compared to some of the other characters who are supposedly “even” with him. Dudley plays best up close but doesn’t have a solid way of getting in. Ducking can only get you so far. I’ve never been the type to care about tier lists but I will admit, I’m not at all surprised at his placing. I don’t see it getting much better in the future either. If anything, he may move up a slot or two.

Personally, I like him where he is. He’s fun to play and requires thought and planning to play effectively. A lot of people can’t wrap their minds around the fact that he can’t be used like a Shoto, despite being a character with a “Dragon Punch”. But it is a bit embarrassing that he has Jet Uppercut and can’t really use it.

Sure, he needs to be improved a bit but no matter what Capcom does, Dudley will never be “top tier”.

That only works mid stage and cr.lk xx st. mk xx lp. mgb beats it. So does throw. And probably the f.mk XX ultra OS.

There sure is a lot of crying in this thread.

How is Dudley - Thawk 5-5?

yeah agreed, btw…just finished beating GeoM DC Hustle in a random rank match he joined. Tough fucking Balrog I will say…-_-

Focus backdash doesnt trigger OS’s, it’s a broken part of the engine imo and against chun rose you cant do other than throw to prevent it (unless they are abusing it THAT much you could jump or mgb but they wont do it)

Dudley will never be more than mid tier because you need luck to win, same that happens to other characters. Not that it bothers me a lot, but the character is just based in random and guessing.

lol @ eventhubs tierlist. C’mon liquid we all know this tier list doesn’t mean crap.

While I totally agree that Eventhubs deserves all kinds of disrepect regarding the competency of people who post there (El Fuerte is so cheap!!!), you gotta realize the list isn’t from Eventhubs but from the Japanese Super Street Fighter 4 Wiki.

We all knew (or should’ve known) what we were getting into when we picked up Dudley. All that pre-release hype “OMG Dudley new Sagat” should’ve been known to be bogus if you played 3rd Strike, he has the same weaknesses and then some.

Dudley’s not popular, there isn’t much data to look at for him. Not surprised there’s debate on the matchups vs other not popular characters.

AE Dudley changes won’t skyrocket him to the top. EX Duck, faster cr HK, techable knockdown on jump HK? Nerfs to everyone else will have more effect on Dudley than those 3 changes we know.

But we all know that the japanese tier list will always be different then the one here. 3S had Dudley 3rd best character in the game in Japan while here he was like 6th or 7th. I dunno why Eventhubs bothers posting the Japanese tierlist when it doesn’t mean anything to us is what i meant to say. also as been stated before, are there even enough Dudz in japan to accurately represent this?

THe majority of Dudley players i’ve seen, even at tournaments have not impressed me, not that im trying to be elitest or anything, but i feel that alot of people are play dudley incorrectly. Yes Dudley is a rushdown character, but every dudley i have ever seen play has been reckless and banking on guessing right with their oki.

Truth is, you need to play dudley very patiently and wait for that golden opportunity to really fuck up your opponent and you need to train you’re opponent to play how you want them to play, even if it inovlves eating a couple wake up shoryukens, because the next time they do, they’re gonna be in for a world of hurt. All im saying is, if the Dudley matchup is being based only on players opinions in tournaments, i feel dudley is being misrepresented. I mean here, the only two well-known dudley’s that i know off (besides present company of course =) ) are Liquid and Marn. Thats two dudley players, and thats it.

Why did Eventhubs do it? People there ride Japan’s jock like it’s no one’s business so of course they would. Also, it is interesting to see the differences. Also, I think you can play Dudley either way to be honest, and I definitely play extremely risky. It is very hard to be very patient and you can get beat by people who are just really solid if you keep waiting for mistakes. Finally, who the hell put Dudley 3rd for 3s? I don’t care what country you’re from, that is wrong (IMO LAWLZ).

Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike - Shoryuken Wiki

my bad, it was 4th, but still

If you really look at the Tier list, it is actually very misleading. Honda is top tier only because he seems to destroy the bottom tier characters 7-3. But, overall, he is like 4-6 or 5-5 against the mid-tier and up. If you take out all the super characters, Honda is right back on the bottom again because he basically did not change from vanilla to super.

Dudley’s spot does seem misleading as well. He has so many tools to work around fireballs, yet he doesn’t match well with fireball characters. Kinda weird.
