New Tennessee Thread: You All Everybody

Oh I know, I’ve just been wanting an excuse to rant about how awesome it is to grab someone by the face and blow it up, and you opened the door for me. Much obliged.

I’ll just throw in my 2 cents (Probably worth less than that) on seeding. If I didn’t play anyone I play all the time in casuals from my area in a tournament within the lower 66% of the bracket the seeding is fine. If you’re from another area and your name isn’t Justincombofiendmikerossmarnwong you’re just another random player to be seeded in.

I know people want to place what they think they deserve but honestly if you’re there to take the tournament and you lose I don’t see how you can complain about anything other than your own performance. Some people are gonna get easy brackets to start and some people are gonna be screwed at the beginning but it all evens out in losers or later in winners, especially with larger brackets.

I had to play Mike Weng in the very first fight at Cinderslam who came in 2nd next to jakob and yeah it sucked, but I still ended up climbing to the top 6 and probably deserved that spot in that particular tournament.

As far as being left out, yeah that sucks!

Im having trouble adjusting to KOF too. getting blown up online is not very fun. I currently run Elisabeth/Mai, Shen and Kula. I spend a lot of time in training mode and can do combos with ease but when i get online it’s a whole nother story. Should i just grind it out getting my butt kicked and play online? I really like KOF 13 since it’s very different from SF and a break from SF from time to time is needed.

GGs to Joker in KoF. Leona is crazy as hell.

Appreciate the tips Mike. Yeah really the only thing I am struggling with is that third to round out the squad. I don’t like character hopping myself and discourage other players from doing it, especially when learning a new game. Jason suggested those two as they have good footsies and normals that I can stick out so that I can get a better feel of the poke/footsie game. Also so I don’t feel scared to stick moves out. Now that you mention it though, Kula has mad footsies and good buttons too. That st. b being the main culprit. I think I will take your advice my d00d.

I’m so glad Pat is gonna make it Saturday. It’s been too long. Should have a decent turnout. Let’s get crunk after the tourney yo.

Stacked brackets can make all the good players eliminate each other early sans the “best” player at the tournament. This happens at every tournament, brackets are always a bit weird because they don’t always show the best players unless there is a little bit of seeding…

Prime example:
Josh played Q in a SF tourney, barely lost to him, got stuck playing Chris Brown in loser’s bracket, went 0-2. Josh was probably the 5th or 6th best person there, but got a stacked bracket…

I’ve seen Richard and Sara get 3rd place in some of our tourneys, and go 0-2…all depends on brackets…I just know that in terms of locals I don’t really need to seed players, but with out of towners at tourneys I always separate everyone as best as possible…

Does it now? I haven’t played 2012 yet so I haven’t tested it out. The way it was worded made it seem like empty flip into blockstring would be a viable mixup instead of being the most punishable thing ever.

Either way Guy seems like a lot better of a character.

GGs Chris.

I suck at combos and such, still trying to figure out the game. That was the first time I played since a few weeks back…I’m in the same boat with you trying to figure out a third but I might as well just rock Leona since I understand what she’s suppose to be doing. You had that one nasty combo string into Terry’s DM which was nice so pride yourself on being able to pull that off.

Astaroth, I didn’t know people seeded tourneys by skill without a points system until people started complaining about it. Now I know what people think about me up there I guess based on how my first matches have gone. I believe in complete random, seeded by region so you get to play different people, and that’s how it will be at any of our tourneys. I am not going to make a judgement on people’s skill, especially from other regions.

Isaac isn’t as god tier in UMVC3 as he was in MVC3 (at least not yet). Trust me, he used to sit on my couch at my house and rack up a 50+ win streak because no one could touch him. Now I only have ever seen maybe 10-15 as a streak from him here when I’ve dropped downstairs to check out what the score at the “Raekwon Station” is.

Also, we have a lot of people down here that purposely underplay in casuals, FYI.

I know the tournament wasn’t perfect, but that’s life. People make mistakes, and that’s how people learn and improve in general. Overall most people still really enjoyed it, plan to make it to the next one, and understand we have things to iron out as it’s only the 2nd tourney this group has run.

The HSV “leaders” are meeting soon to discuss the mistakes, review the comments, and move forward with a better organized plan for the next one.

And as far as HDR goes: It was run as a random tourney, HDR as HDR, $5 entry, people could refuse to enter if they didn’t want to play. I honestly didn’t expect many if any to sign-up, but I told people it would be there for shits and giggles at least. I wanted to have arcade ST there, but I’ve had no time to get and test thoroughly a SuperGun setup, wire sticks, encase the PS2 -> SuperGun adapters, etc. I would even offer a Deadliest Warrior, MK Trilogy, ClayFighter, or <other crap game> tourney for $5, and if people signed up, run it. People don’t have to sign up.
I don’t think anyone prefers HDR over real ST. I’ve never heard it.

And that’s it as far as that RCR tourney goes from me. It’s in the past, lessons to learn, and move on to better things.

Looking forward to seeing you guys on Saturday and giving you my money most likely. I have Richard’s SFAC stick gutted and should have it wired up tomorrow and tested. Chris, I have your JLF in a bag already. Also, I’ll be remembering to bring up the MB:AA character move sheet that was not taken out of the blue OK Baby and returning that.

Simple! Just accuse the people who placed better of cheating!

That’s the thing though. Out my three matches, I only played one new opponent. Marcus and Raekwon have played me in a ton of matches.

This actually confuses me a lot. Wesker and Trish are awesome, so picking up Vergil must’ve really slowed him down. I have noticed it though.

Yeah, Marcus did, and I noticed. The others though used the same teams and strats thoughout.

Few critiques.

[]Try to get a megaphone. Wandles was running around everywhere.
[
]Bracket runners should try not to play in the brackets. It slows things down, among other reasons.
[]Personally, I thought too many games were happening at once. KoF, Marvel, AE, and 3S were all run simultaneously.

Things I liked.

[
]The venue. Numerous people said the old one was much smaller.
[]Raffles. Raffles are always fun.
[
]Free entry incentives for out-of-towners. I thought that was a great idea to draw more numbers in.
[*]The boss-ass executive chair. LOL

*Just literally popped in AE2012 for 10min" …Yep, my characters are still good to go. Back to KOF…

Hmm… I’ve heard this story before.

it was a whole tournament of killers though.
in no particular order list of people that I know should be seeded under the category of "very good chance to win the whole tournament"
Raekwon, 334 Pauliwood, FR Toomuchdamage, FR Dickslicer, Orpheus, GGC Ice, GGC Seph, Empy, Somebrwnkid, Raccoon, Solidplay, Wandles, 645

all of these people are really fucking solid and have top 8’d several times at various events in this region.
thats like half the tournament, let alone whoever you think should’ve been seeded. the tournament was full of killers. And maybe you and your crew are killers too, I just didn’t list them because I don’t know them.

Who you played in casuals has little to do with skill seeding or location seeding.

Isaac is Raekwon, Jacob is Orpheus.

All concepts already being addressed just from quick internal review right after everyone left. Thanks for also seeing the same things, so at least people are getting on the same page.

I’ll see what players I can gather up for Saturday. Some people are out of town until mid-January, have holiday plans, etc.

I played Marcus a lot last month at a TN gathering (including in brackets iirc). Raekwon and I have played on several occassions. I would never ask to seed by casuals. I was just stating that it wasn’t really new players I got to experience, even though that’s the goal. Just bad luck on that part.

Finals will do that to you. Mixed them up just then. Sarah even said “Raekwon” in the post. lol

Isaac (Raekwon) was running his Sentinel/Deadpool/Haggar team still, right? He comes up from B’Ham and trains with us at my house. He’s got a bad knee, so we always just set up a station in front of the couch and people go play him specifically. Jacob (BDP Orpheus) used to play Dante/Wesker/Trish and has swapped out Dante for Vergil if memory serves me correct.

And as Anotak said, that Marvel bracket was way stacked. Any of the GA people could have taken it. Easily 12 different people from AL, so that’s 21 people right there.

@FlyMike:

Would you believe that I saw that very same video and somehow failed immediately to notice that Mr. karate actually had his foot flat on the ground like a normal person? Of course now that you point it out its so obvious.

Ggs to O and the doc for my very first games of xiii. Ill be picking it up for sure. I do hope that network patch comes out soonest.

I didn’t mess up though. I have it correct. I know my 7’ tall giant black men.

Again, mixed them up because I’m exhausted. I know who is who and what teams they use. Besides not having the DHC glitch, Raekwon was still very solid. He might still be adjusting to Haggar’s feet being vulnerable in the assist.
