‘Street Fighter’ packs Hyde Park punch
Duo team to bring vidgame to bigscreen

An early film version of ‘Street Fighter’ was released in 1994.

Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment and Capcom Ltd. are getting in the ring for a film version of popular vidgame franchise "Street Fighter."
Scribe Justin Marks has been tapped to adapt.

Hyde Park and Capcom – Japanese publisher of “Street Fighter” – will produce the film in a joint venture.

Pic will focus on the game’s most popular female fighter, Chun Li, but the exact storyline is being kept under wraps.

In 1994, Universal released a “Street Fighter” movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme that featured most of the characters from the game.

Hyde Park and Capcom’s film is targeted to bow in 2008, the 20th anniversary of the game franchise.

The Street Fighter series helped ignite the arena fighting genre that’s still popular in the vidgame world.

When it first debuted, it generated heated controversy over the graphic depictions of violence.

Though it has been less popular in recent years as the number of competitors has increased, “Street Fighter” games have sold over 25 million console games and 500,000 arcade units, generating more than a billion dollars in revenue.

Marks just completed writing “Voltran” for producer Mark Gordon.

He is repped by William Morris Agency.

Hyde Park will be selling the project at the American Film Market, which unspools this week in Santa Monica.

Strange… I don’t have too much faith in live action video game movies (Silent Hill was REALLY good though) but Chun-Li is the character I use the most even though Ryu is my favorite SF character with Chun-Li being second. I’ll try to remain optimistic right now and hopefully they won’t crush my hopes with her being a reporter or some crap…

And gosh darn it they need to get Kelly Hu on the phone…

I do so hope they open some sort of venue where they can speak to fans and get their thoughts on it, like John Favreau did with the upcoming Iron Man movie.

I suppose my hopes for this movie to be based on SF3 Third Strike and her fight against Urien to get her adopted kid back ain’t gonna happen and she’ll just be fighting Shadowloo… AGAIN… well I just want SOMETHING based on SF3 besides the Ryu Final manga and those craptacular SF3 Hong Kong comics…

they should probably just forget that this movie was ever done before and just retell the story from alpha… then go SF2 then 3s

Gosh, I hope it’s as great as an adaptation as Silent Hill was, I really enjoyed Silent Hill throughly and I hope to enjoy this one also. Chun Li in her own storyline, wow. If it’s another DOA:-Esque movie (AKA Charlie’s Angels) It’ll be a box office bomb, but if it’s something that’s seriously apart of the game, like Chun Li’s past childhood and pre-SF2, that’d be cool.

i’ve been burned by streetfighter stuff in the past with capcom’s love for the quick cash in but if there was ever a game that could be turned into a decent live action film it would have to be street fighter

not sure about the choice for chun li as the main character it sounds like a guile scale fuck up and an excuse to just make a film focusing for 90 minutes on an oriental girl in a skimpy outfit (didn’t hollywood learn anything from dead or alive the movie?)

this film could be a good thing but theres only on tale they can tell and its got to be ryu it encompasses virtually all of the characters and not only is there many anaction packed fight with other charachters but internal turmoil aswell

and what the fuck is this shit about realism thats what fucked up the first streetfighter live action movie hell if i wanted realism i’d play virtua fighter or better still take up karate i play streetfighter for the over the top action and psychadellic moves (yes i used to play alpha 3 when i was very very stoned) we have the technology now to pull of everything from a streetfighter game perfectly through cgi green screen and wire work just look at how amazing casshern was as a film

i wait in hope they’ll probably fuck it up but i got my fingers crossed that they get some full blown streetfighter fanatics making this film because thats the way they are gonna get it looking good

if anyone from capcom is reading this i’m willing to help out i have a history in film and fight correography (mainly swords and archery but i know enough about streetfighter to apply my knowledge)
